Unfortunately being overly concerned with one's self image can result in public voting.

And likewise being overly concerned with the perceived images of others rather than the poetry itself results in skewed public votes.

Yup  Yup  Yup

it's a Samurai's sword -- the pt of views

(btw, am too old to care too much of what others think of my character -- my ink?  that is another tale )

Right with ya, buddy!  As for the ink - it will connect with whom it's meant.

Once upon a time there was this wild notion that comps were a fun thing that may just inspire somebody to write something they wouldn’t have written otherwise.

And that was the important bit.

The End.

i find comps still fun
but i wanted to address the voting backlog
because when i am asked to vote via PM because old comps are over but not enough votes
a wee problem might exist in the system

I was just offering a suggestion

Exactly, Tallen.  When the system isn't working it's time for change.  <3

competitions are only fun when they are run on a fair basis, so many are not. There are competitions run that exclude certain people it's all a bit childish. I mean would you enter a competition if you knew from personal issues, you would not be allowed to win no matter how good your entry was. I like fairness in my competitions and will always rely now on public voting. Anyone who enters my competitions could win, no exclusions. The same cannot be said for some others. That takes the fun out of certain comps.

Openness and transparency is preferable. Anonymity, in general, is a shield people use to hide behind and throw rocks. I really wish this site had a section to name and shame bullies, for instance, they appear in the main to manage to get off scot-free, that affects my gag reflex

I will feel inspired to vote! Anonymously, of course!

You comment reminds me of a Newspaper in Arizona where every Monday there's a section where they print who rec'd a DUI over the weekend.  the list is a lot longer after a Holiday weekend

They print the  name, where they are from (many are from other states) and their age (the oldest i saw was 94 and the youngest was 14)
