The Renku/Renga is a chain poem

the first author writes a stanza of three lines
5 syllables
7 syllables
5 syllables

The Second Author writes a couplet of 2 lines
7 syllables
7 syllables

and the style keeps alternating, each author writes either a 17 syllable stanza or 14 syllable couplet depending on the order

some renku are about seasons, others are about people, some are serious, others are, not

not to be confused with:
Rensaku (what I have been calling haiku epics since 1992 or there abouts) which is a chain of haiku by the same author

Tanka (a single author writes a haiku stanza and an accompanying couplet)

Tanka Epic (real name unknown) where it is a string of tanka by the same author

I still linger in
My thoughts more than my actions
Hungered but not fed

Boundless, Bounded by errors
