Gotta say : saw Joe Satriani at Santa Cruz Boardwalk ,
when I lived there in 1980's and 90's , then the Civic
Auditorium , so many times...it grew old...;)
He was okay...but what has come a looonnnggg way ,
is his price...I remember it eas free , or ten dollars at
the most I ever paid...
Most people here would not believe , I stopped going
to any shows , after the price went over $17.50 , and
that included three , or four band shows for the price...
After that , I got in free , or said fuck it , climbed a roof ,
and recorded it through the air vents , or windows...lol !
Saw so many bands , free , Golden Gate Park , or other
Bay Area venues...Ah , the Sixties , and Seventies !
Life was great , prices were real...if we paid...
And Joe ?
Yeah , he was ok...yet he has come far...hat off to him !

Far cry from his stint with The Greg Kihn Band Lol
Yeah man, even my days of the early 80's
it was similar for me getting into shows for free
Prices I would never pay
Satch as much as I love him, is a rather dull guy live, but stick him in the studio and he makes magic.

Yeah that cats pretty great!!!
So many have come out of the old woodshed that play in that style.
My introduction to it and influence was Michael Hedges...after he caught on through the ol grapevine, You had many guys like this cropping up and taking it to the next level, which was a high benchmark to begin with.
I spent a lot of yrs adapting that style into my own, then these crazy extremists come along and makes one want to give up lol

Oooh, yes, Michael Hedges was what I consider to be the innovator of this New Age style of guitar. He will always be the greatest in my eyes, as far as that style goes... a wonderful soul, and a talented musician.
I am a big fan of Andy Mckee, Erik Mongrain, Don Ross, John Butler...
of Hedges, I really like the albums Oracle and Breakfast in the Field, but man, he has so much great music
Here is one I am stuck on currently:

Saw Michael in Santa Cruz , many years ago , then used to sit ,
and talk with him about ancient code and the human brain ,
and how music interacted with that , on a deck of a coffee
shop in Mendocino , Ca. , in early 1995 to days before he died ,
on one of the crazy roads going up to Mendo from San Francisco...
He was a wonderful *human* being...we had great times together !
Miss him...
