CARD OF THE WEEK
I would like to do a card of the week section here.
Its been a super full moon in Capricorn which is a time to evaluate things. In the synodic astrology the Venus cycle
is still going on and this will last for 19 months. This moon is also known as full buck moon referring to the time when the antlers of the male deer are fully grown.
You can say it is a symbolic time for a full blooming connection but in this period it can mean you will evaluate questions concerning career, long term future plans, your soul aspiration will mirror and you may be trying to brighten or adjust the images, ideas, plans but also the areas of relationships because Pluto is also in Capricorn.
It might be a time of being in the half light or in the half dark about things, people, you might even also be faced with rejection though rejection is also the equivalent of opportunities knocking on your door. You might struggle with a certain balance. But all these things are simply mirroring shards and even if you are in the half dark, know that the half light is still there because together they make a circle.
The influence of Pluto can mean some deeper soul evaluations, some voyages into the dark soul waters. The spiritual nether worlds that hold space for a symbolic space of rebirth. Hel shows you that the shackles to which you have clung on to are merely past voids and that there will be new opportunities. Hel is both an other worldly location and a female Norse Goddess who shows us that there are lessons in the depths of life and especially of endings and two faced sides of a story or sometimes of people. Know that these times are just a way for new balanced periods to come. Trust and what is most important trust your own inner voices, they will know!
the card is from the Goddesses , Gods and Guardians Oracle card deck by Sophie Bashford and Hilary Wilson who made the art for the cards

Hello Carpe Noctem,
Thank you for joining in! I checked the book and it seems very nice. I always love to look at images and illustrations of botanical and herbal nature. I can not draw these myself but find it very enriching, do you work with herbs yourself or use them?

YIPPPEEEEEH WOOOHAAH got my new cards last two days ago. I am so happy and exited to study them. The first SAMI based card deck !
I drew a few cards and could tell right away this deck is very powerful in giving guidance. I felt replenished after drawing the cards and emailed Astrid. She replied almost right away and I could also tell this lady wordlessly understood what I had told her.
The images are very very basic, no glamorous bright art but the back of the cards is stunning. I can already tell it will be very rewarding to work with these cards. A welcome deck after having used a few very intensely colored decks
info on the deck
The first ever Oracle Deck using Saami (or Sami) images and spiritual principles has been created by a Sami Shaman or Noaidi named Astrid Ingebjørg Swart who is based out of Oslo, Norway. She established her practice over eight years ago and teaches Astrology, Natural Healing, Shamanism, Reflexology and much more--she also teaches internationally.
Astrid Ingebjørg Swart
For those of you that don't know, the Sami or Saami people are the indigenous people of Scandinavia, and they live in the far northern parts of Scandinavia and the Kola Peninsula of Russia, mostly above the Arctic Circle. The land, spanning four countries that used to have no borders was called Lapland and the people, Laplanders, but this term is no longer used as it is considered derogatory. They are the reindeer herders of the North and many still make their living this way. They are also known for their love of yoiking or joiking, a form of ceremonial singing and chanting. Since many of the Sami are a nomadic people even to this day, singing was the only art form that could travel with them. They are also called the people of the Sun and the Wind. The ceremonial drum, the four directions and the eight seasons are sacred. The Sun is their main deity. This is a culture that is steeped in shamanistic traditions
The guidebook for this deck has just been translated into English and I was sent a copy of this deck to review and have been using it for the past week. The images on the cards were painted by Margit Berg from Germany who illustrates books and has an interest in Sami culture and has studied shamanism under another noaidi. Her images are beautiful and the ancient drawings or pictographs that were used on the old ceremonial drums are what is depicted for the Gods & Goddesses in this deck.
The deck has 48 cards with images and is divided into what I would call suits or themes: the Sami Gods & Goddesses, Sami Culture, Nature, Animals, and Heaven & Earth--ten cards in each suit except the Heaven & Earth which has eight cards. There are instructions for four different types of spreads in the guidebook: using one card, three cards, seven cards and eight cards. I have also shuffled both my Rider Waite and the Pathfinder decks together and done readings that way and done different spreads and used the deck to enhance the Tarot spread or Oracle spread that I am already doing for a more in depth perspective.
The Pathfinder cards are the same size as my standard Rider Waite and printed on a medium card stock and very easy to shuffle. The back is not a reversible image, but a beautiful one; a photograph of a lake with a gravel beach, a green landscape with trees behind it, a boat and the purple and green Northern Lights in the sky with Astrid's logo at the top.
Astrid Ingebjørg Swart is a NOADI ,/female Shaman, from a lineage of shamans who grew up in Finmark, Thats north Norway. North Norway is VERY VERY different from the rest, less people live there, the mountains are still considered holy there. And they HONOR the land more.

They look beautiful. Care to share a few choice images? 😄

the mothergoddess

Gorgeous. I love it when cards embrace their true selves. Sometimes they need to tell their own story.
I recently bought a small independent artist deck called the red thread which is speaking to me at the moment. It really feels like a well thought out piece of art as a whole.

YES I can agree with you, I have worked with some very colorful ones but I think I prefer the plainer images. Its more powerful less distracting. i have not heard about the red thread, what kind of card deck is this would you care to tell a bit more about it?

So, yeah I have a real passion for supporting independent artists, and I back Kickstarter campaigns and things like that for unique art decks that just speak to me.
But The Red Thread deck by Wychwood Oracle was something I found on Etsy by an independent artist.
I’ve always seen lineage as a red thread that connects us all — it’s our ancestors. Our bloodline. Stretching back generations. So to see that on the cards and how that red thread runs throughout and connects the whole deck I think is rather unique. It also carries through that feeling of connection. It was one of those things I bought just because it spoke to me.
It’s a small deck, and comes in nothing but a simple red hessian bag, but one of my more interesting finds of late.
(Sorry the DU greatly reduces the picture quality. That’s annoying. )

This is The Witches Oracle by the same artist. I’m a fan of the stripped back, clean imagery. It feels very olde England. 😄
