The singularity idea makes an assumption that doesn’t make sense to me. It makes the assumption that machines will be able to improve on themselves constantly, and at an accelerating rate. That is contrary to every other optimisation process where it gets harder and harder and therefore takes longer and longer. Case in point, improvements to computer hardware performance are slowing, even though the latest computers are being used to help create the next generation.
