I’ve always been attracted to this odd little number from Elliott Smith, perhaps because I discovered it at a time when I was obsessed with self-destructive young artists:

This particular verse is one I tend to recall:

“My uncle worked in a plutonium mine
His job was to set up the dynamite
And he got too close to a charge underground
And all of his feelings went numb
And that must be where I get it from“

Hoi hoi
Light verse is my vice.

I wrote, and posted on DUP

You can be so convincing
You’ve got me by the balls
You squeeze - I promise quickly
I’ll be yours till Niagara Falls

Light verse includes a serious amount of self mockery. And I like that.

The Kursaal Flyers (band name) had quite some light verse included in their music.
Pocket money of course and Little does she know.

The lyrics:

Little does she know that I know that she knows
That I know she's two-timin' me
Little does she know that I know that she knows
That I know she's cheatin' on me
I was outside the one-stop
When I saw her in the coin-op
And I didn't like what I see
Little does she know that I know that she knows
That I know she's two-timin' me
She was sharing her spin dryer with a guy in a tie-dye
When she saw my reflection in the chrome
I knew that she'd seen me 'cause she dropped her bikini
The one that I got her in Rome
Little does she know that I know that she knows
That I know she's two-timin' me
Little does she know that I know that she knows
That I know she's cheatin' on me
When she finished her laundry she was all in a quandary
And made for the street like a hare
Her escape was so urgent, that she forgot her detergent
And dropped all her clean underwear
Little does she know that I know that she knows
That I know she's cheatin' on me.

The great Michael Chapman (co-founder of Steeleye Span a long time ago).
He died last year aged 80. Left us 50+ albums.
Here's a couple of tracks, a small venue, live, 2014

Hoi hoi
Yessssss…., this is fun. I had some of his albums. The people who loved him so much they forgot to tell the owner (me) that they were going to lend/borrow them.
But they overlooked ‘play guitar the easy way’ so I still have that one.

Old heroes never die, but he did actually. What a pity! He was a true giant.
Thank you for pulling open old wounds.

This is the ballad I listen to when I am writing my poetic musing, and for some reason, the words just flow so beautifully and blend intimately in my creative process; you can actually feel the emotions within the music.
