This song hits hard when on the dark side of my moon, not much explains it better

Yeah
I wake up every morning with my head up in a daze
I'm not sure if I should say this, fuck, I'll say it anyway
Everybody tries to tell me that I'm going through a phase
I don't know if it's a phase, I just wanna feel okay, yeah
I battle with depression, but the question still remains
Is this post-traumatic stressin' or am I suppressing rage?
And my doctor tries to tell me that I'm going through a phase
Yeah, it's not a fucking phase, I just wanna feel okay, okay
Yeah, I struggle with this bullshit everyday
And it's probably 'cause my demons simultaneously rage
It obliterates me, disintegrates me, annihilates me
'Cause I'm about to break down, searching for a way out
I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer
I'm a popular, popular monster
I break down, falling into love now with falling apart
I'm a popular, popular monster
I think I'm going nowhere like a rat trapped in a maze
Every wall that I knock down is just a wall that I replace
I'm in a race against myself I try to keep a steady pace
How the fuck will I escape if I never close my case?
Oh my God, I keep on stressin', every second that I waste
Is another second sooner to a blessing I won't take
But my therapist will tell me that I'm going through a stage
Yeah, it's not a fucking stage, I just wanna feel okay, okay
Motherfucker, now you got my attention
I need to change a couple things 'cause something is missin'
And what if I were to lie, tell you everything is fine?
Every single fucking day I get closer to the grave
I am terrified, I fell asleep at the wheel again
Crashed my car just to feel again
It obliterates me, disintegrates me, annihilates me
'Cause I'm about to break down, searching for a way out
I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer
I'm a popular, popular monster
I break down, falling into love now with falling apart
I'm a popular, popular fucking monster
Yeah, here we go again, motherfucker, oh
We're sick and tired of wondering
Praying to a God that you don't believe
We're searching for the truth in the lost and found
So the question I ask is, oh, where the fuck is your god now?
'Cause I'm about to break down, searching for a way out
I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer
I'm a popular, popular monster
I break down, falling into love now with falling apart
I'm a popular, popular monster
I'm a liar, I'm a cheater, I'm a non-believer
I'm a popular, popular monster

Ballad of Tindersticks. @ The Tindersticks. Such a horribly under-rated band. How fame & fortune can simply create charlatans and illusions of grandeur.

Drive into Manhattan on a date with a starlet who's just talent
That's what people pay the money to see

Who're we to argue?
Five hours now it's been going on
And still we're watchin' all of it
Can you really believe all this?
Can he really lie in bed at night and marvel at his own genius?

When do you lose the ability to step back
And get a sense of your own ridiculousness?
They're only songs
Midnight, and it's all over
Now it can really make us laugh

We're standing on our heads drinking sours of Crystel Schnapps
Now we're unable to step back or step forward
Swallowing a swallow
Tasting it again, it's not so unpleasant
Perhaps it's an acquired taste

The first time, it makes you sick
Then, little by little, it becomes delicious
Showbiz people
Always there to be interested in what you have say

We are artists, we are sensitive and important
We nod our heads earnestly
Already half-way down the champagne
On our way to leaving the place dry
A $2,000 bar bill

Showbiz picks up the tab
And we're on our way laughing
Laughing at what?
Los Angeles, eight days in
And our sense of irony's running pretty thin

All the friends we've made
It's 2 a.m., it's closing time at the Dresden
Marty and Layton play one last sleepy "Strangers in the Night"
And the last of the martinis dribble down our chins
We're sittin', chasin' the conservation around the table

Jesus, how long have I been in this state?
The limousine's still waiting outside
Anything you want to do?
Anywhere you want to go?
We're on our way to the airport and a plane to Vegas

So many nights lying in bed shaking
Dreaming of pushing my daughter around the supermarket
The joy of seein' all those colors and shapes reflect in her wide eyes
My head leaning on the window
And we're driving through the empty L.A. streets
And everything seems silent and beautiful

A guy's face hits the floor
Police revolvers glistening in the streetlight
Onto Melrose and lurching through a sea of Halloween transvestites
The flight's canceled, but it doesn't matter
We turn this corner to a way that takes us wherever up to sunset
We creep up the drive to the Shattuck
The suite Belushi died in

Or the one Morrison hung out the window
Oh, I'll go for Jim's
I would fancy a hotel window-hanging, myself tonight, man
Straight over to the mini-bar
Open the champagne, one sip and it's left to wake up to

Anyone hungry?
A team of uniformed waiters
Lay out an elaborate table for all us to ignore
Oh, the irony
How we're used to living

And back in London on a cold Friday night
Do you want another drink?
Well, I could try
Perhaps we could make it to the Atlantic
600 yards, twenty minutes later
We're pushing through the waiting crowd, all fish eyes

An exclusive door policy
Exclusively for arseholes
And tonight? Well, a nod of our heads, and we're inside
Falling down the red, velvety stairs
Limbs flaying, hands searching for something to steady

Pick ourselves up, nothing broken
Just aches in the morning
No one seems to notice
I find a table, champagne arrives

I've been so drunk, I sit and look at you
We try and talk for the first time in a long time
Drunken confession
You shiver, it made you feel sick

We use the rent money to pay the bill
Bumping shoulders, we stumble out into Soho
Slipping over the sleeping bags
Shouting for taxis

Pick any Leonard Cohen song.

I do love this thread and would hate to see it fade...
this song, the way she pours and balances and sweetly with a tooth, hollers/shushes these words overwhelms me...and such a  beautiful video to boot

Joanna Newsom "Divers"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48xlgXqQKLA

A diver is my love
(and I am his, if I am not deceived),
who takes one breath above, for every hour below the sea;
who gave to me a jewel
worth twice this woman's life (but would cost her less
than laying at low tide
to see her true love phosphorescence).

And in an infinite regress:
Tell me, why is the pain of birth
lighter borne than the pain of death?
I ain't saying that I loved you first,
but I loved you best.

I know we must abide
each by the rules that bind us here:
the divers, and the sailors, and the women on the pier.
But how do you choose your form?
How do you choose your name? How do you choose your life?
How do you choose the time you must exhale,
and kick, and rise?

And in an infinite capsize:
Like a bull tearing down the coast,
double hulls bearing double masts-
I don't know if you loved me most, but you loved me last.

Recall the word you gave:
to count your way across the depths of this arid world,
where you would yoke the waves,
and lay a bed of shining pearls!
I dream it every night:
the ringing of the pail
the motes of sand dislodged,
the shucking, quick and bright:
the twinned and cast-off shells reveal a single heart of white.

And in an infinite backslide:
Ancient border, sink past the West,
like a sword at the bearer's fall.
I can't claim that I knew you best,
but did you know me at all?

A woman is alive!
A woman is alive;
you do not take her for a sign in nacre on a stone,
alone, unfaceted and fine.
And never will I wed.
I'll hunt the pearl of death to the bottom of my life,
and ever hold my breath,
till I may be the diver's wife.

See how the infinite divides:
and the divers are not to blame
for the rift, spanning distant shores.
You don't know my name,
but I know yours.

Triangle by Dredg

We're born into silence and let it all be
Lift your anchor and just float astray
Born into silence and let it all be
Fortune in silence

Watch it explode
While fragments of ironies examples fly
And hit the shore
And tyranny's torn
From the podiums where leaders stand
But rule no more

Plead with nothing... Why don't we lecture about something
Protest the way we're passive today

Watch it explode
While it's not impossible
For flowers to bloom and grow next to graves
And babies are born
In the same buildings where people go
To pass away
Pass away

Plead with nothing... Why don't we lecture about something
Protest the way we're passive today

We live like penguins in the desert
Why can't we live like tribes
We live like penguins in the desert
Why can't we live like tribes

We live like penguins in the desert
Why can't we live like tribes
We live like penguins in the desert
Why can't we live like tribes

Born into silence and let it all be
Lift your anchor and just float astray
Born into silence and let it all be
Fortune in silence

I think these guys are just incredible. Musically and lyrically. This is from their 2002 album El Cielo. They have such depth... Layers I can peel away and as I ponder upon their songs I discover new spiritual insights still to this day. It lifts me up which is more important now than ever! ...Highly recommend all Dredg!

I really enjoyed that, nomoth. Vangelis, Ask the mountains has always been a favorite of mine.

- ‘Ask the Mountains‘ Lyrics (Stina Nordenstam) -

Don't come after
Don't come after
Please don't follow me along,
When you read this I'll be gone
Ask the mountains,
Springs and fountains
Why couldn't this go on?
Couldn't our happiness go on?
Ask the sun that lightens up the sky
When the night gives in, to tell you why
Ask the mountains
Wild woods, highlands
Ask the green in the woods and the trees
The cold breeze coming in from the sea
Springs and fountains
Ask the mountains
Ask the sun that lightens up the sky
When the night gives in, to tell you why
Then tell the mountains
Springs and fountains,
Why couldn't this go on?
Couldn't our happiness go on?
Why couldn't this go on?
Couldn't our happiness go on?

absolutely frigging awesome..never heard of these guys before...I love that feel, for me, a sea feel, kind  of quiet, beautifully thoughtful calm then rising storm of overbearing waves that are so  intense. The lyrics are just perfect for that ride.

you maybe gave me the biggest recall/flashback for a long time.
I would go camping in the woods and build a big fire with a friend or friends and we would listen to  a few favorite dj's programs for that night, John Peel or Giles Peterson an they could play the most perfect music for that time and space and Stina Nordenstam was one of those songs, that just would  sing so directly intimately into our ears as we watched stoned into the fire and its embers to the night sky. Thanks for sharing that...mangods that brought back a whole lot.

I've always loved ambient-otherwordly transmitions contained in certain music, nomoth. There are several pieces that really do that for me, and many film scores as well. They don't evoke as much memory in me ( because, frankly, I listened to them on my own ); but, more of a recognizing or remembering some beauty that dwells inside the inspiration they provide.

It can be quite overwhelming emotionally. And humbling.

Break My Heart Sweetly

I swore the days were over
Courtin' empty dreams
I worshiped at the altar of losing everything
And the guard I held together
Was losing all its shape
And in my head you looked so gorgeous
It's keeping me awake

There's a scar on my soul
So let me down easy
Break my heart sweetly
Like you always do
I guess I can't let go
'Til you wreck me completely
Break my heart sweetly
Drape me in blue

I was never scared of nothin'
Thought I had a home
Life went and broke me open
So I carried it alone
I'm findin' all this well-worn sadness
I never knew I kept
And I still chase you into heartache
Every time you take a step

There's a scar on my soul
So let me down easy
Break my heart sweetly
Like you always do
I guess I can't let go
'Til you wreck me completely
Break my heart sweetly
Drape me in blue

I swore the days were over
Of courtin' empty dreams
I worshipped at the altar
Of losing everything
But you had a halo made of diamonds
Resting on your head
I should be dealing with my demons
But I'm dodgin' them instead

There's a scar on my soul
So let me down easy
Break my heart sweetly
Like you always do
I guess I can't let go
'Til you wreck me completely
Break my heart sweetly
Drape me in blue

All these accidents that happen
Follow the dots
Coincidence makes sense only with you
You don't have to speak
I feel

Emotional landscapes
They puzzle me
The riddle gets solved
And you push me up to

This state of emergency
How beautiful to be!
State of emergency
Is where I want to be.

All that no one sees you see
What's inside of me
Every nerve that hurts you heal
Deep inside of me
You don't have to speak
I feel

Emotional landscapes
They puzzle me
Confuse
Can the riddle get solved?
And you push me up to this...

State of emergency
How beautiful to be!
State of emergency
Is where I want to be

State of emergency
How beautiful to be!

Emotional landscapes
They puzzle me
The riddle gets solved
And you push me up to this

State of emergency
How beautiful to be!
State of emergency
Is where I want to be

State of emergency
How beautiful to be!

State of emergency.
State of emergency.

How beautiful
Emergency
Is where I want to be

State of emergency
How beautiful to be!
State of emergency
Is where I want to be
