Full Metal Jackoff ----Jello Biafra & DOA

Around our nation's capital
There's a freeway 8 lanes wide
White concrete ringed around the city
For those who want inside
Get on get off
Ignore everything to the sides
In your midst I drive
While homeboys in the back of the van make drugs

Wanna hide something like a ccrack lab
Just put it in plain sight
Only stop to refuel and unload
More poison to tear more lives apart
Gang wars like never before
Better lock your doors, buy some guns
And pray (prey?) for martial law

On the Washington D.C. Beltway
Around and around I go
In the black van with no windows
And a chimney puffing smoke
Bloody headlines in the news each day
Drug "crisis" everywhere
So much comes in so easy
It's as though someone wants it there

It would be a little obvious
To fence off all the slums
Hand out machine guns
to the poor in the projects
And watch 'em kill each other off
A more subtle genocide is when
The only hope for the young
Is to join the Army and slowly die
Wall Street or Crack Dealer Avenue
The last roads left to the American Dream

Wall Street or Crack Dealer AVenue
Wall Street or Crack Dealer Avenue
Only on road leads to this neighborhood
Little kids wanna sell drugs when they grow up

The folks might get just a little upset
If they knew where that dope comes from
Froom Columbia to the Contras
To our Air Force bases, where we trade it for guns
The moral equivilent of a serial killer
And his CIA friends
Call the shots from the White House
But now that we own the media too
Those stories just aren't run

On the Washington D.C. Beltway, 'round and 'round I go
In a black van with no windows, and a chimney puffing smoke
Some gang that ran smack in Viet Nam
Ain't got no reason to fear
Just get a Vice President so dumb
The crook at the top never gets impeached

That sure was easy wasn't it?
That sure was easy wasn't it?
More crack-more panic-moe cops-more jails

You see emergency-total war
You see emergency-total war
You see a black face-you see a crackhead
You see a black face-you see a crackhead
You see a black face-you see Willie Horton with a knife
You see Willie Horton with a knife

You see one Willie Horton you've seen them all
They're everywhere, I know
You asked for it, you've got it
Drug suspects have no rights at all
Property seized and sold before trial
Labor camps-on American soil?!?
Neo-Nazi bootboys
That the cops never seem to arrest
Prowl neighborhoods with baseball bats
Why now? Why do they get so much press...?

Mein Kampf-the mini series
Ollie North-"patriotic" hero
The leader for tomorrow is yours today
Finally gotcha psyched for a police state

On the Washington D.C. Beltway
Around and around I go
In a black van with no windows
And a chimney puffing smoke
My van's a mobile oven now
That burns the bodies you never see
Just like in Chile or Guatemala
People just seem to disappear

Just like Rome
We fell asleep when we got spoiled
Ignore human rights in the rest of the world
Ya might just lose your own

As the noose of narco-militarism
Tightens 'round your necks

We worry about burning flags
And pee in jars at work
To keep our jobs

But if someone came for you one night
And dragged you away
do you really think youneighbors
Would even care

A Cloud-formed Teardrop Asylum by Code

Tired souls hunched in familiar bricks
Drowned in sleeping sickness silver skeleton palace of mist
Heart-shaped carnival of sores locked up in cupboard doors
Looking up at the starry sky won't make your scarred life
Light up bright

A thirst for questions have their black reply --
Hide in cloud-mouthed skyscraper
Haven for no thoughts but mine
A muscular memory of February
When proud absence left me
Subway stations filled with forced equations for my earth to burst
The retina is so hungry I could eat a hearse
Peeling adverts perfumed with roman numerals
As we shuffle off to our jobs like funerals

Drawn by wounds to the throat of ghosts
We lost our way back to the vault of youth
Codes forged in my minerals when the earth grew old
Love's labours lost back when lives for lies were sold (our lives were sold)

Kodak coloured souvenirs
From a furnished furnace of fears
For learning to be mad
Is the poverty of happiness

And I know that it is clear
That I'm not here
In this cloud-formed invisible asylum of tears

I am ready to face my fears
As my consciousness disappears
To the internal sanctuary of seers
Where the clouds last for years and years

"I placed a blue death mask there in my book of hours
That those who dream of an earthly paradise may read it as men"

And I know that it is clear
That I'm not here
In this cloud-formed invisible asylum of tears

I am ready to face my fears
As my consciousness disappears
To the internal sanctuary of seers
Where the clouds last for years and years...

~ Go On Home

I use to run from the past
But the world got to spinnin' so fast
I run from the future now

I run as fast as I can
Tryin' to be a simple man
I just want to slow down

Well laugh if you want to
Call me a backwards fool
But I ain't takin' this ride

Ya'll just go on ahead and go
Let me out by the side of the road
All I wanna do is go on home

Don't go online I don't watch TV
Cause I know all I'm gonna see
Is something stupid goin' on

Stupids in the water these days
They're gonna drink it any way
Till they don't know right from wrong

Well laugh if you want to
Call me a backwards fool
But I ain't takin' this ride

Ya'll just go on ahead and go
Let me out by the side of the road
All I wanna do is go on home

Yeah all I wanna do is go on home

(Just about a perfect description of how i feel in todays society)

this song is by smokie norful "nothing without you"
yes he is a gospel artist and i love this song. it not only describes one's relationship with GOD but also with their partner. this song helped me realize the difference in loving someone and being in love with someone.

I have no sun, no moon, no stars, no clouds
No day or night, nothing is right
If I don't have you
I have no hills, no mountains, no valleys, no plains
No plateaus, nothing goes
If I don't have you
There is no reason any season of the year
To live without the one I love
And cherish so dear
And no amount of anything
Can replace the joy you bring
I have nothing, if I don't have you
There is no joy, no peace, no love for me
No one to care unconditionally
If I don't have you
There's no west, no east
No understanding, no peace
No one that makes my very heartbeat
If I don't have you
I have no life, no death, no air to breathe
Not even a single thing to be
If I don't have you
You gave me everything I'd ever need
You are the true definement of my destiny
Every since you've been a part of my life
My whole world has changed
You see, there's nothing undone
There are no battles unwon
No burdens that we cannot overcome
You are the beginning, you will surely be the last
My whole world starts and ends with you
You are the Alpha, you are the Omega
There is nothing that can take your place
When I think about all you've done for me
How you came and made my life complete
If it had not been for the Lord on my side
Without you Lord I surely would have died
I have nothing
Absolutely positively nothing
I have nothing if I don't have You

Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
I found her on a night of fire and noise
Wild bells rang in a wild sky
I knew from that moment on
That I'd love her till the day that I died
And I kissed away a thousand tears
My lady of the various sorrows
Some begged, some borrowed, some stolen
Some kept safe for tomorrow
On and endless night, silver star spangled
The bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me like I love you?
She was given to me to put things right
And I stacked all my accomplishments beside her
Yet I seemed so obsolete and small
I found god and all his devils inside her
In my bed she cast the blizzard out
A mock sun blazed upon her head
So completely filled with light she was
Her shadow fanged and hairy and mad
Our love-lines grew hopelessly tangled
And the bells from the chapel went jingle-jangle
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me like I love you?
She had a heart full of love and devotion
She had a mind full of tyranny and terror
Well, I try, I do, I really try
But I just err, baby, I do, I error
So come find me, my darling one
I'm down to the grounds, the very dregs
Ah, here she comes, blocking the sun
Blood running down the inside of her legs
The moon in the sky is battered and mangled
And the bells from the chapel go jingle-jangle
Jingle-jangle, jingle-jangle, jingle-jangle
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me like I love you?
All things move toward their end
I knew before I met her that I would lose her
I swear I made every effort to be good to her
I made every effort not to abuse her
Crazy bracelets on her wrists and her ankles
And the bells from the chapel go jingle-jangle
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me? Do you love me?
Do you love me like I love you?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me like I love you?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?
Do you love me?'

love Nick Cave (and thanks for posting his youtubeTV channel on the other music thread, I didnt know about at all)

gonna post this as i still love listening to it

the artist (from interviews i read) was always looking for accidents, i think he felt they were pure, unselfish, outside any control despite their consequences, i think this thought echoes in nature and these lyrics and music reflect that.

April song
Lilac glistening foal
Ten as one
On the breeze they flow

When it gets my heart out
When it gets my heart out

Nature's son
Don't you know where life has gone
Burying progress in the clouds
How we learn to linger on
Head in sand
Expecting the dour
To redress with open arms
Ascension in
Incentive end

When it gets my heart out
When it gets my heart out

Nature's son
Don't you know how life goes on
Desperately befriending the crowd
To incessantly drive on
Dress in gold's
Surrendering gown
Heaven bless you in your calm
My gentle friend
Heaven bless you

gonna post this as well, just insane lyrically, I wrote a poem inspired by this a while ago:

I chose this video as The Staves give perfect  harmonies

bon iver:    re stacks

This my excavation and to
Day is Qumran
Everything that happens is from now on
This is pouring rain
This is paralyzed
I keep throwing it down, two
Hundred at a time
It's hard to find it when you knew it
When your money's gone
And you're drunk as hell
On your back with your racks as he stacks your load
In the back with the racks and he stacks your load
In the back with the racks and you're unstacking your load
I've been twisting to the sun
I needed to replace
And the fountain in the front yard is rusted out
All my love was down
In a frozen ground
There's a black crow sitting across from me
His wiry legs are crossed
He's dangling my keys, he even fakes a toss
Whatever could it be
That has brought me to this…

Well I believe I’ll join your shenanigans Andrew...

The Beer"
Kimya Dawson

The beer I had for breakfast was a bottle of mad dog
And my 20/20 vision was fifty percent off
You said punch-buggy red and punched me right in my left eye
I said don't you mean pediddle? and I lit his house on fire
He came home on acid I was holding his shotgun
I was dressed like tina turner in beyond thunder dome
He said don't shoot, I said I won't I love you you're my friend
I handed him my wig and shot myself in the head
Then I stuffed a box of tissues in the hole in my skull
I got in my mazda and I drove to the mall
I got a big johnson shirt and some silicone tits
When I pulled out the tissues they were covered with shit
And the beer I had for breakfast was a box of cheap white wine
And the boom box on my shoulder was a box of clementines
I ate every single one without noticing the mold
You said you're gross my darling, I said no I'm rock and roll
Even though I'd never ever been in a band
I got cool as black ice tattooed on my hand
And the christians gave me comic books as if I would be scared
Of burning in hell well I was already there
And the beer I had for breakfast silver bullet in the brain
And the beer I had for lunch was a bottle of night train
And the beer I had for dinner was my crazy neighbor's pills
We had to sit down on skateboards jut to make it down the hill
Then I peed my pants and you stole the groom's cigar
And some old man made me watch him masturbate locked in his car
When I got back to the apartment you were face down on the floor
You said don't go to bed yet let's go get a 64
And the beer I had had for breakfast was a pint of jim beam
And a fifth of peach schnapps and some warm sunny d
And you said bottoms up just as I bottomed out
I tried to scream fuck you but blood was pouring out my mouth
Evan dando never planned on telling you the truth
And your leonardo i.d. card is your fountain of youth
You can be a teenager for your whole fucking life
Just find some pretty sucker and make that bitch your wife
I guess by now you all know my friends danny broke his neck
He was driving home from sirens when he got into a wreck
First I cried for him and then I cried for me
Haunted by the ghost of the girl I used to be
But the rocks with holes are warm in my hands
And I buried my toes in the hot hot sand
And the silver pink pony kisses me and says
You've come a long, long way and you deserve to be really happy

Woo! A music thread! I tried to include a URL, but apparently new members can't post URLs, buuuuuut... my choice is a pop song:

"Who Knew" by P!nk

You took my hand
You showed me how
You promised me you'd be around
Uh huh
That's right

I took your words
And I believed
In everything
You said to me
Yeah huh
That's right

If someone said three years from now
You'd be long gone
I'd stand up and punch them out
'Cause they're all wrong
I know better
'Cause you said forever
And ever
Who knew

Remember when we were such fools
And so convinced and just too cool
Oh no
No no

I wish I could touch you again
I wish I could still call you friend
I'd give anything

When someone said count your blessings now
'fore they're long gone
I guess I just didn't know how
I was all wrong
They knew better
Still you said forever
And ever
Who knew

Yeah yeah
I'll keep you locked in my head
Until we meet again
Until we
Until we meet again
And I won't forget you my friend
What happened

If someone said three years from now
You'd be long gone
I'd stand up and punch them out
'Cause they're all wrong and
That last kiss
I'll cherish
Until we meet again
And time makes
It harder
I wish I could remember
But I keep
Your memory
You visit me in my sleep
My darling
Who knew
My darling
My darling
Who knew
My darling
I miss you
My darling
Who knew
Who knew

*****

This song came out in 2006 or so I believe, and while it had an emotional effect on me, I thought that it was just some silly pop song that would fade into obscurity after a few listens, and would eventually be consumed by the fickle pop music industry machine. Even from a lyrical and musical standpoint, it is rather simplistic, repetitive, and sparse, as pop songs sometimes tend to be.

Thirteen years later though, this is still perhaps one of the most important songs in my library that never loses its clutch on me whenever it happens to play. P!nk's vocal delivery breathes life into each phrase that would otherwise sound meaningless from a voice that hasn't experienced the message of its deceptively simple words. From her perspective, she wrote the words to the song for "the death of friendship," and how she'd lost a friend to a drug overdose when she was just a teenager.

"The death of friendship" is poignant to me. For me, the lyrics of this song are written universally enough to represent loss, and that's the meaning it holds to me that's managed to stay even after all these years.

I've had friends move away. Friends that I was close with one day, and then one day woke up and realized we hadn't spoken in years. People I thought would stick around because our connections caught on like wildfire, only for them to act like they'd never known me. Friends from a time in college where we all thought we were invincible, only for them to have lost that fire when I see them again a little later on, and our separate ways had gone too separated for us to really stay friends. One friend from elementary school whom I hadn't spoken to since elementary years reached out to me one day, out of the blue, when I was in my 20s, in an attempt to reconnect. But just weeks later, I found out they'd committed suicide. And so many others.

This song makes me think of every last soul I've connected with, and in my head, imagined some kind of wild, exciting story of us: writing our future misadventures in my head, laughing about our past, navigating through our present in person over hours and hours of hopeful conversation, or through countless stupid text messages... only for Life to somehow get in the way, and suddenly, the connections are gone, or at the very least, aren't what they used to be.

Moments with these people can feel like an infinite vacuum, only for it to be cut off too soon anyway when you finally have to go home. But there's a sense of immortality that comes with connecting with somebody who you feel is a kindred spirit. The line "If someone said three years from now you'd be long gone, I'd stand up and punch them out" is a line that sticks with me, because I've definitely had naysayers like family say that things like that don't always last a lifetime. And it would anger me in the moment because it felt like them trying to invalidate whatever happiness I was feeling. Only now do I realize the weight of that sentiment.

I don't talk about these connections often (if at all), but at least one or two of them cross my mind every day in some way when I find something that reminds me of them. They're like specters, or happy projections in my head that I can't seem to will into something tangible anymore.

"Wistful" I suppose is the word that would sum up this song in one word.

If I could visually describe what I'm feeling when I hear this song, I picture myself running hand in hand with a friend and laughing. But as we run, the time of day keeps changing, the sky keeps darkening, our laughter turns into us trying to catch our breath. Then when the final chorus kicks in with the strings, our hands are unclasped, it's pitch black and I can't find my friend or reach out to them anywhere, but I'm still running. By the end of the song, the sun is rising again, and I've slowed down, but the friend is no longer running with me.

Truly, my darling, who knew?

This is Every Kind Of Way by H.E.R. this song displays the love and affection that she has for someone she appreciate. Love this song

Baby, the sound of you
Better than a harmony
I want you off my mind
And on me
Holding me closer than we've ever been before
This ain't a dream
You're here with me
Boy, it don't get no better than you
For you, I wanna take my time
All night
I wanna love you in every kind of way
I wanna please you, no matter how long it takes
If the world should end tomorrow, then we only have today
I'm gonna love you in every kind of way
Give you all, give you all of me
When you need it
'Cause I need it
I wanna fall like your favorite season
I'll never get up
Stay here forever, babe
It don't get no better than this
Your kiss
I wanna love you in every kind of way
I wanna please you, no matter how long it takes
If the world should end tomorrow, then we only have today
I'm gonna love you in every kind of way
I wanna love you in every kind of way
I wanna please you, no matter how long it takes
If the world should end tomorrow, then we only have today
I'm gonna love you in every kind of way
I wanna love you
I gotta love you
I wanna love you
I gotta love you

Sadness

~ Ben Nichols

You knew it was bound, to catch me again
Well hello sadness
My old friend
Well it's been awhile
But now I see
You're back in style
Well sit down and rest, I ain't goin' no where
I feel the pain
Like a shot from a gun
Feel it deep in my gut
I'm done tryin to run
I'm given in, I'm given up
I'm tired of the fight
Well you got my corner
To know it ain't right
Well ill surrender tomorrow if I live through the night.
Well you got my corner
Hell I know it ain't right,
Well Ill surrender tomorrow if I live through the night
