Closed ( not total ) cases ( as of right now ): 107,793
Recovered/Discharged: 94,793 =88%
Deaths: 13,000 = 12%
So the death rate for closed cases has been 12%
The overall death rate for ALL cases ( both active and closed = 196,808 ) is 6.605 = 7%
Is that right?! Has it jumped that much since our discussion last night?! Or did I hit the calculator wrong?
Just saw the second part....something wrong with your total mortality figure.
As of today WHO total reported cases is 276 000, with total deaths at 11 000, which makes total mortality rage of reported cases 4%. John Hopkins figures will be about the same.

Worldometer > 306,892
Johns Hopkins > 304,529
That's a pretty big gap between them and WHO. When does WHO update?

Not really in this situation...it’s less than a 10% difference. Each will be publishing on a different 24 hour cycle, which will account for some of it, plus this data is coming from everywhere....in Palau a guy rides to the medical persons house on a bicycle....data delivery is far from perfect.

And that's exactly why I stuck with Worldometer after a few weeks of tracking them all. It seemed to update the fastest.

You don't have to keep updating us, Ahavati. We all have access to these numbers & we are all feeling tense.

Probably. I can’t think of a time in history when there was true societal collapse (which is what these people seem to almost pine for), where a small group as small as 200 people survived beyond it. It certainly must have happened, but because they are not recorded obviously at some point some larger group has subsumed/conquered them. Not my area, and not really in to living under what feels to me like too much fear.
I think it’s that US thing again, where what they really fear is their own government, fuelled by gun lobby $$$ feeding/funding fear campaigns.
Probably also works for the entire country in helping them justify to themselves why they have the most heavily armed country in history, why military personnel are instant heroes, why continued defeats are reframed as necessary police actions or examples of bringing freedom....hard to see how you could vote in a system like that unless you really believed the most dangerous country on the planet was “somebody else”, and not actually yourselves.

Yes yes You hit fear right on the head with this one brother it's the government and their beliefs and tactics that create fear in some of the people. It's not the people we try to keep.out it would be the military with which we would protect ourselves from We will stand for our freedom our rights as citizens with our own militia.

lepperochan said:UK had a mind to use Herd immunity as their model. an interesting course of action. in the end the government balked to pressure and introduced the European measures
Herd immunity, if I got it right, would kick in once 60% of the population were infected. I think they were putting a lot of faith into the once you recover you'll be grand kind of thing. cant remember the projection for death rate but it must have been pretty high
I wonder if it would have been the way to go
speaking as a denizen of this country run by an entire unironic straw man scarecrow
that is the same as taking no action whatsoever. and like we were saying earlier, 60% of the population infected is too many for the nhs. they’ve run pandemic simulators many times before and the computer says many people will die.
ireland is even more fucked as regards healthcare
... so even if it’s too late, the government now must pretend to try, and blame the public and their personal failure if their lungs fail waiting in a&e
