Layla said:My company is still open but its been chaotic, rules have been changing by the day, at times by the hour.  The city has implemented ordinance and i'm still seeing people with children everywhere.  Just yesterday I saw a kid around 11 yrs old running around barefoot while the mom was shopping for clothes. wtf!  the kid was breathless, coughing and the mom encouraged her to go do another lap.
Most of the grocery stores in my neighborhood are closed, the closest one is about 10 miles away, but some closer ones are only doing delivery or pickup.

Meanwhile our corp has told us we need to carry a piece of paper (in case we get stopped by the cops) that has our name, emp number and their signature, also some national link that verifies employment,  to show that we are out driving to or from to tend work.
There was one confirmed death one town over, a 38yr old guy who had gone to florida 2 wks ago with his family and attended some amusement park, upon return it took about a week to show symptoms and he passed away couple days ago.

That is horrible to hear.  My heart goes out to the families suffering.  Stay safe and be healthy, Layla.

You as well Ahavati.
I hope this will be a wake up call to our government to set aside funds for the future, because even after the dust settles the devestation of the economy will keep on rippling for sometime.  On the news they said, over 2million ppl will be applying for unemployment and that $1000 that the gov is talking about is only a drop in the bucket.
I was talking about this with my supervisor yesterday and I feel that gov should mendate for companies to set aside a fund for disasters like this because for now any company over 500 employees (per governement) can encourage us to use our vacation time and any company under 500 vacation or sick time and its not fair to us that we have to use time earned to get by, and for some we only have one weeks vacation earned, what the hell will that cover in scheme of things.

Thank you Ahavati for providing factual information in a world of alternative facts.  Reports on the mortality rate from Italy are far more credible then what has been provided by China.  We need keep in mind that China's media is tightly controlled by a totalitarian regime.  Consequently, the exact numbers of deaths are in question.

Of course, it doesn't help when America's Tangerine & Chief tries blaming the Chinese people with racial innuendo.

Point is, now is the time for our world's leaders to cooperate like never before to defeat this disease.

Take hope in remembering the Ebola outbreak in 2016 which was by far a more deadly disease.  It was contained then defeated by a vaccine.

A tremendous thank you to all DU's poets that work in healthcare.  I'm certain that some of you are, or soon will be, overwhelmed.  Despite the stress, know you are loved and appreciated.  This includes one of our moderators, our precious Madam Lavender.

Love and blessings to all. 🙏❤🙏

We have a bunch of intelligent influential non-statisticians trusting the media. Like John Oliver, Ahavati, etc...

The media lying by numbers to us has, had a rapacious emotional effect. Society just changed forever.

Once the lies are exposed.... uh oh.

Now, people obey advice more devastating than the outbreak, or even what happened to the New York towers.

They (the meta managers, power brokers, guys w/more sway and $$ than a nation) can't control what comes next. But we won't be making similar political or economic choices ever again.

If ONLY our Tangerine was just racist. He seems to be accusing them of bioattacks.

The Washington Examiner reported:

Israel’s leading drug producer announced Thursday it will donate 6 million doses of anti-malaria drugs to the United States in hopes that it could be helpful treating coronavirus symptoms.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries says the drug could potentially treat people with the coronavirus and will ship the hydroxychloroquine tablets through wholesalers nationwide by the end of the month and will provide 10 million doses in total, according to Breitbart News.

“We are committed to helping to supply as many tablets as possible as demand for this treatment accelerates at no cost,” Teva Executive Vice President Brendan O’Grady said about the move.

President Trump has expressed support and optimism for potential treatments, including malaria drugs chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.

Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread

From the article.

Background
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is caused by a newly discovered coronavirus (SARS-CoV). No effective prophylactic or post-exposure therapy is currently available.

Results
We report, however, that chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS-CoV infection of primate cells. These inhibitory effects are observed when the cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic and therapeutic advantage. In addition to the well-known functions of chloroquine such as elevations of endosomal pH, the drug appears to interfere with terminal glycosylation of the cellular receptor, angiotensin-converting enzyme 2. This may negatively influence the virus-receptor binding and abrogate the infection, with further ramifications by the elevation of vesicular pH, resulting in the inhibition of infection and spread of SARS CoV at clinically admissible concentrations.

Conclusion
Chloroquine is effective in preventing the spread of SARS CoV in cell culture. Favorable inhibition of virus spread was observed when the cells were either treated with chloroquine prior to or after SARS CoV infection. In addition, the indirect immunofluorescence assay described herein represents a simple and rapid method for screening SARS-CoV antiviral compounds.

Not addressing this comment at you EddibleWords but at the second half of your statement: "...[The President] seems to be accusing [China] of bioattacks."

The evidence suggests the virus originated a Chinese biolab in Wuhan approximately 20 miles from the wet market.

As explained in Nature, COVID-19’s Franken-genome combines a cornucopia of distinct genetic markers from each of the three other distinct branches of the coronavirus family tree, but is distinct enough from all of them that it in fact forms its own clade.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41564-020-0688-y

A full-genome evolutionary analysis of COVID-19 published in The Lancet concluded, “recombination is probably not the reason for emergence of this virus” since it seems that the Wuhan Strain isn’t a mosaic of previously known coronaviruses, but instead draws from distant, discrete parts of the coronavirus family tree – not how these viruses naturally evolve.

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)30251-8/fulltext

UPDATE 2/14, 3:02am EST: A probable smoking pre-print has been released, by the National Natural Science Foundation of China:

“In summary, somebody was entangled with the evolution of 2019-nCoV coronavirus. In addition to origins of natural recombination and intermediate host, the killer coronavirus probably originated from a laboratory in Wuhan.”

https://www.scribd.com/document/447056518/Originsof2019-NCoV-XiaoB-Res#from_embed

In a predictable turn, that article has been removed and both researchers have since deleted their profiles off of the ResearchGate site completely. Furthering the appearance of a cover-up, back on January 2nd, the Wuhan Institute of Virology’s director sent out a memo forbidding discussion of an “unknown pneumonia in Wuhan” after ordering the destruction of all related lab materials a day earlier, making it abundantly clear that the Chinese government knew about this outbreak long before they took any steps to contain it, or made any public announcement.

The fact that this Wuhan Strain of coronavirus, denoted as COVID-19, emerged in close proximity to the only BSL-4 virology lab in China, which in turn was staffed with at least two Chinese scientists – Zhengli Shi and Xing-Yi Ge – both virologists who had previously worked at an American lab which had already bio-engineered an incredibly virulent strain of bat coronavirus – the accidental release of a bio-engineered virus from Wuhan’s virology lab cannot be automatically discounted, especially when the Wuhan Strain’s unnatural genomic signals are considered

My take - IF our intelligence community has been able to verify it was a bioengineered and released virus, then yes, the President has the right to blame China and their "wet market/bat soup" cover stories.

[ Seemingly attempting to justify racism scapegoatism ]

President Trump's notes from Thursday's coronavirus briefing show someone crossed out the word “Corona” in coronavirus and replaced it with the word “Chinese.”

This picture captured by Washington Post Photographer Jabin Botsford, comes as Trump has stepped up his efforts to scapegoat China for the spread of the coronavirus.

The change in tone from the White House comes as the number of cases in the US rises on a daily basis, and despite Trump initially praising China's President Xi Jinping for his handling of the crisis.

After consulting with medical experts and receiving guidance from the World Health Organization, CNN has determined that the term “Chinese virus” is both inaccurate and considered stigmatizing.

https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/coronavirus-outbreak-03-19-20-intl-hnk/h_21c623966aa148dbeed242de4e94943e

But keep seemingly attempting to excuse his behaviour justify racism scapegoatism.
