lol, i think most of us realise that, blackwolf... it was more about the wetter &heavy on the meat nature of brit ones v the anything goes in the us of a how d'ya feel about a good cassoulet?

A thick cassoulet , with properly prepared beans , and the right meat ,
seasoned with the right hot spices , might make a decent stovetop stew...
I still am more inclined to an oven prepared dish , overall , on cold days , as it warms the house while the dish is being baked...saves money then as it incorporates two jobs at same time...
