Bullseye!🎯

You see, when you nominate another memberís poem, the system thinks itís YOURS by default - and as we all know, you canít vote for yourself.  Thatís why you donít see the option to vote.

Ms. Butters, did you nominate the poem "innocence returning'?
If you nominated it, then its like voting for 'yourself' thats why perhaps you're not seeing the option to vote underneath it
oops, yes!

Were you the one that posted that nomination Ms. Butters?

Edit: oh ok, so that's why you can't vote for that poem, its like voting for yourself.

well that just sucks donkeys...

we nominate a piece because we think it's the best and would like to see it voted for, and then we can't vote for it? wtf?

your nomination itself is considered 'a vote', basically you're showcasing it for others to see and find an agreement with your choice.

my ghast is flabbered... srsly.

so we take the time to read and consider a LOT of poetry, decide which we think is the best, nominate that, and then can only vote for something else? what hell kinds of sense does that make?

perhaps i need another coffee to come to terms with this.

Ah but you see, ms butters, if something doesnít get nominated, NO one could vote for it.  See?

Layla[b said:]I think each person should only nominate ONE poem rather than two because if we're trying to highlight (according to our own personal opinion) one excellent, exceptional poem than we need to find that one great poem for that month, not 2!
It will force us to take our time to find that one great poem rather than bank on having a second round to nominate another one.
[/b]

Secondly, as a suggestion to incorporate the veteran wins along with undiscovered poets how about every fourth month of the year (3 times a year) we can switch it to nominating members who have been here less than 180 days.
On profiles it shows how long someone has been on this site, also it relieves the confusion of less than 10 trophies etc since trophies most often are a combo of wins and supportive commentators.  And as the calendar progresses the 180 day rule will apply to newer members coming along.

It would certainly simplify the process  -- love this idea.

I haven't been a member that long but maybe due to lack of active members
the 2 poem referral was to cause for greater discovered readership even if said spill didn't win?

*sigh* sure, but if we all decided we only wanted to vote for a poem we'd already decided was the best, none of the nominators would vote. not such a big issue if there are plenty of outside votes coming in, it's true.

I completely understand your frustration but since we all favor our own nomination above others and we can't vote for it, its best not to vote at all.
Because by voting for some other poem than yours, in essence its counterbenefiting your own nomination.
So its best not to participate at all and let it play out.

one last comment (whinge) :p

so how many of us here, as nominators, voted for something other than we'd nominated?  if you did, was it because you thought it a better poem that you'd missed before, or hadn't you gone looking much and so missed it anyway?

I think this thread is problematic, but only in the case of the title of the comp. So I now must assume that the Poem of the month is not the best poem of the month for these reasons:

1. Previous winners to be excluded within a calendar year.
2. An arbitrary number you can nominate (2)
3. A single person who can withdraw or hide andy poem he wishes

I am fine with the poem of the month being hailed as "Some of the best we have to offer"

January 2020 resets the clock and ANYONE can be nominated and win, within the guidelines set forth.

So If I was to win it in January I would not be able to win it until next January? what happens to a poem nominated in March - does it just get hidden?

You know, i thought about what You all are chatting about -- a long time ago and often i read spills that EFFIN BLEW MY MIND and i didn't see because i either didn't follow that writer or i just plain missed it due to RL time away from being online.

Just adding my thoughts -- don't really have anything plus or minus to add

As my above reply to yours Ms. Butters i personally don't participate in voting when i nominate a poem.
Having said that, i don't nominate every month,  i've been here a little over a year, i've only nominated two times and both of those times i didn't vote to not give a vote away to anothe poem, since i did favor my nominations more.

But each to their own.

no, you have a very valid point, Tallen; not everyone has the luxury of time. some days i have more than others, and i get that people might not have seen the pieces nominated. hell, if i liked a poem better i'd not seen before i'd vote for that. it's not about WHO wrote it, not for me, it's about the quality of the poem.
