it is if an agenda demands it
regarding the holocaust: what do you think was the most important lesson we took from it ?

This actually came up in a conversation I was having earlier with somebody. A couple of years ago, I visited Dachau. The most important lesson I took from it was actually a daisy growing through a crack in one of the crematorium walls - even in the most monstrous, inhumane, desolate of places... kindness and beauty and simplicity will always come through, regardless.
It was probably one of the most harrowing experiences of my life but I think it should be compulsory for everybody to visit a death camp. Nothing much bothers you after that. People really are disgusting to each other.
What’s the most profound thing you’ve read or heard lately?

Don't mean to jump in and trash the thread but saying _the_ holocaust is an example of holocaust denial.
Recall that Raphaei Lemkin coined the word to describe the Armenian genocide ... I don't want to go on but ...

Saying “the” before an event is a descriptive, not a slur. That’s just politically correct hoodoo, my dear. I certainly for one second do not deny ‘the’ Holocaust happened. I’ve seen the scratch marks on the “shower” doors.
What else are we supposed to call it? Even the death camp describes itself as the Holocaust memorial. That’s enough reason for me to describe it as the Holocaust without feeling I’m causing any offence to the innocent Jews that senselessly died.
Do you think political correctness has gone mad?

i) There was a chap called Raphael Lemkin (I mentioned his name earlier, a man I greatly admire) who coined the word genocide.
ii) He did this on the basis of the genocide the Turks committed against the Armenians.
iii) So, when people say _the_ genocide to describe the genocide committed by the Nazis against the Jews is to deny the many other genocides.
I appreciate that the OP didn't _mean_ to deny any of the other genocides but to claim that there has ever been only one genocide is to deny the others.

And what about the genocide committed by the Turks against the Armenians, didn't that count dear? What about the genocide in Rwanda, another one that didn't matter?
As to my question to continue the thread ... should we describe the slaughter in Indonesia (1965 to 1966) as a genocide?

thank you, Umm <3
eh, I think forcing people to use particular words is contrary to the spirit of freedom and as such would be an insult to the many many millions who died in the last hundred years
and the numerous millions who've perished in the last ten. so I don't believe we've learned any lessons, in fact I think we've developed more of a tolerance to evil
any decent new movies

Decent new movie: I’d have to say “Operation Finale” which I saw in August & was about the capture & trial of Adolph Eichmann, orchestrator of the Final Solution, or Holocaust, since this thread has veered onto that topic.
As an aside , I’ll just say that The Holocaust was no less or more of a genocide in definition, than any of the other genocides mentioned here—it just happened to have a more formal name attached to it, hence the title as we know it.
To give a viewpoint from a Bible -believing stance, I’ll say that it has been Satan the devil’s intent to erase the Jews from the world for centuries. Why? Well, because the Jews brought forth Jesus who was born and raised as one, and who is also God and Savior, has conquered death and Satan by his death on the cross on subsequent resurrection. The devil knows this and knows his time is short, so why not try to get in a bunch of damage to this world before his clock runs out?
Do you think that the devil might just have a hatred for the Jews, so intense, that the atrocities we had during WWII, were satanically driven? That’s not to belittle any of the other genocides through history because Satan seeks to destroy all life, but he certainly has a special hatred for Jews, because a Jew, Jesus, conquered him.
So that’s my view and input on the topic and to get back to the premise of this thread, next question:
Do you think that humanity will fully learn lessons from past genocides and not have another one of great magnitude, or are we ticking time bombs, ready to explode again at some point?

(FYI, a history lesson. The word Holocaust is actually an old word for a Jewish sacrificial offering that was burnt on an altar. So the word Holocaust belongs to the Jews. They’ve earned the bloody right.)
I actually think we are ticking time bombs. Some people never learn. There’s always another megalomaniac around the corner.
What was the last song lyric that made you smile?

Their have been many extreme instances of mass genocide - The extermination of Jews and others is known as "The Holocaust" There has been genocide in greater numbers but we do not refer to the as the Stalinist holocaust in Russia or the Maoist holocaust in China and of course the american indigenous people holocaust in the USA.
We have other reference points for these genocides and others. "The Holocaust" refers to the six million Jews and others that were slaughtered.

Humanity has never learned lessons from it's past and never will. As George Carlin said we are "semi-civilised jungle beasts" that is all we are, part of the animal kingdom and the worst part of it. We have an innate inferiority complex, that makes men (Mainly) prone to be feeling short changed and jealous of other's people perceived stuff an so we have to kill or invade. We just cant help ourselves.
we are like blind lab rats who cannot learn their way around a maze. We are all ticking time bombs always have been always will be.
If women were in power would history have been different?
