I was a participant with the Church Of All Worlds ,

and in the outer circle of the Ravenheart community

( Oberon and Morning Glory Zell - Ravenheart ) and

was involved with a number of those in the inner

circle as lovers ;

Oberon and Morning Glory were instrumental in

spreading the message of polyamory in the United

States , and often lectured at our large Pagan gatherings ,

including our annual festival at Harbin Hot Springs in

Northern California ;

Morning Glory's definition is the one used in the Oxford Dictionary ;

I was right in the "middle" of the huge movement from 80's - 90's on ,

until I stopped going to the gatherings...Oh , the stories I know...

And things done ( me included )...LOL !

I think open marriages are probably mostly sought by men who love to fuck around and there for his love is not real or true, probably many women are pressured into open marriage - if a woman wants an open marriage I would say the same about her as I have him

Something i would like to mention is that in a way there are different topics happening here. Open marriage, meaning you go your way I go mine.
And swinging which involves the couple participating together.
Maybe no difference,  maybe BIG difference.  Hmm.
Since the original poll is concerning open marriage I'm not sure I should have brought swinging into the mix, however it is an open marriage of sorts because they partner's are not monogamous.

I guess during tax season.  Lol

Not in the Pagan / Alternative communities I know , David ,

though mainstream common thought probably would apply ;

There are many who enter into marriage with the same idea

as when they were in a open relationship ;

It is all in the way they define marriage , and what "rules" apply...

My wife and I practice open marriage, but so far I haven't been able to get it right.

She tells me I can see anyone I want, but interrogates me if she finds an unknown hair in the car.

When a lady gets interested in me and wants to go to the next level, (go out for a lunch break), I start name dropping my wife so much, the poor lady backs off and stops speaking to me.

I frequently tell my wife to keep in touch with her soul mate pen pal.
When I notice my wife is on the phone with him, I disappear for several hours without notice. My wife becomes worried and hangs up on him and calls me to find what has happened.

Oh well, maybe with a little more practice.

For me it really depends on the relationship itself. I personally would not be down with an open relationship for the most part but I'm not totally against the idea

We are not programmed for one person relationships...

Those are moral or societal overlays over our original

programs of evolution , spiritual or otherwise ( such as

survival of individual or species ) and are subsets and

should be ignored or dismissed as defective , in context

of progressive mentality , and / or necessity of the genetic

progeny birthed outside of a union determined by faulty

imposed religious ,  societal or individual standards , or

fear based impositions due to a lack of self confidence ,

or the fear of loss of connection with one's chosen mate...

Why get married then? Imop.. a marriage is Sacred. Its a Union of two people who devote to each other. We're not at the stage anymore where we walk out of a cave and clonk a girl over the head ,drag her in the bushes and move on to another. There are certain religions that practice one husband and many wives.. yet .. if you have to sleep outside of the bedroom then where's the commitment.  What if the other person you sleep with gets pregnant? Or has a disease.. there's a disease that women get in their vagina that causes cancer.. then she has to  have the whole thing removed... then what..and all for what?   What if you have kids? Would they wanna know mommy's riding the hobby horse with Tommy's dad down the street..  Morals are what we either practice as a society or not? It's a Union.. peace.
