Writing for fun or money?

Fun or money ?  Hmmm...well if you give me money might I have fun?  Perhaps, and if you give me money, might I have time to have fun?  Perhaps, and if you give me money to have time to have fun, might I just have the time to write some poetry, which, by the way I often bemoan not being able to write due to lack of time and money? Perhaps.  So, if I could write and make money, which would give me the fun, that would lead to the time, to write poetry with, I would be a smiling Jack.

I have a personal website that is adultish in nature where I share my erotic poems. Once upon a time it generated anywhere from $500 to $1K per month from adult website subscriptions sold.

Nowadays, it barely makes anything, simply due to the fact that Google is less inclined to send surfers to lesser known and obscure websites. That and most surfers only care about getting free porn from mega tube sites that steal videos from other legitimate adult sites.

I just write for fun. It's simply a way to express the way I'm feeling at any particular time.

Hey! Shakespeare wrote for money!
Most poets write to get laid.
Old ass badgers like me write cos we ain't right.
Though I am right about Shakespeare.
Of all my published poems, I've only been paid for three.
So I keep the day job.
Then there's the egomania. Fame, that can be a motivator.
There's peer appreciation.  When a poet dubs you: poet, well hell boy, that's the cat's nads!
To hear a lit grad with doctorate on wall call you a poet-
That'll give you a grand case of kissmyass!

Poets that tap into mainstream feelings tend to bode well;
we who dabble with the alien perspective tend to hold our own court.  The problem with courts is they all got judges.
So, yeah, fuck, let's get paid.  Then let's get laid.  And if you get scandalized, remember, there's no such thing as bad publicity!

As for advice, mine would be go for it.  It'll be a lot less on the pain if you know you got a sizable readership going out the gate.
If not, try to outshine Charley Sheen.

I agree with him...

Kou_Indigo said:...So for me, there are a LOT of very different reasons why I write. None of them money-related though… but I salute anyone who chooses that for a career and is able to make it work! If anyone can make money doing what they love doing the most, there is certainly nothing wrong with that. :)

Well said, Jessica...I totally agree!

I write for fun and necessity. Writing is how I make sense of this odd life. If I could be paid somehow, that'd be great.
Art doesn't seem to earn much money these days though.

I used to write for fun and still do but now I'm working on a compilation and I hope to be able to publish soon. I love writing romance but my favourite is erotica and dark stuff.

Everything I do in life is for fun. The two are not mutually exclusive.

I enjoy writing poetry, however it would be wonderful to get paid. Finding that most poetry mag. do not pay.
