The Ballad Of The Poem Of 2024 (cont.)

"My love!" he said, "Wake up! You dream!
We're not now in our home!
We're walking down this lonely road,
just us, we two, alone.

The markers rattling in the wind
have turned aside your mind;
a graveyard is an eerie place,
let's leave it long behind.

The Moon is shining far above
and she will light our way
until the rising sun returns
at welcome break of day."

The Maiden woke and realised
that she was not at home,
but walking down a midnight road
with many miles to roam.

She sighed and took her Lover's hand,
together they walked on,
and from those eerie roadside graves
they very soon were gone.

But lurking on the road ahead,
two Robbers lay in wait
with cudgels bound with iron bands
and gleaming daggers in their hands,
the blades so sharp and straight.

'Here come those two," the leader growled.
"The Lovers we must kill!"
The Moon then hid her pearly light,
a Raven shrieked out in the night,
the voice of Murder shrill.

"What's that?" the Maiden cried, alarmed
by that ungodly sound.
"I do not know", her Lover said,
while looking, scared, around.

"I like it not, though, and I fear
there's Evil in this night.
The Moon she heard that wicked cry
and then put out her light!"

The Maiden frowned and bending down
she picked a strong, stout stick.
"If any Evil is around,
I'll bash it goddarned quick!"

The Robbers pounced with knives and clubs;
the Maiden swung her stick.
The Robbers died with fractured skulls
as if they'd both been charged by bulls:
the Maiden's stick was thick!

"My love!" her Lover proudly cried,
and kissed her where she stood.
The Robbers dead lay on the ground
and all around was blood.

"It's nothing, Dear," the Maiden said,
"The threat of them's now gone,"
and hand in hand along the Road
the Lovers journeyed on.

she said:
here I stand so sad and true
deprived of my station
being a sage and a warrior
in a land that had ceased to be

we were conquered by other evil
when we paused to celebrate
a resounding victory in battle
they overwhelmed us without mercy

my tender heart beneath the armour
was my own undoing
a warrior maid must forget emotions
but now I embrace compassion

The Ballad Of The Poem Of 2024 (cont.)

Her Lover squeezed her hand and said,
"My love, your heart's too kind.
A warrior Maiden's heart must match
a stern and ruthless mind,

but that kind heart, I'll tell you now,
and then, my love, you'll know,
is only one of reasons why,
my love, I love you so.

But come, no more of gloomy thoughts,
a new day has begun
and over far horizon peeps
the welcome morning sun.

We've walked all night and now it's time
to rest from our long road.
Let's stop and sit in these soft woods
and lighten our hard load."

The wood alive with singing birds,
who welcomed sunshine back,
the Lovers hand in hand walked in,
along a flowery track.

They sat beneath an old oak tree
and while their coffee brewed
they spread upon a tablecloth
all sorts of lovely food.

Delicious bread they had to eat
with honey thickly spread,
and never even had the gods
upon such sweetness fed.

The birds all sang and flowers smiled
to see that happy pair,
beneath that oak tree quite content,
forgotten all their care.

Then when they'd eaten all they could
they both lay down to rest.
The Maiden laid her weary head
upon her Lover's chest,

and fast asleep the Lovers fell
to birdsong in the trees,
and all those kindly singing birds
then covered them with leaves.

They slept together safe and warm
with smiles upon their face,
until they woke and time it was
to leave that peaceful place.

'Come on, my love," the Maiden said,
"We really need to go."
They said goodbye to all the birds
and started on their road.

She said:
once upon a midnight clear
in my previous life, I swear
I met a man dressed in yellow
standing quietly at my door

allow me shelter for a while
until the night is done
or until the bell shall toll
and my tormenter be all gone

the yellow clad man did enter
and sat upon my bed
he fell asleep on my pillow
as i wandered  with wonder outside

as the pale moon waned to morn
the yellow clad man was gone
I stayed inside my castle alone
for nine months till baby was born

(Nice one, Grace.🙃💐)

The Ballad Of The Poem Of 2024 (cont.)

"The rotten swine!" her Lover cried,
"How could a man do that?
To leave alone a lovely girl,
he must have been a rat!

Could I but meet him, he'd soon learn
to not do that again!
I'd punch his head and break his nose
and cause him lots of pain!

But that was then and this is now,
my love, and know this true:
forever ever after, Love,
there's only me and you!

Not ever shall I leave your side,
until you tell me, 'Go!'
and stronger every day, my love,
my love for you shall grow."

The Maiden smiled and kissed his cheek
and said, "My love, I know.
On every day in every way,
your love for me you show,

and evermore I shall return
the love you have for me:
to my pure heart the man you are
who holds the only key."

The Lovers laughed and hugged and kissed
as lovers often do
when beating hearts they beat as one
in lovers loving true.

But then the sky turned dark and grey,
and round the Lovers roared
a raging wind sprung from the North
and down the rain it poured.

The thunder crashed and lightning flashed
then blackness gripped the sky.
The Lovers thought the time had come
for them to surely die,

but then a blazing lightning bolt
the ground before them split
and hurled those two stormblasted souls
in to a deep dark pit.

The Maiden screamed, imagining
the way this was to Hell;
her Lover screamed, imagining
that selfsame thought as well!

Then down and down and down and down
the Lovers swiftly fell,
until at last they hit the ground
and yelled a mighty yell.

The Maiden's Lover landed first
and gave his head a crack.
The Maiden wasn't hurt at all:
she'd landed on his back!

"Well, lucky me!" the Maiden said,
"I wasn't hurt a bit!"
Her Lover lay there feeling like
his head had surely split.

The Maiden saw a bottle stood
upon a tiny table,
with 'Drink Me' tied around its neck
upon a tiny label.

A caterpillar sat upon
a mushroom red and white,
a hookah holding in his hand,
tobacco burning bright.

A rabbit dashed past, seeming stressed
a watch held in his hand.
The Maiden guessed then they had come
to famous Wonderland!

Her Lover groaned and rubbed his head
then got up off the ground.
The pair of them then hand in hand
set off to look around.

She said:
if we walk on yellow brick
and avoid the raggedy carpet
will the colour yellow stick
to the soles of our feet

Oftentimes I think of you
carefree alone and joyous
traveling where you wish
enjoying  the sunny days

if we gaze long at the sun
will we see the stars beyond
or will we fall down to the ground
and go completely blind

irritated, he turned to her
and smack her pretty crown
he wasn't too eager
to answer every silly question

The Ballad Of The Poem Of 2024 (cont.)

"My love! My love!" her Lover cried,
"A wasp had landed there
and tangled up it had become
within your pretty hair!

I had to strike you, darling dear,
I had to strike your head.
That wasp was very poisonous!
It would have stung you dead!

I had to kill it, darling dear,
and now no more it flies,
upon the ground it lies instead
and squashed flat now it dies!"

"My love! My love!"
the Maiden cried,
"You've saved my very life,
and if you ever ask of me
I will become your wife!"

"My love! My love!"
her Lover cried,
and went down on one knee.
"My love, my darling precious girl,
will now you marry me?"

"My love. My love."
the Maiden sighed!
"Oh, yes. Oh, yes, I will,
and ever will we love as one!
Our joy will overspill."

The Lovers kissed and kissed again
and kissed again once more,
then hand in hand they wandered off
to Wonderland explore.

Over the hills and far away
they wandered on happily
on one place they couldn't stay
they need to go on the journey

they jumped over brooks
walked through fields
they only stop to cook
and sleep on nature's beds

for wine they ate wild grapes
for snacks they ate berries
they drink from the spring
they didn't lack for anything

but for the constant chattering
he would've enjoyed everything
she was only quiet when sleeping
before she started snoring

In my heart you inspire
bold, untamed desire
raging torrents of wild delight
to hold you and taste

I hold you in my hands
with bold happy untamed
lick and suck you in ecstasy
my delicious ice-cream

Hahahaha!🙃 You're all Woman, Grace!💐👍

The Ballad Of The Poem Of 2024 (cont.)

The Maiden slurped and sucked and licked.
She wanted more and more!
Her Lover sat there, open-mouthed –
he'd not known this before!

She sprinkled nuts upon the top
and squirted fruity sauce,
which then her soft and probing tongue
licked off again, of course.

She filled her mouth with dreamy cream,
so very sweet its taste.
She swallowed every single drop.
A drop she did not waste!

Then when at last the cream was gone,
the Maiden smacked her lips.
Her tongue flicked out to check to see
if there were any drips,

but there were none, the cream was gone,
she sat back with a sigh
and looked upon her Lover there,
with tender loving eye.

"My love," he said, amazedly,
and handed her her hat,
"I've never known of any girl
who licked ice-cream like that!

The day was hot and I'm so glad
we found this ice-cream shop.
The road on which we go is long,
for rest we had to stop,

but now, my love, it's time to leave,
to travel on our Quest,
and we will go much faster now
we've had our pleasant rest."

The Lovers kissed and hand in hand
they set off on their road.
The day went by so pleasantly,
the miles behind them flowed,

and when they stopped and made their bed
beneath a moon so bright
the Maiden in her Lover's arms
had ice-cream dreams all night.

She said:
let slumber sweet wrap us in sleep
let beautiful dreams lend us warmth
may the fireflies illuminate and keep
us lighted and soften the night's darkness

let the breeze on the carpet of green
engulf us in its gentle coolness
let the dappled shadows
play upon our tired brows

if the wind on the treetops
and hoot of the owls
be our nighttime lullaby
let us accept with gentle grace

and let us sleep tight tonight
and let our body and soul rest
