(NoPoo 203) A Self Imposed Imprisonment

Memories crowding
Unbidden thoughts
Unwanted feelings
Claustrophobic
Breathing laboured

Silly anxieties rising
A monster from the deep
Roaring into life
Overbearing darkness
Stifling reason

Walls closing
Doors blocked
Escape  route seems
So uncertain
At this moment

Mountains created
Out of nothing
Becoming haunting ghosts
Looming doubtful shadows
Destroying sane sensibility

Shore

white sandy beach
lapped incessantly by waves
crashes of angry waters
driftwoods
broken seashells
a jetty
boats gently rocked
I think of you
safe haven.

pride

started
with a brick
thrown by
a proud black
trans woman

gifting us
a rainbow
in return.

Howl

You’re not Gay
I told myself, year on year
waiting for the queer
to leave me

and well, perhaps
I kept telling
myself that

until red came

like the answer
to a question
I was never
brave enough
to fully ask.

She was
the most beautiful thing
I ever got stuck on

her thinly fluted wrists
draping casually over hips
waiting for somebody to write
the poetry of it all

and when she kissed me
I remember thinking
how her lip balm tasted
like sweet, summer melon

red
in our glasses
red
on our mouths
red
tangled in hands
that knew nothing
of hatred.

See the thing is
when I think of her
I wonder how anything
so pure could be a sin

and I lay here in the dark
thinking of people
who have come and gone,
how their pillows spoke
different languages
each morning

how bodies are never the way
but a map of tangled lands
marking inescapable drives.

the silence of the caveman

_

it was no asylum

and yes, there was history

not all that meets the eye
passes the smell test

there were beating hearts
and beatings

voice
the enemy of the peace
and sleep

stare at the roof
was all
he could do

shameless

yours is constant
that drumbeat
of an incessant cacophony
always beating
always needing

when attention IS the apex—
to be spotlit
and of wanted shine
is purposed breath
meaning all
and the point of
which lies become reality

reaching out
with black hole hands
is a masquerade
of icy intent

conscious to subconscious
universe to parallel
with mouths of spun woven
that attempt to permeate
truthful goodness

a heart recognizes

the discovery
of ruse to ruins
harms that
are easily swallowed

and what's left
of this thing called shame

(NoPoo 204) Colliding Hearts

Let my love open the door
To realms of beauty unknown
Universal  possibilities untold
Wonderment and awe
Common place

Dreams do come true
Wishes made real
For colliding hearts
Faithful souls searching
Worlds in hope

Creativity given form
Beautiful artustery seen
Through loving eyes
Magic shapes imaginations
Feelings assured connection

Scents

Lavender perfume
permeating through my room
scents of lilacs
teasing my dreams
ember in my heart
glowing in sync
with its beat
spurred on by hope
alone now, with sepia photographs
of yesteryears
rose-tinted memories

cinnamon scented coffee
jostled thoughts
smiling through misty eyes
I remember

To the man who called short poems lazy

when you drive
do you see the car

or the road

a weighted metaphor

A life pressing
down
in doubled gravity—
.
.
.
.
.
.
is a pen
forged, indelible

i'd reply to you shortly mate but i've got a poem to catch

like a wandering fleeting breakaway kite
carried away by the midday draft
i must not lose it's sight for it simply
ain't right
to lose one more...

the tricolor butterfly
stared straight
in the eye
of the approaching beast
unflinching and unperturbed
the appearance
to say the least
confused and surprised
the predator changed course
for today on this occasion
not wise to use the force

the bloom
was left smiling
it waved
beard to stem
the fluttering departure leaving
it with an unforgettable gem

(NoPoo 205) Unprotected

Time fractures
Seconds slipping away
Tic toc
Lives gone
All kinds of people

Nature's balance
In full view
She's throwing the switch
Begining nightmares
It's not funny

There's no protection
At a genetic level
Us mutants don't belong
Take care
Bleeding forms scabs

Beaten generations
Still survive
Like coffee stains
On old worn carpets
Salvation forgotten

littlest things

I miss the comforting
'little things'
the most,

a hand on the small of my back
when walking through a doorway
a knowing look of solidarity
when trapped in erroneous conversations
covering for me without asking
not questioning why
and vice versa

roses for no reason
lilies because
lilacs when you say
you just want to see me smile

touching me there,
where passion ignites
to an almost immediate release
kisses with the perfect amount of tongue

when dark chocolate
finds it's way into the pantry
surprise ramen from our favorite place
surprise sex in the morning,
or in the middle of the night

orgasms instead of arguing
hugs instead of coolness
laughing and more laughing
drawn bathes with rose petals

already folded laundry
dishes emptied from the dishwasher
a gas tank magically filled
perfumed skin riddled in goosebumps
from a massage out of nowhere
messing up the bed that was just made

begging your name,
in husky breathlessness

and dreaming so big
of all the littlest things—

i m a g i n e d

Everytime

it was the moonlight
that carried us away
the sparkling heady wine
sipped by lovers

every time I think of you
saying goodbye baby
it hurts....it was for a day
then, but now its forever

when the sun goes down
i think of it carrying a letter
to you saying good morning
now, nobody's at your door

I am holding dawn and dusk
for us.
