I thought I would start a thread where we can share movie and documentariy links about poets or poetry related subjects. I will start out with this clip out of Cocteau's "Blood of a Poet". I wish I could find the remastered whole version of it, but you know....youtube and copy right....what can ya do?

It's like vintage silent films meet modern cinematography and eclectic music.   Fascinating.  I hadn't seen that one.

poet Anonymous

Ted Hughes: Stronger than Death (2015) was a very touching watch. I very much enjoyed it as a documentary.

Sylvia (2003) - A film about the life of Sylvia Plath.

Barfly (1987) - A film biopic about the life of Bukowski.

The Raven (2012) - A film about a serial killer who mimics the stories of Edgar Allen Poe. A good insight into some of his works here. Interesting twist.

Edward Scissorhands (1990) - while not about anything specific, I find it fascinating how a lot of the artwork in this movie seems to have been the catalyst for Tim Burton’s poetry book “The Melancholy Death Of Oyster Boy” in 1997. It’s interesting to see how the ideas where being formed in that movie.

I watched Sylvia recently...liked it, even though it was very depressing and sad. It's definately one I would recommend myself.

I watched Barfly when it came out. Back than I didn't know much about Bukowski. He himself didn't like it because the character is so different than how Buk really was. I guess keeping that in mind it can still be an ok watch.

I have the see if I can find "The Raven". I am only familiar with the old Vincent Price version.

Love that clip.  I've watched it at least three times.

Didn't care for the film; it wasn't him. Roarke did a horrible job too ( and I Love Roarke ).  If you want to know Bukowski, listen to him recite Bluebird.

I'm waiting for the new Bell Jar directed by Kirsten Dunst.  Her energy is more aligned with Plath, imho.

Bell Jar.... I'll keep my eyes out for that.

I just ried to find something in english about the poet Francois Villon, but there is very little translation into english. He is very well known in Germany and Netherlands. I found only this one here....

He had some interesting things to say about society and politics in the 1800.

I rather liked the movie Paterson which came out a year-or-so ago. Although it is about a fictional poet, it does have a strong William Carlos Williams thread running through it.

The Libertine: a film about John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester, a notorious rake and libertine poet in the court of King Charles II of England.

Absolutely loved this film.
