Admit it:
We want the world to "end". We want an apocalypse, an armegeddon, a rapture, a whatever it takes to shake us out of the jading, boring, unfulfilling routine of our socially responsible lives.
We're overdosing on order and crave chaos to free us from it.
It's nothing to do with any "god". Or "salvation".
Of course we could accomplish this without such catastrophic, destructive upheaval, but.... Well, I don't know what our excuse is anymore.

besides, i think earth could do with a lot less of us humans.
also pretty much the vast majority of all our governments are so fucked the only hope in fixing our countries is to tear it all down and start fresh.
