Poetry Contest

Write a poem about this sickness that's plaguing America
Today, once again we've had another mass shooting in America.  And once again, we've heard the same mantra from politicians. "The victims are in our thoughts and prayers."

Write a poem about how we can solve this sickness.

Like all the competitions, the winner will be decided by a vote.

Here's my poetic vent on this horrible act.

PRAYER NO MORE

Thoughts and prayers
Prayers and thoughts
Who gives a fuck
When we condone
Mass shoot-ups

Time to quite saying
That we should be praying
Stop this assault rifle insanity
And put an end to the NRA’s
Selfish idiotic lunacy

Beware
of the men in white
with their dodgy pills
and their superior smiles
because one day
you might feel the need
to shoot some people
or feed
on some body's face

A Finger For A Gun

“An eye, for an eye,” said
The Lord, and
“A finger for a gun,” said
the new law.

So many souls, exploded
like brilliant autumn foliage, shining
in the sun
as they went homeward,

shedding
the skin
of Earthbound
humanity—

they became free, and
coroners picked bullet slugs
from their flesh, depositing
them into evidence bags.

“Goodnight, sweet dears,
until we see you again—“

And I prayed, because
not praying wasn’t the answer,
and God heard my petition, for
the answer did come.

“Henceforth, to carry a gun,
approval is met upon giving
a finger to
the chopping block.”

Those who give freely,
willingly,
eagerly,
are the ones you don’t arm.

only 3,
whatcha smokin'
less than 9,
gotta be joking?
if you want me
to give two shits
the death toll should
be, in double digits

Lambs To The Slaughter

Just another day in the surreal
watchin' yet another thrill kill
rollin' along on the newsreel
while talkin' heads spill spiel
'bout how it doesn't seem real
all wonderin' "what's his deal"
stickin' strangers with the bill
leavin' 'em dippin' in their own till
payin' for a battle that's all uphill
America again back on it's heels
you gotta wonder, do we really feel
or is it all just piggy squeal.

Perhaps we should have this become our national seal.

No one around we agree to blame
no one willin' to face the shame
pointin' fingers and callin' names
keep on keepin' on, playin' the game
politicians avoidin' the flames
all settlin' for more of the same
showin' we're the ones who're lame
while all along another takes aim

And all that's agreed, is the whole fuckin' thing's insane.

It's time we determine how to fight
now what's become a terrible blight
or is this some sort of new rite?
images that torment into the night
and begin again in the mornin' light.
is it guns or people, which answer's right?
which do we choose to keep locked up tight?
or do we just keep avoidin' the sight?

While another poor soul's forced to take an earlier flight.

The slaughter now comes to the lambs
and you're askin' "at who's hand"?
at who's feet the blame should land?
who's at fault for removing the bland?
instead now havin' us say "Goddamn"!
I say it's all of us, from where I stand.

And if we really want to solve it, start sayin' "I AM"

Are You Down

Silence is the calm before the storm
Suffer in this world above the norm
As I face each day I waste away I slowly fade
Stone cold and being friendly to no one
Chaos on the streets as racial tensions rise
Killing each other because of foolish pride
Well I walk alone within my zone my fears unknown
Strapped hard prepared to take your ass out
Until you realize if you take my Brothers life
One of yours has got to die
Back to the streets as the war begins
Judged upon a skin that I must defend
I know the truth I've been that youth I stand accused
Guilty the end is coming down real soon
Looking through the cross fire I didn't see it
Racist on the inside couldn't release it
Watching as my world dies and I can't heal it
The murder the rape the violence the hate the Brothers in the ground
Well Are You Down...

Stop the Mass Shootings

Lay down every single weapon and gun.
Nobody needs to get hurt or murdered
In cold blood again. You think that the sun
Light feels bad, but it is the un-nurtured
Hate that is much stronger. How can you
Ever prey on innocent children, people
And bystanders? Nobody can feel too
Safe, even in a church, school, steeple
And at a concert we can no longer feel
Protected. Too many innocent lives
At risk. Even the place where we kneel
In protest should be defended. The knifes
Should not stab us in the back anymore.
We are all equals and an end to this war.
