Aura

Haunted eyes, spoon-moons,
loomed
from a cherub face, while
an elder man’s voice
echoed within a boy’s throat.

Did the dead souls, speak
in muffled tones when
the fog came down, and
embraced your static mind?

The triggers were never removed, and
a baby’s hand grew into
womanhood, clicking
the shutter of her camera, trying
to pause life for a number
of moments.

Why didn’t you cry out?

There was no shame in what
you couldn’t control—just
silence in suffering.

The world still turned on, and
electric synapses raced wildly, through
the center of your being, flailing
arms and legs to the beat of
your own music.

I will leave rose petals and lamotrigine
on your headstone, before I, too,
die,
in hopes that you be well.

Anytime , dear AEmelia--'twas my pleasure to write for you! Ian's epilepsy is very relatable, as my daughter spent her early teen years, having weekly grand-mals.
