Edie Sedgwick
(1943 - 1971)

Youthquaker. Girl in the Black Tights.
Warhol's underground superstar.

She had left the silver foil walls, and the pull
of Hollywood, and this earthbound plane long
before I knew I loved & wanted to be like her.

Her skin of powdered rice paper, the
scent of rotting orchids, a drug-induced
Noh dancer with slow-writhing limbs akimbo.

Silver-gilded girl of the moment at the
Factory, that turned out Monroe silk screens
and porn to the drone of a refrigerator.

From asylum to the Big Apple, the
apple of her father's eye and his desires,
she'd sleep among gay lovers, pretty boys

with erotic names of exotic birds, knowing
she was safe for a while as they quarreled
among themselves: who would bring her

chocolate shakes, and chauffeur their princess
to her doctor's for injections
( she was too much a lady to do it herself ).

Until her fingertips became match-heads
setting fire to hotel rooms, flailing from
inside a closet while bellboys stole her furs.

Face of a comatose junkie drawing deep on
filter-less cigarettes ( she wasn't afraid ), and yet
what deeds have you, Edith, what deeds?

But wasn't she fabulous! remembering back
when she and Suky spent trips screaming
from a convertible through San Marcos Pass,
their bright scarves fluttering like kite tails.

In that same wind she'd ride her roan
along the spine ridge of Rancho Laguna
without sense of dominion over the land

with its wild fires that went on forever,
where the ashes of her brothers, and their
self-possessed and possessing father of

eight in his brood had been far-flung
and one day so too would hers be, alone
under shade trees in the valley of Santa Inez.

Noh - Japanese classic theatre
Suky - the youngest sister
Rancho Laguna - the 6,000 acre family ranch
San Marcos Pass & Santa Inez Valley, near Santa Barbara, CA
Actress Kyra Sedgwick is Edith's niece.

I’m pretty sure I would have incarnated as Freddie Mercurty if fortune had smiled on me more. Instead I was younger than the man, passing the years in middle school. The song “Minstrel” is about the highlights of those years.

Minstrel

I was so young during those years
in formative seventies
moving through childhood’s bloom
as the minstrel played his songs

with long hair, fading hippie
nothing really matters under
white silk in under disco lights
in the year of seventy five

hawaiian shirt and cut leotard
looking for somebody to love
the decade so full embraced
in the celebration of two-hundred

time after time in black and white
bare chest with a mime suit
we are the champions my friends
in the midst of seventy seven

bicycles with a country flair
naked riders around Wimbledon
racing with a musical flair
in the year of seven and eight.

babe still a skinny lad
suspenders without mustache
shirt is optional with black pants
fat bottomed girls in seventy nine

minstrel of the piano keys
shooting star in leather’s embrace
celebrating the end of peace and love
at the end of a decade spent.

COLD BLUE SNOW

Purple rain turns to blue snow in the cold
When the Soda troubadour walked out the door
Please God return our music genius back to us
So we can sing in violet spring showers once more

Crazy about you babe

When you make love to me; the world can end and I won't mind

When you are inside me; the fire is so high I can relate to fireworks on my body with high voltage energy

We breath without air, our hearts beating fast sometimes afraid to die due to the speed of it.

Making love to you is more than an orgasmic experience; it is a fusion of feelings and emotions that make me feel alive again.

The Cooler King

I remember watching his movies when I was little,
But I fully didn’t understand them until I was a teen,
I remember his characters, that sort of epic anti-hero,
Iconic roles that must have really lit the big screen.

When I visited the streets of San Francisco,
I remembered that classic car chase scene,
I wanted to be as cool as Lt. Bullitt,
With nerves of steel in a fast machine.

Nor will I ever forget that heroic ending,
When he jumped off the cliff into the sea,
When the tides carried him off into the distance,
With an unending will and spirit, longing to be free.

And maybe best of all was that Great Escape,
The pursuit, the mountains, the landscape green,
And even though he didn’t make it over the border,
The part he played seemed right out of a dream.

And in the end when they took him back to that prison cell,
With his baseball glove and ball I still hear the theme,
Because no one will ever be as cool as the Cooler King,
Nobody will have style or be as cool as Steve McQueen.

Farewell Bowie

"The one distinguishing feature about early-70s progressive rock was that it didn't progress. Then Bowie subverted the whole notion of what it was to be a rock star". – John Peel

Let’s Dance a Space Oddity
And join the refrain

Colossal change agent
Five decades proud
Unique in your glam

Always germane

None uninfluenced
Never of stock

A hero, to be sure
Aided fall of The Wall
Anti-racism
Inspiration to all

Perpetual reinvention
Epic artist in your time
Intellect unmatched
Paid tribute with shrines

Innovator of harmony
New genres unleashed
A loss to the world
Among the deceased

Being a new member I could not post a picture of this amazing, inspirational person. Look for yourselves. He was an awesome man mountain. Sorely missed in the goth community.

“I want to stay away from politics, or else I'll probably end up putting my size fifteen foot into my mouth.”

PETE STEELE TYPE O NEGATIVE

1962-2010 RIP

October rusts under September sun
Hair dyed black number one
Six foot six, porcelain face
Chain suspends a double bass

Bloody kisses on milk white skin
Self-mocking with an ambiguous grin
Cinnamon girls may be just a faze
Ignite it all in a pyretta blaze

Every goth girls erotic delight
My girlfriends, girlfriend every night
Drawn into jade green vampire eyes
A baritone voice that could hypnotise

Selfish hope I will see you soon
Love you to death under a wolf moon
Anaesthesia, I don’t feel anything, last breath
Sanguine addiction, let me love you to death

Her Tragedy: in Haiku

Submission meant for 'You're Always In My Heart' competition.

Little girl in love.
Never wanting to sit still;
thought other men gross.

Huddled together.
Trench coats in dark alleyways.
One too many pokes.

Poison in her veins.
A final kiss goodbye is
just a lie she told.

A camera clicks.
Beautiful her pain may be -
it hurts to look close.
