3.  A loveliness of ladybugs
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f248/jadepandora/a%20loveliness%20of%20ladybugs00.png
Sunflower
(not an entry)

the pale of winter is begun while
I dream of a time long ago...

as a girl, it was a season of romance,
a fancy I was too young to indulge in,

unless you count my affairs
with living things in the grass.

A warm late morning of an early spring day,
sunlight unblinking in my hair,

I was more aware of the moment,
absorbed in my world near the ground,

shared with a hundred ladybugs
drifting in and swirling round

milling across the yellow of my dress,
their wings tickling my bare knees

cross-legged in the lush tender green
and the down of dandelions,

courting me like a sunflower, . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .away
commiserating on my arms. . . . . . . . . . . . . .flew
I asked them to tea and hoped . . . . . . . .all
they would stay until, one by one . .they

#1. A Charm of Finches

Sing to Me...

sing to me
sweet songbird
of summers
green and blue
sunshine
on my shoulders
flowers
fresh as dew
I long
to feel the whisper
of sunshine
soft and fair
gentle, drifting breezes
making halos
of my hair
sing to me
dear songbird
of beauty
wild and free
I feel winter’s
freezing fingers
causing shivers
all through me
warm me
gentle songbird
sing summer
to my heart

12.  A murder of crows
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f248/jadepandora/a%20%20murder%20of%20crows00.jpg

Crow Comes Courting

resplendent in a black gloss
of feathered robes...

crow's morning clicks of courtship
echo through downcast mists that
bead upon bowed shoreline willows

and genuflect in the wake
of his purposeful strut
one hesitant step before the next,

his head cocked this way and that,
listening as distant ticks
message back a reply.

The visage of his agenda
suddenly unfolds in a wingspread
that lifts above a watery canvas,

the guttural sound of pulled
stitching sends love notes receding
into estuaries, and ripples

where tadpoles skip and dart
beneath lily pads in the random and
rapid blink of each tiny vortex

A Murder To The Rescue
------------------------------------

heartbreak for a kid losing baby chickens
in front of his eyes an eagle would nick'em

they were orphan hatchlings no hen had'em roost
they fed on their own no mama-hen to boost

came unlikely friend who's an everyday foe
made the little boy's day coming to the fore

business as usual the eagle was there
an apex predator, with nothing to fear

so it had thought when going swooping below
only to be chased by a murder of crows

they came with their feathers opposite of bright
made the day brighter to the li'l boy's delight

they were there protecting their own fallen chick
whatever the reason it just did the trick

the eagle decided it is not the day
the murder of crows better off kept at bay!

Author's note: A true story, as a child losing baby chickens to eagles and crows but on that day the crows were not in a mood to tolerate a threat to one of their own.

Foxes

Why do foxes scream like babies?
Is it because they’ve all got rabies?
Maybe they are all just cry-babies
But then that’s just supposition and maybes
Do foxes scream, like I scream, for ice cream?
Or are they just letting off a little steam
Or are they having a nightmare of a daydream
Have they heard somebody blaspheme?
Or being caught in somebody’s hi-beam
Or suffering from low self esteem
Maybe drunk on Bailey’s Irish Cream
Or Having Asda coupons too late to redeem
Or sore guts from too much Haagen-Dazs Ice cream
Watching to many episodes of the A – Team
Trying to understand Shakespeare’s Midsummer Nights dream
Impersonating Michael Jackson to the extreme
Trying to groom his bushy tail with Brylcreme
Trying to take a urine sample midstream
Making tea, burning his paw on Kettle steam
Failing to keep to his low fat diet regime
Did somebody burn and smoke his pipe dream
Did somebody drink his last bottle of Jim Beam?
Is he waking up from an unfinished wet dream?
Maybe it’s none of the above he’s employing
Maybe he’s screaming just to be bloody annoying

.2crows.

*

headless crows
under a radioactive sky
mother nature infects
the hollowed sockets
of lidless eyes, b l i n king rheumatic;
let me rest
these cold depths
upon your inflamed lips ~
let me part the butterfly
& spread the larvae
upon my Persephone's nipple
& watch Hades' tongue
sprout featherless wings & weep

*

hush
            l
crows f     y,
violence in your sightless eyes
speak undoubted truths;
ragtown blues down
by the old ~
a silver haired man
lays down his hand
and s p r e a d s riffs
across the fishing line chords
about the \\caged bird// lady
with a virgin white rose
suspended in her jazzy-trash hair
eating strange passionless fruit
from the cavities
of the
headless crows

*

2crows caw                    "CAW"
& sharpen their beaks
and follow [their lord of the dead]
where they are not wanted;
cursed by Samhain.

*not so new

Trailer park girl

the Butterfly around your hollowed navel
spreads its wings and soars through my eyes

silver-plated love blows 30 degrees below dry-ice

my head is ripe for your destruction because
the chisel pounds because you say so, So

when I sleep the monster lays beside me with you

with you I hear painted ladies walking obscure streets,
I sense defeat as I crumble beneath your feet

your “Shh,” calms me in the dark of night

like the stir of winter fog eroding from your after sex cigarette
just as beer bottles break at the bottom of your trash can, silent

A Huddle of Penguins

The other day as I drove with my one of my sons,
The conversation of mates came up,
So I thought I’d enlighten his day,
And gave him this interesting fact:

Did you know that with emperor penguins,
The dad stays with the egg?
While mom goes out to feed dad awaits
Keeping the egg safe between his feet.

And to survive the severe cold,
Thousands of dads huddle together,
Keeping the babies warm,
From the harsh Antarctic weather.

(I really didn’t rhyme
But for the sake of storytelling…)

And this huddle of penguins is so massive,
That if one moves they all have to move too,
You can imagine it’s a complicated maneuver,
So that the frigid air won’t get through.

So I looked at my son and added:

Even though we’re not flightless birds,
You still came from a set of “eggs”

You can imagine his disappointment
When I told him I kept him warm between my legs.

Then he shook his head at my lame joke,
Like a typical twelve year old.
