Hello Old Friend

a little rain this morning
sprinkled on my lawn
received with indifference
nothing grows on concrete

the sun peeped through clouds
peek-a-boo on fluffy cottons
shining through my curtains
reflections on the glass panes

hello day, you are here again
as you were yesterday
and tomorrow, forever and a day
after I am gone, you will bid adieu
and stay

I wish there was something to reach for
someone to talk to or to laugh with
I wish there was something to live for
until they carry the hearse away.

TEMPLE HAIKU RENGA: A New Dawn

一 (ichi)
poised with posture straight
a slave girl ascends the steps
she enters alone

二 (ni)
slowly beats a drum
a voice resonant and low
mantra chants thrumming

三 (san)
breeze before sunrise
brass bells on red cords swaying
chiming like birdsong

四 (shi/yon)
with bracelets sliding
she lowers with fluid grace
to rest on her knees

五 (go)
serene upturned face
she offers jasmin joss sticks
and cultured flowers

六 (roku)
'neath shadowed bowers
ancient sentinel mem'ries
hold the echoed years

七 (shichi/nana)
of a thousand fold
of a billion tears untold
that stay mute at rest

八 (hachi)
with bare neck bowed low
forehead touching temple stones
she mouths new year's prayers

九 (kyū/ku)
in flowing saffron
monks passing in procession
all praise to Buddha

十 (jū)
while the drum beats slow
o'er the sunrise that blossoms
touching mountain tops

十一 (jū ichi)
the gentle one prays
at the altar of rebirth
on this happy day

Love of High and Low

In the morn the pen is held
by happy hand or less than that
it matters not in my heart
the love is there for what I write
afflictions seem to bend my will
even as I express beautyís charm
I continue to scribble thoughts
requested by one beyond the doom.

Though darkness may press within
imaginings of my fevered brain
too long thought to know the way
the words I use reveal the path
if love were only pretty things
life would find the worst to complain
instead I find that the most tender spots
are born by love of high and low.

Lifeís varied fount provides the source
the reason to keep marching on
God has asked me to share
all of creationís mighty breadth
to these I write with greatest love
in varied terms that span the world
from pain to pleasure the globe does turn
each written for compassionís arms.

Shaking off Sleep

the rooster crows jubilantly
dogs bark joyously
the children are all ready
to go to their river bath

one eyes open
and then another
goosebumps from the cold
pulling the blanket over me

a car passes
and another
someone shouts hello
and I am awake

I looked around
for an underground shelter
groan, I don't have one...
until he arrives, the scytheman...

6. Every morning, I wake up saying, Iím still alive, a miracle. And so I keep on pushing. ó Jim Carrey

Living It Well

Like morning prayers, I look at that piece of paper,
I revise the list of goals and ask, what am I doing today?
What am I going to do thatís productive, thatís constructive?
Of the dreams I want to build and love to chase.

In the mornings when the alarm goes off I lie there,
For a few seconds asking myself is today the day?
Will I get the call Iím waiting for or make the calls myself?
Time is off the essence and it shouldnít go to waste.

Iím happy to be alive so Iíll continue to strive,
To find that equilibrium Iím always looking for,
I donít have to be perfect, as long as I have the respect
Of my family, friends and peers, itíll push me to go far.

And farther and further I search with passion,
Seeking the knowledge to enhance my craft,
Applying the principles of a well-balanced life,
Living it well as if each day would be my last.

Every dawn and every day is a new beginning,
Filled with miracles and wonders for me to face,
Itís up to me how hard I want to pursue the vision,
Of the dreams I want to build and love to chase.

A Watchman On The Horizons

I stand with angels
on white sands, watching for God
to paint the skies, new.

Waters pull on stones,
waves and mistóI am alone
to the human eye.

Attentive watchers,
we gather our assignments
as horizons split

with light and color;
I am kept alive, again
for another day.

Leave Me Be

A subtle gesture can wake the sleeping anger,
A whisper,
A sigh,
The wink of an amorous eye
A smile with no regards of where it may land
The gentle vibrations of a waving hand
Quiet!
Leave me be
Let me weep and digest
The acidic turmoil of my broken heart.

Special Love

L O V E, the magical four letter word.
I love the feeling of sunshine on my face
Every day. I love the song of the bird.

I always love to follow and trace
Every letter spelt out ever so slowly.
Life, my darling has never been a race.

I love every full, spiritual and holy
Moment when I can breathe. I love
The feeling of never being lonely.
