Learned at Last

You ask why I seek this fate
temptation set with two involved
when retreat is the safer way
as charms seek to take my soul.
A bird in hand to test the will
don’t let it go until the beast is slain
into its lair it will slink
if fateful battle is not pursued.

Fruit so sweet is the lure
heaven sent is not the source
purgatory is the better guess
to stand your ground is the test.
Pleasure found is not accident
halfway met before the fall
humanity grasps for the joy
when sadness gathers all around.

The wheel turns round, this is true
if not conquered it will return
made strong by weakness now
seek the chance before it’s too late.
The lesson will come around again
whispers ask the stage to slide
abandonment has its bitter gift
as the soul dies in sad retreat.

Hug the angel and spurn the imp
find your wisdom as love demands
with weakness made strong again
with pleasure given rightful place.
A lesson may be learned at last
with honor given to two involved
as triumph is the just result
in sight of realms high and low.

Chances

a chance to see another day
clasped hands mercy asked
a chance to offer atonement
for deliverance of sins

an act of contrition
eyes towards heaven
tears coursing
forgive me father...

the rites are spoken
the oil on the forehead
a mark unto eternity
he wants a chance to say goodbye

a chance, a last chance
have mercy on me
on my soul

he opens his eyes

smiles at his wife
his children...and the angels
surrounding him
a chance, he had his last chance...

"Through this holy anointing may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up."

he sighs and leaves.

Overtaken by Events

We’re often overtaken by events;
‘We didn’t see that coming,’ we complain.
But  gods of Fate are deaf to our laments
And heap upon us earthquakes, fire and rain.
We curse our fate, we shake our fists and cry,
But all to no avail - the waters rise,
The ocean heaves, the fire falls from the sky,
Our houses are engulfed before our eyes.
Some see it as a judgment for man’s sins;
‘Repent!’ they cry, ‘forswear your evil ways!’
But even good men die when Fate’s wheel spins,
And Death takes no account of pious praise.
So don’t let future fears bring you despair,
Just hope that when the tree falls, you’re elsewhere.

Dreaming of the Ocean
.
I dance on the waves
to an un-metered aire
letting chance and
happenstance be my captains
.
the waves frolic
to and fro
churning order to a froth
'tween them

DID I SAVE THE WORLD JUST NOW?
(half a chance)

A black wand in hand while an attack of
incoming star fighters bear down on earth,
a wedge of them, miles wide
pouring from the mother ship.

I spin, dip, and let go an assault
back into the TV screen.
The view changes, showing a city
where aliens approach overhead.

CRUNCH! POW! KABOOM!
I shout with each thrust,
then dive forward into the screen
where the explosions become deaf'ning

blinding mushrooms, clutching
the black wand as I swing,
finding myself at Lakeshore Drive on
Lake Michigan, the wind blowing cold.

And alien space pods come in flying low,
lasers fire from the north where I run to
fending off rays raining down all around.

Suddenly I stand my ground, pointing at
glinting spacecraft with a wide arc; the
wand glows & spits, taking them down,

wiping clear the sky as the population spills
out of highrises, panicked & screaming in terror.
M'gawd, what did I think? I haven't a chance!

But still I push my way through and stand with
feet apart as I see the object of their hysteria;
robots towering half the height of the
skyscrapers on Lakeshore, lumbering my way!

I throw streaming trails of napalm, letting fly
as I fling the wand with each pass of
dripping fire that melts them down,
metal turning to lava heading to the shore.

I finally look around, blinking and breathless
at the living room furniture, still clenching fingers
'round a smoking wand as the screen shows
the mother ship going down into Lake Michigan,

and wonder aloud. . .

DID I JUST DO THAT??  No chance!!

Second Chances

Life throws you through a loop when
The one person you try to walk away
From is back where you both have been

Before. No matter how you try to stay
Away from him he keeps coming back.
The truth is that he knows his way

Back to you always. He gets you off track
And your mind wanders again. You give
Him another chance. You cut him slack.

You try to never experience and relive
The pain again. Although a part of your
Head and heart is saying no you forgive

Him anyways because he is far more
Than the guy you just simply forget.
He still brings you from that rocky shore.

He wants to play your favorite cassette
Because he knows you and will win
Your heart. I hope to never have a regret.

Chance

I've been given the chance of a lifetime.

Once or twice....or most likely many times... So many times you'll never know.

But when you came, you decided that this chance game was just a right back, that you took back.

Imperceptible baby blue you were new and I so wanted you.

I left the golden state trying to negotiate our enormously perfect lives.

Didn't know you upheld it all even now.

You're still the best chance--right back, that you took back, that I ever had.

Presence

Tell her what your heart feels,
If the spirit moves you,
It behooves you to be honest with yourself,
Once you let your emotions out,
It’s sure to soothe you,
For the truth, as they say, shall set you free.

Declare yourself to her,
Let the sensations flow and imbibe,
As sure as you’re drawn to one another,
As sure as your orbits will inevitably collide.

Give into her completely,
Lay all your cards on the table and let it ride,
If you never take a chance, you’ll never know,
You can always go your way knowing you tried.

Delve in with your might,
You may just get it right and maybe even succeed,
But at least you’ll know that you gave it your all,
You’ll be one of a kind and of a different breed.

Try as hard you can ,
Rather than be left on the sidelines wondering if,
For when the spirit moves you you’ll take action,
When the attraction feels like the edge of a cliff.

Dive in, the water is deep
And you’ll swim in the ocean of her essence,
A surreal pleasance in the commotion,
And it’s all because of her…

The only card on deck- chance

Its a new leaf a fresh start, to turn right on the wrongs.
After living, loving, being battered and shattered... you are reincarnated into a different being a new skin, soul and life.
To breathe a different air a more crisp one with afresh start...you eargerly anticipate the incunabula of the chance given.
