Poetry Contest

Take Ink to Scroll & Scribe A Steampunk Poem

http://steampunknovember.com/wpimages/wp8d43a485_06.png

The Prince of clockwork & steam
here with invites you to a copper dream
Take but a moment from your day
turn the gears & bearings of Google to display
The meaning of this artform held dear;
provide for a tea gala, without random fear
Your best attempt at Neo Victorian artistry
in words filled with technological visual imagery.

This invitation shall last thirty days
Ending in announcement of bright shiny trophy (no pays)
Set thee eyes through looking glasses
provide an image & title that passes

These invitations are far & wide between
so you must be special, if you're on this screen
Be wary to work a valid form;
provide poetic justice to face a clock to be born

For queries and questions place ink in a scroll
sent through a pipe, paid in toll
addressed to the adjudicator of this competition
The Prince of DU's Steampunk Revolution

Definition

Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.[1][2] Although its literary origins are sometimes associated with the cyberpunk genre,[3] steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West", in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power. Steampunk may, therefore, be described as neo-Victorian.

Machina

Gears on fobs grind
sentiments
from lace-lined pockets in
my skull;
hemispheres of imagination,
and invitation,
for recreation--

You are invited
to see
the world through steam,
as it seems
to me--

We shall have tea, and
watch
as metals melt
and meld
into sunrises of gold
and chrome,
before the Death Clock
chimes it's last,

within the walls.

Lol--anytime, Al ! Trying to catch up on writing, now that I'm done teaching in the classroom for the semester --just driving around checking on my students on clinical rotations in the hospitals, so I dictate into my phone while I drive

Won't You Please

From the iron works of my mind.
I invite you to drink comfortably from the cog of warm longing.
Steel beams and steel rods set in heavy slant.
From block hats to angler clothing.
I invite you to the splendor of ships sailing across a mug of spewed oil.
If only for a while to delight in
Iron plates along with nuts bolts and other various knick knacks.
With handles attached to the back of our necks we'd gladly suffice the steam filled cups, the ticking of grinding gears.
Oiling the pipes of gentle longing.
Behold the giant structures wrapped around glass eyes with shaded tint,
Metalized lens and hydraulic jacks enticing fascination,
Here
Between the clock towers of umbrellas and block hats.
All is quiet.
Oiling the pipes that crave but a simple thirst.
Watching the steamships sail across an mug of oil.
Taking turns sipping from the nape of bolted necks and mechanical hands.
Please won't you join me

Thanks for making this competition, almost ran with a free form poem but this rhyming one seems better as it required effort, shame about the length? (That's what she said!)

It needs it's length; that scheme & meter is a technical bliss! (she didn't know what she wanted anyway!)

There are definately no limitatations on entries here. I hardly have a cue of corsets and suspenders, yielding metal pass buttons screeming past the concierge at the gate. ; )

But we'll start filling the boilers and lighting the burners anyway.

;)

I have a different heart

tik tik tik
and a click
and a twist
and a swirl
in my brain
giving all
sorts of
thoughts
how my soul
is sold to the
underground
lord, so... I can
survive in this
fuckin hell hole
with an unending
hum in my head
and my brain is
made out of Lead
rust in my face
combust when
I pace and a
lust is a phase
that lost in time
in my mindless
mind, my copper
gears are rotating
backwards after
your face flashed
into my fish lens
everything about me
is a mechanical art
but behind this
chest plate is a
different heart
