‘Twas the night before …
and the cocaine dribbled and dripped down My swollen throat.
My cock thrust again and again into her gaping gullet,
and I shivered … awaiting the numb deluge of sticky bloat.

‘Twas the night before that,
that My heart was stolen by this vicarious vixen—
this dangerous heathen [witch] My dick’s in.

‘Twas the night before.

Twas the night before we were to part
Her journey was to break my heart
She had decided to go away
I could not persuade her to stay

Was all our loving in vain
Will she come back again?
We shared a bed for near a year
What has she got to fear?

I'll miss her body and lively mind
She has a instinct to be kind.
But her departure is so cruel
No good reason; I feel a fool

In our bed before she left
We caressed breast to breast
No mood to fuck her like a whore
Because twas the night before.

Twas the night before my death
Sadness ruling me from within
Making me want to die
Making leave this world
By my own blade
For twas was the night before

Scimitar Bride

'Twas the night before is when I saw you
deep in the crowd at my place where you looked
like you were lost and no one knew your name.

I recognized that you would be my bride
with I as host to such a prized event,
and I would make you mine in blooded own.

I never cared for made-up vanity,
the blondness of your hair had sable roots,
your bite was fixed, your wisdom teeth were pulled.

A bump was taken off your Roman nose,
your thighs were lipo'd, and your tummy tucked
but all I want to do with you... is fuck.

My way was nothing like you'd ever known,
I blew your mind and then I cut your soul.

The way I loved you with my scimitar
was in its blade to bare your heart to me.

And with your final gasp, the flowing gore,
the last you saw me 'twas the night before.

I, ALONE

'Twas the night before
And in the wreckage, I bore
Weight like the ocean were above

In my grasp, she was ethereal
Pale before, khloros today
And I was trapped in the grey

Birds sing a morning song
But what am I to do so long?
So long it will feel wrong

'Twas the night before
You faded into weeping trees
Longing for the gentlest breeze
A rhyme for lost time
And the morning rime
So unhealthy was the fixation
Maybe need a vacation
Need to stop thinking

'Twas the night before
That night froze over
For there is no sun for me

I am left standing alone
Above you, I mourn
I, alone
'Twas the night before

Thank you all so much for your entries.

I write the majority of my poetry in rhyming couplets and when I conjure the words I always have the rhythm of "'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house" in my head so poetically I have a deep connection to the line: 'Twas the night before".

Congratulations to mysteriouslady on winning the competition. Short and sweet, I liked the grunge-like quality of the poem and the flippancy in using the phrase, which for me was reminiscent of those times we say phrases like "ages ago" or "last week sometime" - just showing how imprecise our memory can be. But this poem took the phrase further to give it an 'amnesiac-like' or 'blackout' feel.

Thanks again to all the entries.
