Poetry Contest Description
Base a poem on Pink Floyd, either one of their songs or Syd Barretts journey into madness. Try to use as many lyrics as you can.
Lyrical Mishmash
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day,
Have a cigar, dear boy, why don't you stay,
You can't have your pudding if you don't eat your meat,
Oh by the way, which one's Pink?
My hands felt just like two balloons,
In this rock'n'roll refugee,
I turned to look but it was gone, I cannot put my finger on it
The child is grown
The dream is gone,
Shine on you crazy diamond.

Thought I'd something more to say
Breathe, breathe in the air,
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about,
Racing around to come up behind you again,
For long you live and high you fly,
And after all we're only ordinary men,
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day.
Look around and choose your own ground.
God only knows it's not what we would choose to do.
So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking.
Run, rabbit, run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
But in the end it's only round and round,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
And when at last the work is done
For the want of the price of tea and a slice,
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you,
And all you touch and all you see is all your life will ever be,
But only if you ride the tide.
The time is gone, the song is over,
The poster bearer cried.
Breathe, breathe in the air,
It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about,
Racing around to come up behind you again,
For long you live and high you fly,
And after all we're only ordinary men,
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day.

Drinking Narrows Reason
I roamed
The minds of the few
In narrow land
Where dogma burned
A bonfire of credo
Lit by torches of ignorance
I felt mans pangs of consternation
And pules of defeat
Sharp in my tummy
My affinity ached
The few were so thirsty
In narrow land
Fear ruled
Kept pedestrian logic in chains
The many hoarded equality
Bacame fat devouring sovereign fruits
Ennui turned and reached
I felt the cold grip of tyrany
Its plump fingers
Struggled to choke the singular
To suffocate Autonomy
And the scuffle became war
In narrow land
The thirsty drank desire
Until quenched by this elixer of hope
The few fought valiantly
And they were mighty
I roamed
The minds of the few
In narrow land
Where dogma burned
A bonfire of credo
Lit by torches of ignorance
I felt mans pangs of consternation
And pules of defeat
Sharp in my tummy
My affinity ached
The few were so thirsty
