Poetry Contest Description
With so much going on in the world, we could all use a little hope
With everything going on in the world we could all use some help. So write something up lifting. Give hope. enter as many time as you want, how ever long and what ever style.

DOVE
( a non-violence modern English sonnet )
I'll never understand the need for hate
By those who can't believe in simple love.
Who try to make all people rue their fate,
To seek to silence evermore the dove.
The world has always been embroiled thus
Between the nations, countries' armies fight,
With euthanasia to be rid of us.
The ones who make it, homeless in their flight.
Bequeathed from those who die in innocence,
Their hopes. in vain, that generations thrive.
Instead, the senseless killing of vengeance,
Where terrorism learns to come alive.
When will it come to pass that love is all,
That ev'ryone should rise, and never fall!

TAKING AIM
( a non-violence modern English sonnet )
It never changes through the ages, life,
To dwell upon this in a comfort place.
Our world is more & more obsessed with strife.
When sadness settles in one's dreary space.
What Lennon sang in song, happiness is,
These days, even for crim'nals on the run.
Of ev'ry single kind, both hers and his,
But as for me, I'll never own a gun.
Let's try and change the way we'll always be,
No matter where I am, north, east or south.
As for the west, I'll abstain for a fee,
So sayeth I, when I "shoot" off my mouth.
Please learn a thing or two from what I say,
It's not worth getting shot on any day.

Hope
hopes are baits
on fishing rods
borrowed by the farmer
to entice the donkey
hopes are thoughts
of a better tomorrow
rain for the wheat
water for the horses
hopes are faith
that jumping down the spring board
One land on water not concrete
and have a joyous swim
hopes are bouquets
of tenacity perseverance
will power to continue
where some give up
Hope.

Words Unnecessary
I was drinking coffee and wondering
what kind of world my daughter will live in
when she's my age
and the tears welled up in my eyes
as I watched her play
God felt so far away
then she walked over to the screen
kissed the cheek of a crying little girl
on a charity ad for starvation
she handed her bottle to the television
and the light returned

Lotus and the Mud
©All Rights Reserved
Pungent, sticky, putrid and mucky
Slimy waters devoid of fresh spring
Cold surface under the shadows
A palace of wet, dirty abode.
From it's heart blooms pink
An eye catching pure spirit
With strength so great
That no darkness could fade.
Clean soul resides in it's heart
In darkest hour, it remains intact
Fragile skin and tantalizing petals
Can't hide that lurking femme fatale
The Lotus within us will always be ready to fight
Waiting for the bright light to fully bloom in might
Hope is the path that we travel at night
Leading to a morning that reveals a beautiful sight
Each of us at one time or another
Would go swimming in the dark
Mad face dirty and full of mud
Vile taste of bitter marked our beginnings
Like the tensile flower we would survive
Ugly scars would in time be the art
Reborn in timeless frames
Of the canvass of our so called life.

She's young at the age of nineteen,
But she aged a decade wearing her cheap lipstick.
False eyelashes and dark mascara,
that hides the cheerful nature of her spirit.
At times she pretends that she's a princess,
Waiting for her prince in her castle sidestreet.
Maybe she missed her own fairytale,
Maybe she just had to create
one for herself.
It's late at night and her stomach aches.
No prince in periphery, no money is forthcoming.
She thought about her golden cot,
Maybe she'd loose it if the landlord can't collect.
As she was about to cry
A sedan parked and open its window
How much for the rest of the night?
The owner asked behind the wheels.
Will a thousand do, for anything?
Mentally you jump with joy in your heart
A thousand bucks would rescue your cot and your starving belly
And maybe you wont need to work your sidewalk for a while.
For a little while, you can be a princess
Without makeup nor heels
Without care for customers
Without whoring your way to full tummy.
And as you and the sedan guy drives off
You keep thinking of ways
On how to spend the due amount
Not noticing where he's driving off
For a thousand bucks
Who cares if he takes you
From hell and back.
After all, we all need to eat sometimes.
(a hopeful heart for the starving doves)

Playing in the Rain
The minute the rain hits the pavement,
I found entertainment,
Look out the window like 'Ah shit',
Witness me strip down to my draws
cannonball into this water reservoir,
It's hard to stay dry so I get soaking wet,
I needed this to keep my emotions in check,
I guess I will keep floating till I forget,
That before i was in over my head,
So I keep my baggage on land,
As I watch each wave break upon the sand,
I feel no pain as the droplets of rain drain off my hands,
I embrace nature's message as I stand,
in and endless expanse of water dancing,
I am amazed... what are the chances,
Nature pressed play and I am in a damn trance like dream,
where i am jumping in streams and making a splash,
after I open all of the taps I can finally relax
but in a flash like lightening blasting it will pass,
so I leave my freighting actions back in the past,
i find peace at least as this moment lasts,
but really, how did you expect me to react?
I make my own path and quit following the script,
meditate to awake inner bliss,
high tide is great i love to swim,
bad vibes levitate gone with the wind,
my mission is to be my own best friend,
through a new vision i may transcend material ends,
i said it before so I'll say it again
happiness comes from within,
never dismiss what is inside your skin,
we just may persist through all the bullshit that this life gives,
trials and tribulations make the mind fit,
so I commit to transmit experiences,
in hopes it just assists just one of those kids,
who are scared of the world that they are living in,
Till they witness people playing in the rain,
i admit it is strange what it takes to wash out the stains-
our environment shapes our brains,
so don't complain just embrace the rain,
forfeit the shame and give it a page,
absorb the pain we coming of age,
remain at the top of the game as the clouds fade away,
how could rain change everything..
..if only for a day.

Lemonade
Comfort and change never occupy the same space,
So I suffer in hopes I may find some grace,
I discover in this place colors are quick to fade,
In the space that remains nothing seems the same,
I am afraid of my own name,
Afraid to play this game I helped create,
I can't just wait for aid to make it,
Evade my mistakes,
I can no longer fake shit,
That was yesterday's fate,
Aimlessly complacent,
I trade the shade to carry my own weight,
I am gaining patience,
A renegade against my old ways,
A new phase with a new cadence,
I will lay down the spades,
I can’t wait for the amazing,
I will jump on the grenade,
No more training,
So I may say,
Look what I am making,
You can call it lemonade,
I call it breathtaking,
Life gave me pain,
I stopped complaining and..
Began changing.
Now I know life is for the taking
I know nothing good happens over night
But I should write something,
A few more precious lines,
I never understood how to reach fantastic heights,
If I could take that galactic flight,
I would fall like a meteorite,
That would be alright,
I guess even success is finite,
I guess I even need stress from time to time,
So I may describe my life inside in these rhymes
If I survive this climb even I will be surprised
I hope I reach my prime before that last goodbye
Surviving in slime just doesn’t suffice,
I want to design my lifetime from the inside out,
Beyond the shadow of a doubt,
I cannot go on without myself
I cannot settle for a shell,
I need something else,
Something serene I believe,
It starts and ends with me,
Yeah, something I can achieve,
So I can fall asleep easy,
I find relief only in being free,

I'm not sure if you care and if so that's ok, ignore my post. I wrote this poem 2 weeks ago and it's about the ability to keep going, because there's always hope...
-remember the rain
lest we forget our way once again
don't be afraid to laugh with the thunder
and remember how the rain always
gave us new reason to dance
tempting lightning to deliver its sunder...

BREAKING BREAD
(a sonnet)
What’s wrong with Kansas? Less than we had thought
The Lord does move in ways perhaps unseen
Too often cops and crowds seem battles fought
In Wichita, they chose a different means
Instead of helmets, clubs, and riot gear
The cops manned grills with dogs and burgers laid
The protesters then put aside their fear
Both ate and danced, that’s how progress is made
Too long we stood as if it’s us and them
Spent too much time in making foes of friends
Too long our little diff’rences condemn
Spent too much talk defining hostile ends
I hope this shows when all is done and said
It’s easy to join ranks when we break bread

NOT SOME
i want to see faces
with no traces
of the places
they're from
you're from here
i'm from there
this isn't fair
its dumb
my castle is tall
your portion is small
get against the wall
you bum
we shouldn't use pigment
to lable indignant
our souls get maliognant
and numb
if we could build paradise
it would have to be nice
don't even think twice
just come
violence will stall
prejudice will fall
there will be justice for all
not some
