Poetry Contest

write a poem or song inspired by a work of Stephen King
Nothing gives me a greater hardon than a good Stephen King book.

The Rules:
1) unlimited entries
2) 50 word minimum
3) must be titled
4) Follow up your entry with the source of your inspiration - title of book, short story, novella, etc written by Stephen King or Richard Bachmann.
5) Entries can also be inspired by any film or mini-series adaptation ( with the exception of The Lawnmower Man because that movie wasn't an adaptation ( and it really sucked balls ) ). Follow up with the title.
6)  Certain films and mini-series that weren't adaptions to begin with, but King had a large hand in making are also viable inspirations. Examples are Sleepwalkers, Maximum Overdrive, Storm Of The Century, Kingdom Hospital to name a few. Follow up with the title.

You have 30 days.

The Guest Judges will be:

AEMelia, thank you for kicking off this competition.

I actually prefer the televised mini-series over Stanley Kubrick's ill conceived adapation. It was much truer to the book.

And may I say, welcome back.

Broken Soldiers

Take the fire from my
hands
and the water from my
heart;
let the wind wear away my
eyes
like waxen saints in
church.

It hurts
no more, when
I need not, the
sand
beneath my soul;

Feel

the flood—
it comes when
love
is gone,
and an unnamable emptiness
swells like
Napalm memories
and litter-lined streets, for
the excitement of the parade
is over.

Innocence departed, and
so did she,
in search of a place
to hide from time
and its grasp—

but John died,
to the envy of us all,
for he never had to find what
lies in mirrors
behind us,
staring back at our hollowed
lives.

(Inspired by "Hearts in Atlantis" and the theme of the Vietnam War within the book, and the empty feelings of a lost generation, touched by the war)

SISTERS

Our father's hatchet's running red,
His daughters, we, live with the dead.
Hello, come Danny, play with us.

Our pretty party dresses' torn,
Our finger-curly locks are shorn,
Become our friend, become unborn.

What fun we'll all have as we race
Around the hotel floors, to chase
The naked ladies' dinner dates.

And finger-paint the vacant skulls
Of rotted bodies by the score
From bloodied walls of corridors.

And skip across a hangman's noose
As we both turn the rope around
To make you choke without a sound.

You'll never have to worry dear,
When winter comes this time of year,
The Overlook is nice and warm.

- - - DEADLIGHTS BURN IN DESPERATION - - -

The clock strikes doom
When she crawls to me
At Four Past Midnight
The Deadlights shine
Better within fear
Won't you please join us?

  we all float down here

Burden me with a Bag of bones
Draped over my shoulder, colder
When this Nightmare becomes Dreamscapes
I hear them calling, them knocking
Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers
Steadily knocking on my door
On this cold night, the Graveyard Shift
Spooks come out in Desperation

sometimes human places, create inhuman monsters

I Stand 'fore the Sematary
Haunted by a Skeleton Crew
In darkest grip of Night Shift
Gunslinger statues draw three cards
The sparrows are flying again
Sense Misery in Dreamcatchers
When those Needful Things fail to please
The devil inside made me do it

  sometimes dead is better

Fire her up
And let her run wild
Drive in with Christine
Finest smell in the world
'Cept maybe for pussy

  sometimes they come back

go then, there are other worlds than these

(c) 2016 Frank Green

I included numerous titles. This wasn't inspired by just one piece of work. I wanted to include as much as I could.

Misery

The chilling crunch of bone
shattering under an impassioned hammer
should've made his scream curdle something
the writer
himself innocent but i
a bitter reader
projected
directed my own rage towards the pages
of disappointment I've endured

and the sad reality of the brilliant character maker
was smaller than any admirer wants to witness
his words ripped away and his happy place stolen

he and his pen
they bled together
trying to become immortal

Baby blue, how beautiful to see.
Gages tounge is about to be.
From dogs and cats and birds they breathe.
Just hike the trail to Pet Cemetery.
They say they're dead,Ha,you watch and see.
Indian spirts set them free.
Doom to you, to ask them freed.
Forget your home. Now pack up,you'll see.
You owe rent for what you seeked.
Hurry up now Gage is waiting. For he says Daddy come home now! I am hungry.
