I wish I had an idea for a poem. If I get one I will post. Just wanted to say that her story is heartbreaking. I always saw my name as being empowering. When looked at as a devil you must become beyond what others think.

Savage eye

lets talk about words and phrases, and books and history and how weak we must be to allow ourselves led by the words of an obvious psychopath:

"All propaganda must be popular and its intellectual level must be adjusted to the most limited intelligence among those it is addressed to. Consequently, the greater the mass it is intended to reach, the lower its purely intellectual level will have to be."  - zee Hitler

but then, we are, are we not, all led by someone or something at one time or another.  if not, then why not ? we'd be fools to think science hasn't worked out manipulation of a populace, at least to a large extent. which begs the question: how many strings have been tied to your fingers, hands, legs, thoughts, mouth ? how would you know ?

the simple answer is " fuck off, you mad bastard " because its not worth thinking about.

to be perfectly honest, i knew nothing about Sierra Leone until I watched a Hollywood movie based on events. it'd be easy to throw words like 'savages' and 'beasts' out there, but then one would have to look at where those monsters came from in the first place, and on some level we've all tied some strings onto the hands that chopped limbs off with machetes, and onto the young fingers which squeezed the triggers and onto the appendages which raped the women and children

because " Diamonds are a girl's best friend " ..how many times  have you heard that, or read it ?

how  many times have you looked into the eyes of a female who sang along to the lyrics asnd saw that at least for those couple of minutes she actually believed it ?

are they though? ..they're a lot more expensive than a man's best friend:  the humble dog is loyal, trustworthy, emphatic, trainable and of much general use when needs be. a true friend in every sense of the word.

can 'precious stones' be blamed on all the madness which occurs in that particular region, course not. who's to say how things may have turned out if not for colonial conquests, slavery, pillage of resources. however, one cannot overlook events or indeed fail to compare the plight of African nations to that of other nations which have been privy to such attention from 'civilized nations'

the lady in the video points out on a number of occasions ' lack of education' lends itself to a lot of the problems in terms of superstition and in general terms of living standards.

the girl in the video, her skin looks a bit like a diamond has reflected little flecks of light on it. p'raps she is a metaphorical devil's child, an omen if you will

you're all very welcome

A Prayer For The Souls

We are what we believe, and who
has told you lies
of condemnation, that stuck?

We are Children of Light, not
sons and daughters of demons
and imps, and when they walk behind
your pews, accusing—
cast them to the dry places.

Cover your ears, lest you hear
some untruth.  Avert your eyes
and guard your heart, to not see what
makes it break.

Immerse in the oils from the
baptismal font of the Most High, that
you may slide through the narrowest
of doorways, meant to entrap and
smother.

Rejoice with each season of shifting and
let it sift away, that which holds back
the inevitable Kingdom on Earth, as
it is in Heaven.

Tears are not enough, but they
are a release—a letting go of that
of the former, washing clean the feet
of the Disciples and Saints, that we
may walk into the anointed,
blessed, promises.

Had I the ability,
I would lay hands of blessing onto the speckled neck of the danseuse.
While my tears anointed the devil's head, I would prophesy a fairy tale for her.

For her story has been true Jesus to me—
And with her wounds—
Moved me a small pace closer to the Buddha.

Thank you all for your great entries thus far ...

Over the weekend I watched the documentary FIRST POSITION - a film about the trials young dancers must endure to succeed ... Simply magnificent kids.

So I feel miserable on my chair
I curse the unmistakable scale of justice
They made me contractor of the unfair
A cross I have to carry and mortise

The awry mold that  made me I'm trying to chisel
I wonder which Olympian god watered it with his anger
Forcing my soul to quit and my hair to grizzle
Paid with immortality, mental pain and hunger

But I can see an aerial and I am wide awake
I color it with inner strength and my long gone hope
All choices that defined me and which I didn't take
Became a stairway that led me at my very own world's top

There is no dream that can't be true
There is no revenge that can't wait
No one can erase the flame in you
Reverse your mother f****g fate

To eternity fathers
To yourself and to others
You are lost
You are found

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

I am not involved directly
with her suffering but rather
we are all involved as the
collective humanity, that things
such as this could be allowed to
happen to another human being
marks all of us with the stain of
guilt

The Devil's A Ballerina

Girl's got a smile just like those fireflies
dark sighs dancing in her eyes,
nothing ever seems to stay the same.
Scars have painted a horror scene
that you and me have never screamed
and dare to never, ever dream again

but you preach love
as below, now so above
the sky has born an angel's face
on this stage, your holy place.

The Devil's a ballerina twirling
a light that shines
when heaven's burning
reminds me of a time
I chose to try...
for love will never, ever be
a far off distant memory
it's made of her, and you,
and me today

but you preach love,
as below, now so above
the sky has born an angel's face
on this stage, your holy place.

You slept with one eye open
on a bed of Earth and blood,
these men they came to take her
and left her baby in the mud
and I will never understand it
when liars choose to fly
to get their kicks on easy picks
as tears lay down to die...

but you preach love
as below, now so above
the sky has born an angel's face
on this stage, your holy place

but you preach love
as below, now so above
the sky has born an angel's face,
on this stage, your holy place.

the flapping, frayed  faded, fifty percent off flag
said today only
surely another diamond
should make my
soul less lonely

the epitome of greed and should be shunned by anyone with even the smallest heart......

devil child

Would I ever escape the "curse",
and the machete that cut my womb

where the child of myself would
never grow inside of

but be conceived instead from the
love of what was left of my family?

Those that survived, who always
believed in the true one.

But only in a fairy tale.

Yet, the devil child dances, floating and
reaching gracefully for a place I belong,

swathed in the sunlight of my silks that
spread out from me like wings

as I soar over the darkness that I knew
for so long. To fly, with my toes on point,

yes, to be free at last! to fly towards,
and not away from, ever again.

One of the most amazing things I've ever seen, this beautiful woman who overcame such obstacles, and brought me to tears (but not of sadness) when I watched and listened while she danced as if it was what she did before she even knew how to walk.  Thank you for sharing this video with us, dear.  I wrote my humble little piece in real time with the first viewing.  <3

Ever Forward in my Spots

I am learning to be me in my spots
Spots that once branded me as different
In a world where differences bred fear
Where fear bred hate
And hate bred such violence
But that very violence that cut me wide open
That could have left me torn apart
Brought me here
Here I have found love
Love that breeds trust
Trust that breeds faith
Faith In others and in myself
Through faith in myself I learned to dream
Through faith in others I learned to show my spots and move gracefuly in them ever towards my dream
Dreaming this bravely has made me proud and now
I am learning to wear my spots just as proudly

(Beautiful video and story. I incorporated my own experience with Michaela's. Thank you for sharing that Lobo)
