Poetry Contest

Tell me what went down the night a poet got their hands an AK-47
The Inspiration

The idea for this comp was inspired by a revelation in the forum that legendary DU poet, mikimoondancer slept with an AK-47 under her bed... the idea then spawned into me singing "I want my A-Kay" to the tune of "money for nothing" by Dire Straits, then the video happened...

"I want my A-Kay" video: http://youtu.be/l8_LsWL6DwE

The Challenge

I want you to explore the possibilities of the unlikely union of poet and an A-Kay.

- watch the "I want my A-Kay" video to get yourself in the gun loving mood, see link above
- write a poem, prose or prose poetry about you and your AK-47
- 747 word limit
- one entry per poet
- new poems only

The Prize

One poet will be offered the opportunity to have their kick-ass poem made into a spoken word video, using the audio and visuals from the "I want my A-Kay" video: http://youtu.be/l8_LsWL6DwE

Great video Alex.  Only thing wrong it was to darn short.  It ended before my popcorn was finished popping in the microwave.

I think I'll throw back with something for this, before taking a spring brain break from DU.

.:AK-47:.

poets
pray and
have preyed as
they’ve sprayed and
displayed

for the
zillionth time
we’re in the
shooter’s arcade

no mending
no mercy
for
targets today
while the targets
check grammar, then
stumble away

that muzzled flash, the
piercing pen
playing at god
write to the
end

Peaceful poets are pussies,
..Me?
..the way i push a pen?
comparable to an AK-47.
330 a.m. a pounding at the door,
3:31 a round enters the chamber,
Rack that bitch loud,
so now who is the danger,
I will knock your socks off,
Give you a gushing face,
Kalashnikov,
Russian made,
A percussive array of kinetic energy,
No discussion i am not afraid,
I got a unapologetic poetic display,
put body to grave,
now, please..
back away.

Put The AK A-Way

don't need no AK to get the pay day
I write a rhyme like a land mine and they play pray
never to let me loose with my words again
they know I got the juice for that gin
they can't handle my fire so they jump the fence
who higher than God, Amen, they bend
where's the knowledge that frees one from bondage
that sets the sight straight and burns the karma
if you pick up the AK you let go of the holy armor
blood doesn't need to be spilled to get points across
a poet who uses violence has lost his wits and balls
and a poet without grit is a mystery without the mist
they can come with artillery looking to bloody fulfill me
but I still choose the pen over the gun
keep the change in the chamber, spend the 47 once
AK to all strangers looking to do damage to my character
fear no petty gods, allegiance to no aliens
the AK is for those that don't celebrate
the pen is more powerful, my poetry meditates

I shall enjoy this competition from the sidelines. Not really an A-kay fanatic, since the suicide the rate is boosting the lovely gun in my country.

But the competition sure does sound fun.

the night an AK-47 got its hands on a poet

was not much different than
other nights we bury
in the world is a grave
full of guns are fun
caskets for sale

safe boys bunkered down
behind keyboards and screens
killing pimps and ghouls

lost boys ripped from sleep
to see their mothers and sisters raped
their fathers chopped to pieces

a new family of AK-47's
to keep them warm at night
in steel and blood and screams

YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO TOUCH IT

Hey baby!
Don’t run
I know you’re turned on
By my AK-47
Assault weapon

Go ahead
Stroke it
But be careful
The rapid fire rate
From the long stroke piston
Can really warm up
The top op rod mount
And muzzle flash suppressor

That’s it!
Forefinger flick switch
Rapid fire selection
Watch the rate of ejection
And see the muzzle rise

My high velocity
7.62 39mm loads spit
7.9 g. projectiles
At 600 rounds a minute
For deep target penetration

Don’t overlook
My double drum
Dual magazines
Just Underneath
With their high capacity
We’ll shoot with ecstasy
Till infinity

Just try to contain your bursts
In controlled meter
So we can rat-a-tat-tat
Some damn good street rap

Girl, you take the recoil so good!
How do you like the sensation
Of a masculine ejaculation?

Now admit it
Wasn’t it fun
To jackoff
My Kalashnikov?

Inspired by the Marine Corp gun prayer.

Sorry about the delay, but I just can't make a decision lately, until I get my personal message from the WebMiss, asking me to decide on a winner. It's that personal service with a smiley eye that keeps me coming back.

Well, here's the final decision. I asked the "I Want My A-Kay" starring vocalist, Missy, to help choose the winning poem and we both agreed that it was a very close call between Semaj and kriticool. Both deserving pieces in their own way, but Semaj's potent last stanza was hard to beat. So congrats and well done to you both and thanks to the gun poets who had a shot at the comp.
