The doctor will tell you to keep breathing
Though these words can be so misleading
And your heart feels so uneven
Shaky because your eyes are bleeding
Call it rain

The doctor will tell you who your real friends are
Tell you that it's not ok to have those scars
But you wonder who do they think they are
They haven't been through what you have so far
So the scars tell a story that sets you apart
More misleading words for that uneven heart

The doctor will tell you that they care
They have no blood that you share
And this is your first time actually seeing them
Yet they care
It makes no sense and is so unfair
For a random person to say they care
But someone you've known forever isn't their
Not a shoulder to cry on
No wonder your heart is uneven

The doctor will tell you what you did wrong
Care and be there for you all night long
No they don't know you but helped you
An unaware therapist you'll never forget
The  uneven heart will be straight yet

My mistake, forgot to show which line I took.

Sorry, I saw peninnah's poem, wrote, then went back and read Emo's work. I have quotes from both.

"You are vodka
and I am still pretty [hung] over"
                                         -peninnah

The small man
coddles her little birds now, and they sleep
no drunken thudding stair-steps
no ear-nipping curses
knocking their unicorn dreams
They play their days without hushing
from the guard dogs of dozing giants
and still say their "please" and "thanks"
without another sermon

They miss her touch, though
the one they've known forever
and the big boy babysitter that was close to being 'step-dad'
their climbing frame, shoulder ride, dinner chef, story-time
and night-time nightmare safety

But they're better with the small man
away from examples of "sweet-girl" defeat
[though they never see]
that say
a big boy who loves me
can shove me, repeatedly
into bathroom tubs, sinks
physically tear
my shirt to tatters
throw furniture at my head
blame me and stress for all of it
and I'll forgive
with resentme-
                  resilience stored in my spine
                  for the [no]next time
when it'll all be over and done

They haven't heard
[and pray they never do]
a big boy's wall say
a few scratches on her back, hah
least I never hit her
'cause if I did
she'd be dead

And may they never know a big boy's tears
to lull them
into perceptions of a pedestal
may they ground themselves in senses,
hope, and chance, but not with chains

And may the small man
who couldn't fix his family when it was there to mend
show those little birds
every day they're not with her
that they are strong, and they are more
and they can fly

Shall We Be Toddlers Again?

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/monoliths-paranormal-project-2-untitled-20070807044812054-000.jpg

We knew no meaning of words
So words weren't able to hurt.
We drew no promises from words
so it never did burn.

we knew nothing about
all the shouting and yelling,
we just panicked as the thin
walls vibrated.

we grew sad as mother suddenly
disappeared,
and we became closer when we found
Dad between buckets of beers.

Broken glass on tile floors,
like glitters making a pathway to the back door.
We walk to it, though the glitters turn red,
you started crying as our feet both bled.

The neighbor with the funny hair
and drum smelling clothes,
took our hands and said, "let's get the babies
some cleaner mini-bows"

He attached it to my hair,
and his hand traveled up to my no-no place.
I pulled you behind me, and grunted a thanks
as some thing change on his face.

It happened too fast,
the chill that traveled up my young spine.
I had to protect you,
but I didn't move in time.

Door was locked and we were flooded in dark.
You screamed, and I attacked.
I never felt the little blade sink into me.
or that you had stopped all the screaming.

I let you go, and you floated straight into
the light.
I sit here and I still don't mind,
that I was chosen to be
left behind.

But if we had another chance,
though I believe it to be insane.
Maybe it'll be different,
so shall we be toddlers again?

(I wrote this, then saw there was a page 2 - so, maybe a disqualification for that, but... I like this piece, thought it worth sharing)

Quoting from:
"YEARNING FOR MY LOVER.
My brown eyes await in awe to behold the sight of my Leander.
Under the mighty tree of life
On the banks of the enormous Oguta lake
My breath pants in search of his.

Heart throbbing counting passage of every second
Arms wide prepared for his aromatic embrace
My body writhe in anticipation
Aching for the warm of his bronze skin on my almond flesh.

Like the leaves swaying, moaning in ecstasy from the caress and whispers of the wind
All systems are in harmony set to press play
Ready to lose my identity, decency and virtue to the chords of the secret song known only by him and i.
I yearn the return of my lover from the tropical fields, across this stream of raging waters, into my sanctuary."

DARK WATER

On the banks of the enormous Oguta lake
we buried the dead,
we buried the memories
of the living, and the dead.

The Black Scorpion scuttling
On the banks of the enormous Oguta lake.

Oh goddess,
oh Uhamiri,
we see you in the mists that rise -
thin fingers grasping at the sun
to pull it back
to your embrace.

To warm the living,
and the dead.

On the banks of the enormous Oguta lake,
Uhamiri

Standing, ankles wrapped in water,
golden comb
and promises in hand,
for the living
and the dead.

On the banks of the enormous Oguta lake,
Adekunle stands
wrapping his hands
around the throat of a goddess.

He will shoot at anything that moves

On the banks of the enormous Oguta lake.

He will bring the living,
to the embrace of the dead.

A Whisper on the Wind

an encoded breeze exhaled
secretly sent
a whisper that can shout
if you listen
blowing across time
spanning the entirety of
all things soaring
once upon a rainbow
painted only for your eyes
now the clouds hang low
nosily eavesdropping
tuning out all but the breeze
lose yourself in the draft and feel
the whisper
tickle your ears
reminding you
i'm here

my line, the title, was taken from the poetry of Lady Peninnah Nganga
(peninnah)

as it took me a while to get back. thanks
