Poetry Contest Description
Quote, poem, or prose either of yours or of someone else... :)
"If I read a book and it makes my body so cold no fire can ever warm me, I know that it is poetry. If I feel physically as if the tip of my head were taken off, I know that it is poetry. These are the only ways I know it; is there any other way?"
- Emily Dickinson
"By poetry we mean the art... of doing by means of words what the painter does by means of color."
- Thomas Babington Macaulay
"Poetry provides the one permissible way of saying one thing and meaning another."
- Robert Frost
"Poetry is that art which selects and arranges the symbols of thought in such a manner as to excite the imagination the most powerfully and delightfully."
- William Cullen Bryant
"Poetry is simply the most beautiful, impressive, and widely effective mode of saying things."
-Matthew Arnold

"No good can come of this thread. Poetry is as loose as water, committing to defining it is absurd, and when quoting, use the em-dash or double hyphen."

A view on the poetry I for write for myself. old piece of mine (hope it applies);
Spitting Pen; Swallowing Pride
my pen spouts and spits
finely worded
paper thin pleasantries
obscenely obtuse insults
and halfwit half-truths
over virgin pages
after fellating the dictionary
there's no poetry
just the want to weave walls
out of streams of consciousness
to cower behind
just the urge to drain thoughts
into a vast vapidness
before it clutters up
my self-assured hedonism

Isn't that the beauty of poetry? That it can be interpreted in so many ways by each individual that enjoys it? Those thoughts and emotions stirred are poetry in themselves.

Poetry
Nobody
Can fully
Understand
Someone who planned
To understand
Without the hand
That wrote it
Cannot de-code it
This place is devoted
At creating exploded
Thoughts of individuals
Spots within the ritual
Plots that are still integral
In their positions
Winning permissions
Sinning envisions
Grinning conditions
Sigh..
Interpersonal
They just words and all
Some are absurd but all
In all
Everybody is awesome
It's great to see words that blossom
Nobody
Can fully
Understand

Poetry is the drug which everyone craves yet does not fully understand its high. Poetry is the escape of ones body into a better life. Poetry is the exploration of ones sexuality and creativity. Poetry is the mental disorder that people experience for a few seconds. Poetry is the cycle of life and death repeating itself in nature and words.Poetry is the darkness people give you a glimpse of. Poetry is complex philosophy. Poetry is the art of war with words. Poetry is the world not censoring itself.

I am a Prophetic Poet. I choose my words very carefully. And my poems are brief. I never like to make them long.
I like to make them strong and stalwart. I love acquiring new useful and poetic words. What is poetry? Poetry
is body language in words. I hope someone understands this. I think it's quite profound and profuse. Amen.
