Here's a little sample:

Shrouded In Black

The footprints in the packed snow, laying out the hidden crime
Through blanketed forest, good place to hide.
A few droplets of blood are left, the only clues
For those whom seek to learn the truth.

No one sensed her missing or heard cries in the night
A heinous vision hidden from the light.
They were a group of thirteen shrouded in black
That drug her along the moonlit track.

She awoke in a clearing,
The frost packed ground,
The sound is so dreary,
Above, thunder resound.

Ritual pentagrams carved deep into the trees,
Whispered curses lay upon the leaves.
The thirteen laughed at her twitching screams and throes,
Such joyous cackles reaches out in flow.

But they did not seem to noticed her reshaping form,
Ripping fangs, blackened fur, claws sharp as thorns.
She joined in their laughter but only at their bliss
And in that moonlit clearing
She dealt them the devil's kiss.

As they stood in the clearing,
The frost packed ground.
The scene is so dreary.
Around, screaming resound.
Then there came wolf howling,
Standing in trees,
The she-wolf starts prowling,
Behold crimes of the beast.

I took an old poem and completely reworked it from start to finish. This competition sort of sparked a creative revision.

The Dream catcher

Ragged coat, rugged throat,
coarsely groans from a haggard bloke.
"Black birds black birds I hunger at this evening.
“Come hither from your nests and stay
“So I may steal a meal to feed me.”

Despite his calls no bird would peek
For who’d respond to those who speak
Of eating those of which it seeks?
Regardless, the haggard man repeats,
"Black birds black birds I hunger at this evening.
“Come hither from your nests and stay
“So I may steal a meal to feed me.”

The bloke continued on a while
Wandering as he spoke,
Taking sticks to shake the branches
In attempts to get them riled.
If a flock were flames he was sure to stoke
Some tempered crows because his antics,
Until at last feeling quite defiled
They took flight to taunt the bloke.

“Ca-caw! Ca-caw!”
the black birds spoke
“Go home you foolish man!
“You can’t expect to steal a bite
“If you can’t reach us with your hands!”

The black birds tittered making jokes
As the haggard bloke would stand.
“Come back when you’ve gained some height
“Before you make commands!”

Smacking lips, saliva drips,
hungry moans, the bloke spoke this,
"Black birds black birds I hunger at this evening.
“Come hither from your jest and stay
“So I may steal a meal to feed me.”

Despite his calls the birds stayed meek
For who’d respond to those who speak
Of eating those of which it seeks?
Regardless, the haggard man repeats,
"Black birds black birds I hunger at this evening.
“Come hither from your jest and stay
“So I may steal a meal to feed me.”

“Ca-caw! Ca-caw! Again you say
“You want for us to greet you
“Just so you can take a bite,
“You must think we’re really stupid!”

Then the bloke made reach in haste
And snagged a bird, then two.
The flock was startled by the sight
Of two arms stretching through.

The haggard bloke had made his grab
And dragged two unlucky winners.
He starred them down and with his lips he smacked,
While drooling to his dinner.
“Pleased to meet you, how do you do?
“Well surely better than can be said of you.
“If you couldn't tell you're now on my menu,
“I must now bid you adieu.”

Beyond The Portal

What awaits beyond the portal
where fire burns at the door
souls wander near
as their names are called

a lone soul a stranger among many
walks towards the portal
within the fiery door
she looks in, in fear

there she sees a distant mountain
serene with snow capped peaks
and a lake of tranquil blue
reflecting a sky of azure

she wants to walk into it
her body is old and broken
she does not want to go home
she wants to go beyond

she glimpses men and women
children boys and girls
young, pretty and healthy
walking in beautiful gardens

Not time yet, return says the voice
reverberating through the heavens
she wakes up on her bed and weeps
she is still sick and broken

she wants to go beyond
quiet she waits
on her sick bed.

hover

Won't you let me sleep?
Stop carrying the moon away
I see you waiting beneath the maple tree
Pink as sin, spacecraft hover glow

How simply you stand
With a smile paint can't capture
A soul too sly for rapture
Sauntering in my disaster

a sway in a branch
a scratch on my face
Visions in night clouds and birch bark
They're just hanging on my halo.

Macrocosm managing
Channeling Euripides
Pulling down the fantasy
Our blanket for reality

It stretches in vain
Scanning and seeking
Voluminous and ominous
Black triangle occluding starlight

Never Ever landing
just a toe touch in the primordial lake
and voices left dancing in maple leaves
from lips and tongue caressing, confessing
Drawing every aching ounce out
of what little we have left.

this poem is based upon greek mythology and the figures from them, enjoy!

i run through the woods
here the bull racing behind me
foul breath, human half
Furies above
leather wing, glowing eyes
another enemy catching up
an eye that will keep glowing in my dreams
the gods are against me now
the arrow of Apollo
whizzing by my head
the lightning of Zues
peircing by my feet
i feel Hades watching me
sticking to the shadows
time seamed to slow
the titans have joined
this is the power of Kronos
Hypirion sets the world
sunlight bright
the rams horns of Krios
light up the back of my mind
the giants are all but absent
i cannot stand it
cannot run any longer
let the monsters over take me

The Night... The Darkness... And The Truth

look into the night
and hear with your eyes
listen to the sounds
and see with your mind
within the dark
the dark is alive
let go of yourself
and see what you find

you can listen close
and hear with your ears
or close your eyes
to see what is near
sit still in the dark
and see what appears
let loose of your mind
that is shackled by fear
and finally see
what is happening here

open your heart
and trust what you feel
and know that the feelings
you feel are for real
plead with yourself
that the pain is surreal
so maybe with time
you can finally heal
and look for a way
you can start to rebuild

look into the night
and see what you hear
the sounds in your eyes
only muffle the fear
the screams in your mind
as the darkness appears
will tell you exactly
what’s going on here
as you stand in the dark
and the darkness draws near

the things that you see
as you look at night
the fears that you feel
that bludgeon your eyes
maybe nothing more
than tricks in your mind
that keep you from searching
for the much needed light
and cast shadows of doubt
that help keep your eyes blind

Backwoods of Mississippi

'The night will come when the dance ends'

The spewed sperm of the bellowing river
tumbles and crashes through mystified dwellings
coiled entanglements of coagulated roots
festering sinners into unholy labyrinths

Arawak's shaman of black voodoo dolls
red cocks of mocks at burnt doorsteps
witch's wish bleeding ravine of scorned pins
with serpentine forks chanting oafish venoms

Perpetual curses flowing rancid droppings
from sweeping skies of hoofed spume crests
the yore river harboring unfathomable secrets
revolts milkweed of gravy into virtuous Bay

The forest moves
Breathing in and out
Hiding a lost soul
Keeping its secrets in deep
High in a tower
Far from sight
Lies a dark, dark
Mystery of the untold
The secret to the lost
The key to the hidden
The story of vanity
The truth of beauty and its price
What one will do to get it
How Rapunzel truly came about
How the darkness consumed her
Swallowed her up
Taking in all her insecurities
And using them against her
Finding her night
Taking the lives of innocent
The forest eager to help
To hide this evil lurking
Deep within it branching grasp

I See It

The rising moon
The crashing waves
Take me away from this desolate place

A sinner could never be a winner
I'm no survivor
I'm just tired

I'll die in the dark
With my black heart
And cold eyes
I was dropped her
Because of my young disguise

The dancing trees
Settling in the cold yet mesmerizing wind
The constant chills of hard times
Just wanting you to let them win

The water is toxic
Worse than my touch
I'd die if I drank any
But a drunk is a drunk
Leading the worse to the water
In a dysfunctional order

I cover my eyes
Close my mouth
I'm trying to save myself
But don't know how

Between sirens and ghosts
The thing that terrifies me the most
Is my imagination
