Forget every word you ever learned in judgement
let go of the lessons any writing class taught you
sit down with a mind, open to another's
and read each line with respect for where it comes from
think about what you are reading
til you feel it
until you find it
that write that smacks you silly
lands in your head and feeds you something different
go with the emotion, it's the reason for the writing
and if it has no real message
screw good punctuation
there are those who'd swear
it comes down to skill and proper usage
but, I can tell you, straight up
that's bullshit!
you give that trophy to the one that stands out
makes you remember what poetry is about

I can't speak for everyone else but I was under the impression the competition trophies were poetry related. But i just found out i have a trophy today that was for critiquing so i could be wrong.
I'm not even sure how to justify my argument, but I'm not sure I need to.

Miki's poem was not in accordance with the competition guidelines, and is therefore ineligible.
Technical writing is a necessary form of literature
that should not be disregarded with prejudice, especially here,
on a member-based poetry website where it is so rare.
Technical writing has outlined the basis for understanding
in all poetic forms of literature,
and technically requires a specific artist of science to prepare.
I personally, welcome it in a manner similar
to inhaling clean, oxygen-rich atmosphere.

I find it ironic that the first (and probably only) award I will receive on a poetry website will be for technical writing, and what is dumbfoundingly more ironic, is that with it comes animosity from other poets.

Hmmm, how to give someone a medal.
Maybe ask them to use a haiku
to describe the mood colour
that their muesli breakfast left them in,
followed by a limeric
that makes jest of that time
they took 13 aspiriin
whilst crying in to wash basin
because Simon got to name the new dog
'Jennifer'
