Poetry Contest Description
What do you think the end of the world will be like?
Here's the same topic as in the Superheroes vs. Villains comp, but for everyone this time, (including all Superheroes and Villains ). Write a poem about the end of the world/Armageddon, as you see it, or how you think it will happen.
One week, one entry each, any style, length (just not overly long)
Enjoy!

APOCALYPSE NOW
The virus escaped from our lab
We do not know if it was deliberate
Or an accident, just that the dying started here
On a bright day in June, with flowers everywhere
The germ jumped from one to the other
Killing in one hour, a bloody painful death
The army and bio-hazard were quick to come
But they too were decimated one by one
The Prime Minister declared a state of emergency
Implied the enemy had done it, just like a politician
Used the excuse to bomb a country that had been misbehaving
This caused the Russians to go into combat mode
While the Chinese pulled out all their secret weapons
New York City was nuked by a bomb so clever
The buildings remained and a few crazy sick humans
Then Korea released another weapon to kill the crops
Started a famine that quickly spread from one country to another
Stampedes for food and water depleted local resources
The leaders called for calm while stocking up their bunkers
People rushed for their homes, stepping over the dead
The roads were at gridlock as people died in their cars
The subway worked until every driver died
Somehow some of us made it to our houses
Hearing screams of the dying and fearing for our lives
I made it home to find no husband, no children
No lights, no TV, no electricity, outside there was mayhem
People were running everywhere, before they dropped dead
I went to the basement and took some pills and alcohol
It did not kill me, my husband came home
Raised me from the blessed sleep, cried about the lost kids
Every country was bombing every other
Every country had people dying from the plague
This was finally Armageddon
But not exactly the way depicted
As the holy book said.

Goodnight World
The ferris wheel
is in black and white
I can feel
the air is tight
as it turns
under a solar eclipse
that still burns
now the day is night .
Slow motion sounds
echoes of a fist
that pounds
lips gently kiss
goodnight to a done sound
we're all dead
hello hell hounds
hydrated heads
implode to a new found
earthen beds uproot the
soil of black
as bones walk around
into shape they crack
judgement day
is abound
there is no way
of ever going back

Thanks for the entries, so far, Kitty and Diddi! (ok, that rhymed.... LOL!) Let's hope DUP stays afloat, and no more crash-and-burns, so we can keep on with the poetry business.

The Final Symphony
We all stopped to look and listen
as the dark sky turned white and
resonated a serene angelic melody.
But all stillness was blown
by a single strange roaring thunder!
Emerged from the mist of burning snow,
a dark light guided an army of starving ogres.
Their watering mouths growling, howling;
their evil reddish eyes hunting for my kind.
We all ran for our lives and hid ourselves
behind the remnants of our wrecked vessel.
The echoes of the screams and cries
of my beloved people after the blast -
created by that huge unidentified ship -
abruptly stopped with fear of being seen.
I can hear my heartbeat.
I had to be strong but courage
was wiped away by their eerie shrieks
as they tramped to search for us.
Trembling and gasping in terror, I closed my eyes.
It all faded but just for a while.
Like employing the whistling wind as its refrain,
the vile music continued.
It’s chorus-
the screeches of my people
devoured one by one by them,
beasts from the other side.
I knelt and prayed…

I thought I posted it but it got destroyed so here goes again....
(Astral-Death of Our Galaxy)
The scientist looked upon the Heavens in fearful dismay.
For approaching our planetary system was a horrible fate.
Giant size 1/2 mech 1/2 bio monsters filled their fearful gleaming eyes.
The sonic cries from this coming army shook the ground, all the buildings,
and even the skies.
They were the Warlords of Nibruion Collective bent on our planets utter
collapse. It's destruction would produce energy that would help them
continue life throughout their paths.
They would begin by melting the ice caps flooding the world with tidal waves. Then with special machines they boiled the oceans cooking all life until it was the blood life of their evil make.
They would crush all the cities and tumble them into ruins. Crushing the feeble armies that challenged them. It would be our final undoing. Those left it would torture endlessly using smaller humanoid size drone. To teach a horrific lesson that they were actually here 1st and we were never alone.
It was in this discovery that as the final days drew to a close. Our planet was terraformed and now ripe for their picking. An apocalypse they have always been ready for and known.

The red light of their eyes cuts the night
Seeking those that still have life
Death-cold fingers gripping weapons
We must fight for our right to live
In the darkest night you feel the fear
(Termination’s close)
But for the dead, don’t shed a tear
(Or all is lost)
Stomping through mountains of death and bone
Destroying all ahead, house and home
Smoking heaps of those that were once loved
But a lone scarred figure rises above
Prophecies of man are told
From land to land
Of a time from young to old
Of a new age
Rise up! Fight!
Don’t give in
Stand with me
Rise up! Fight!
In the darkest night you feel the fear
(Termination’s close)
But for the dead, don’t shed a tear
(Or all is lost)
Down in the ash you seek the path to another day
Around, the fires burn, smoked obscures the way
Hand to your mouth, you must forge ahead
Break free of the chains, take a breath again
Machines fill the skies, block out the sun
Don’t give up, the day is nearly won
Fight with strength and with honor
Day is ours, now raise the banner
In the darkest night you feel the fear
(Termination’s close)
But for the dead, don’t shed a tear
(Or all is lost)
Down in the ash you seek the path to a new day
Around, the fires burn, smoked obscures the way
Hand to your mouth, you must forge ahead
Break free of the chains, take a breath again

Ok--I know DUP has been down for a while, but I'm gonna close out both my comps with whatever entries are in them; will be too confusing to extend for entries, given all the confusion of late, so better to just start fresh with new comps! Congrats to Hades, and thanks for entering, everyone that could before the crash--great job!

I wrote this piece for this comp. but sorry for me I'm late already. I'm still on the road, so to speak, awaiting for my flight back to MD from Vegas. Allow me to share it with you guys.
Shadows of Windswept Past
Haunted by shadows of the past--
the present, not so promising;
my future lies in the beacon of clouds -
the only arm left in my hidden armory.
Turbulence in the skies--
stirs the clouds of uncertainty;
economic depression looms overhead
as if tomorrow would never come.
Endless wars and genocide--
seems to me the times are not a changin';
prophetic words of Dylan held close to my heart
for so long, until now.
Holocaust and genocide--
kins of mass killing and destruction;
global warming and famine--the end
of days - is it not far behind?
Accumulation of wealth--
fueled by corruption and greed;
how far and how low can you go
just to satisfy your ego?
If we don't change our foolish ways--
the future would drown in a sea of doom;
nothing would be left behind,
not even the shadows of our windswept past...

Thanks Vic! Hopefully DUP will be good to go and minimal downtime in the future!
