She Smelled like...

She always smelled like gum, cigarettes
and the best perfume I've ever breathed
well, all that plus tequila and weed
but every time she'd go to leave
put on her jacket and fumble for her keys
it was that damn leather that got to me
always had me begging..no, please stay
please, but she'd always leave anyway

She smelt like gum and cigarettes..

that ice queen I met at the bar.
Not even a flame thrower of napalm.
Could begin to pierce the armour
surrounding her fortress of this crystalline
heart.

So I continued to smile and ask her if she
was around from this area.  She threw her
nose so high in the air.  She said "I told you
to leave earlier and now how dare ya!!"

So I was like its cool......no huge deal.
Didn't know this was your private bar.  I
would still like to finish my drink..

She said "I will finish it for you!" and
poured it on my head.....Then she handed
me some gum.

I was like "What's this??"
she said "You don't look like a smoker your 2 wet!"

-product placement-

she smelled like gum
and cigarettes
and stuck into the carpet the same way
i never could wash her off
the upholstery

breathing in her toxins so long after
who knew?
i can't trust pink
can't forget stains

vanish
seems like one lie too many

"Venom Dude"

He smelt like gum and cigarettes,
drove a red Chevette,
not a cherry-Corvette,
a scary guy.
There's something
creepy about him that
makes your hair stand
straight up,
tear-tats decorate both eyes.

Uglier than local-sin,
he's a superstition-legend,
you can't win against him,
he'll drop you quick,
like a snake,
he's full of venom.

He cruises around town
with the AM-radio blaring
and cracked windshield,
uncaring,
let'em pass fast.
With the broken-windows down,
he acts really strange,
juttin' his jaw out,
groovin' to the loud-tunes,
he's not a swell guy,
deranged,
driving like
a bat out of hell.

But, don't
clown around with him,
there's no doubt,
he's got serious clout,
he'll drop you quick,
like a snake,
he's full of venom.

He smelt like gum and cigarettes,
I still can't figure out
what the chicks see in him,
he's one sick-dude,
a heart full of hate,
14 words, eighty-eight.

she smelt like gum and cigarettes
and being a ruthless non-smoker
before it even started it was already over

he smelled like gum and cigarettes
maybe that was why i was so mad
two of the things i hate the most
combined and entwined together
in one fucking asshole
maybe that is why i kicked
his face into the side walk
and kicked him repeatedly
in the stomach
i would have won regardless
but perhaps if he had posed
less of an assault on my
olfactories i'd have
been less vicious

Mother To My Grandmother

She always smelled of gum and cigarettes—
That’s just the way my Grandmother gets
From spending her days eating Almond Joy bites
And chain smoking packs of Marlboro Lights.

I drop in twice weekly to change her sheets
And help with whatever else she needs.
Most times I’ll put her laundry away,
Clean the refrigerator and throw away

The liquefied lettuce and deli ham
Left to rot behind the cans
Of Mountain Dew and half-filled plates
Of partial meals, Gram never ate.

At eighty-eight, her appetite
Has steadily gotten far more light
And occasionally Gram’s mind slips away
With a touch of dementia from day to day.

So I talk her through her hallucinations
And thank the Lord for our relations
That have allowed me to have her all this while,
Though sometimes I must speak to her as if she’s a child.

I drive her where she needs to go
And even painted her apartment, you know;
The Desert Rose walls and curtains, floral-swirled
Are what Gram’s always wanted since she was a girl.

And when the man in her stairwell who doesn’t exist,
Comes to serenade her with music of bliss,
Gram gets agitated with each of his songs,
So to calm her, I tell her to smile and sing along.

He smelt of gum and cigarettes
finger tips stained yellow
and his tooth hangs on by a single root

he shed his skin
and put his bones to work
to stay clean and safe
to end up with cancer anyway

but he cares not for what we think
or how and when he will die
or for our perceived notion of
"what a man should be"
is

hanging his head low
he can't look into the eyes of the alive
can you blame him?

She smelt like gum and cigarettes
nicorette to be exact
said she was sick of smoking two packs a day
I am bad influence on her
because I smoke weed
Hey bitch I don't mix tobacco with my joints

He smelled like gum and cigarettes
His eyes red and low as he forgets what he regrets
I hate the scent
Money on drugs it makes no sense

An older brother so I neglect
and disguise it as respect
I want to rip him a new intellect
but I'll forget

Soon he'll sneak in
with his mind slightly weakened
everyday is his weekend
i'll see him, but pretend to be sleeping

Till his knocks on my door sound like drums
he'll enter my room and I'll offer him gum
