Promises Made, Promises to Keep
Poetry Contest Description
Write about the above subject.
Rule 1: Write a 200 word poem on the subject stated above

Forever
I swore to never let go of your hand,
I said, I will stay with you till the end.
I promised to keep you warm, when you are cold.
I kept my promise all these years we grew old.
A last ray of light falls through the curtains in my eye.
I smile at you and slowly whisper my goodbye.
You bend forward and try to soothe my pain,
you gently kiss my droughty lips, it's not in vain.
I muster up the strenght I've left to tell you how I feel,
I want to tell you "I am sorry, I couldn't fulfill our deal".
You seem to read it in my eyes and tell me, it's enough.
I want to talk to you, but all these words come only as a cough.
The promise made was something I knew I couldn't keep,
yet I tried so hard for you.
I see your face and slowly drift into this endless sleep,
I hold your hand and stay forever true.

Counting years from now: 14
But my lungs contract and hurt when I don't smoke

Brown leaves swirl in the breeze
Forgotten headstones lay between the trees
Bygone eras
fertilizing the grass
I've found the stone amidst a jumble of weeds
A promise has kept me to where this road leads
A solid oak towers frowns upon my intrusion
With, heavily, tattooed trunk, speaks of our collusion
There's the hart I carved
The very knife waisted in its scabbard
The words lay bare for the world to see
"Matchless"and beneath it"u and me"
My days as soldier has finally ended
Though my inner turmoil is yet to be mended
The letter came three years to the day
A simple piece of paper
All our dreams ,scattered they lay
Revenge promised at the end of my rapier
My chest hang heavy with medal and brass
Too many men I've sent pushing up the grass
My body riddled with scars
None to my empty heart compares
High with child you hugged me close
Whispering in my ear forever yours
Memory has me torn faced
Wet streaks where the tears traced
"Promise me you'll return to me"
"They'll never take Me" I answered in glee
I fed of that silent need
To heed to answer that plead
Yet here u lay forever stilled
With hollow glory I have returned
The poison in my belly well churned
Soon ,soon my love we shall be returned
Sightless my eyes glaze
As my soul leaves this haze
They found my lifeless body where it lay
And could only but muse at the broad smile on display
It's sad really..
I made a promise to keep..
I made one to you
And to her in my sleep..
No more drugs,
No more blades..
No more will
The happiness fade.
I made those promises
To make you two smile
Though it was killing me
To give in all the while
So the pills I now take
Are for a different reason
And suicide I wont attempt
Though it is in season
I made a promise to you

Wrapped tightly around your waist
Promise in the hungry way
our bodies entwine
And the momentum of our harmonious
Sensual dance
You said you heard promise
Not from the words I spewed
But from my body which
spoke it out in volumes
in the fluid release of vibrations
You said holding me in your arms
The spark has been ignited
a Promise made will exist
Promise lay within me
A small beam of hope
inside the darkness
Of a broken spirit
Seeking purchase, seeking light
Promise struggle to find the might
A promise to keep
Through doubt and disbelief
Through pain and tears
it finally emerged
from it’s darken shell
Nine months later
I finally held Promise
An eight pound baby girl
a promise of your seed
so freely given
This Heat Gets To Me.
I promised, once,
that I'd never leave her completely.
She never knew I made it,
but I find it's one I'm keeping.
I recieved a toy for her,
the day I knew she was gone.
After she was buried,
to the toy, I held on.
It's the only way to feel her,
without standing on a grave.
For the toy, I'm grateful,
as the heat drips off my face.
I wish I could hold her,
or rock her to bed....
Still, atleast I have something,
and it's the promise I kept.

Promises are idealistic
Promises are never realistic
If we promise and we fail
Our soul has made a great sin
Knowing this, GOD commands
That once a year we take a stand
And swear to HIM and all our congregation
To never be put in that situation
For in order not to sin
Do not promise to do or not do something
Instead you must follow 613 laws
Which will guide your every move
From rising up to setting down
You must do what GOD says in the HOLY BOOK
We are but mortals and emotional at heart
It is easy to promise something just to keep the peace
It hurts a person when you renege on a promise that you made
So I do not make a promise I cannot keep.
