Poetry Contest

This is a line taken from Walt Whitman’s poem entitled ‘The Beach at Night’. Write a poem on your interpretation of these words, what emotions they evoke in you: what they remind you of: incidents, past or present.
1: place your own title
2. not more than 200 words
3. no examples: just your creativity and thoughts.

Normality's Negative

The hovering white reflective disc
in the sky
emits second hand solar rays
through a dying victims eye.
Jugular leaking crimson
as the sillouhetted perpertrater
hides from the detremental sun.
The feeble wind pipes its softened lament
deathly statues flash around
the ground
carved in brittle , black
and bloodstained cement.
White seas black sands
another life is cupped
in frozen death grasping
pallid hands.
Underground
negative
blood syphoning world
of life terminating
ill fate
when colonies of befanged immortal statues
find their feast
they don't equivocate.
The sad profile of a withered victims shell
lies inbedded
in dampened dark sands
which make up the beaches
far and twisted from the reaches
of normality's man.

"My Heart Looks to the East"
by:  Eric L. Boddie

American made and American raised
God Showed me this Earthly Life is just a phase
Of His Eternal Design to find Perfection in one like me
He Gives me Love in hope to inspire me to choose Him as my Destiny
And as the summer breeze finds the autumn sky, winter is soon to come
And with the Second Coming there is Eternal Spring to deliver us beyond
Selfish pride, material desire and the many other hinderers of the heart
The negative use of Love's abuse can only produce hate from the start
In the game of Life, you can fight as a knight or be reduced to a simple pawn
And that is why my heart Looks To The East for the Second Coming of the Rising Son....

- An Ancient Song -

As I was watching the east, the autumn sky,
I did behold the colors of the late afternoon.
The sun’s golden hue: where hawks oft fly…
Until the coming of the night, and the moon!
So fleeting is that span of time, ere the dark,
When fireflies, like fairies, flit to silent music.
You can hear it, if you listen well, and hark…
An ancient song: greater than a noble classic.

No mortal hand could compose such sound.
And not one voice, could lend to it a beauty,
Enough to do it justice where muses abound!
Listen well, to the grandest divine symphony.
Every star had its’ origin in it, made to blaze,
By no architect knowable to the mind of man.
They will burn eternal, unto the end of days!
When the cycle turns anew: time’s soft sand.

In each heart, a spark of that divine grandeur,
Fashioned like starlight, burning like embers…
Waits to be found, by a pure-hearted seeker!
All we need do is to reflect and to remember.
So falls the night, and the crickets sing a tune,
With beauty all its’ own, ere dawn rises soon.

Venus sunset

Vacant existence amongst normality
Alien in the mirror
Walking and living, living in delusion
Summers end with a simmer

I viewed the sun, as it cast upon me-
Enchanted songs of silence
This mornings eastly sunburst sun
Born of myth and science
Its regular show left my thoughts sundered
Split between presence and absence
I separate from the rigorous routine
Mind sets sail for nonsense

Familiar are the colours of Autumn
Pressed into my conscious
Imprinted are stains of orange and brown
My sun sets in the east like Venus

Here is my second entry: "Upon a Scarlet Sky"...

- Upon a Scarlet Sky -

Upon the canvas of the heavens I did gaze.
Watching the east, the autumn sky above…
And in the early hours of the morning haze,
There came to me, one I once did so love!
She was golden of hair, eyes brightly blue,
Her flowing jumpsuit white, with flowers…
Of green and pink to complement her true.
I was still enamored of her heart’s powers,
To touch me deeply with but one glance…
And so I called to her, forgetting her name.
Centuries it had been since our romance…
But my heart was drawn, a moth to flame!
“Call me Aurora”, she said with such grace,
And I bade her to hold me as once of old.
As I stood spellbound by her angelic face,
The great women spoke, with voice bold:
“I have ascended, and have such little time,
So one single kiss: will have to convey all.”
She kissed me, in the dawn most sublime,
As a scarlet like fire, upon the sky did fall.
I understood so much and I was weeping,
When she vanished from my side at last…
But some loves are not for mortal keeping!
Some memories belong to the distant past.
