Poetry Contest

Write a poem about watching on helplessly as someone continuously gets hurt.
The subject of your poem can be someone you know or a complete stranger, but you, as the poet, must be the observer. You can become anyone you want in this competition to facilitate your story, but the poem must be written from the poet's/observer's perspective.

Hope you enjoy this one. Good Luck :D

~She let herself fall~

With tears in her eyes I watched her
Her hair blew in the wind silently
Below her was the whole town driving distracted
Her sleeves rolled up to expose her cuts
All drawn in deep enough for a scar
I saw her as she took another step closer to the edge
She looked up in the sky
While below I stood helplessly hoping she wouldn't die
I couldn't help her
I just watched her make all her mistakes again
She has too many problems
And couldn't find where she belonged
She was rejected from everyone's help and love
She was lost in the side where she was pushed and shoved
Each day I Watched her cry and die a little more
I watched her see the sky's with out any hope
She kept to herself and decided to not let anyone in
And now there she stood in the cold winter air
On top of a the roof
Her tears slowly falling down
Never touching the ground
I wanted to help her find what she never found
But I just watched her take another step further from the wall
She closed her eyes and let herself fall

I'm watching you drown,
in this hateful cruel world.
I'm hearing you cry,
but I know not what to say.
I see those cuts,
and I know not what they are.
I'm way to small,
way to young,
unknowing, naive.
I'm watching you grown,
older than me,
taller than me.
I can't do a thing.
As you drown in you.
In self loathing or hate,
pity or fear.
I can not tell,
for I am to small,
to little.
I know I love you,
that's all I know,
I know we share blood,
and I know you pick on me.
I know you get angry,
and I know I like your laugh,
your voice is amazing,
and you're my sister.
I know that.
So why do I sit here,
a child who knows nothing,
who can't help you.
Why wont you look at me,
and show me those scars I already see.
You're drowning and I watch.
To weak to help.
If my foolish love can't save you,

What can?

The Screaming

Screams no long human
ripped from her throat
Howls of unbearable pain
as he cuts and cuts
I watch
silently
against a pillar, tied tight
eyes tapped open to see
her slowly being sliced
from head to toe
blood flows copiously
I watch silently
this girl who used to be
so young and pretty
I just watch
and wait
for my turn, you see
she is next to me

The madman looks at me
Smiles and approaches
I scream too

He Still Watches T.V On The Couch

The old man still looks tougher than life,
even if there are a few more dents
in his "don´t mak´em like they used to" armor.
I told him to be careful
while the cancer creeped up his soft underbelly
and attacked me from my unseen side.

There was no reason to talk about it
on the ride to the airport.

One phone call, 15 minutes before it was time
trumped 23 days of "everthing is going to be o.k".
Now, I treat those hugs like precious stones
because the last one is so anti-climatic.

Who am I?
What are we?
Screaming like idiots,
after all that chest pumping
has morphed into feeble yelps.
Pretending to turn over the hour glass
with black coffee in the mornings,
bottles of Jack Daniels over stories
that have been told too many times already,
and waking up with chiggers
from the sand castle next to the lake.
It doesn´t matter,
when life shows up with uninvited guests.
The bull only knows it will die
after it is far too late.

He gave it 62 good years
and promised to go out like a man.
Still I won´t cry,
or fly across oceans
to remember something that was supposed to happen.
Even winners lose in the end,
but the special ones hold out a little longer.

and never, just give what they´ve earned away.

My Worst Fear

She screamed again
My fears are being lived
I bang on the bullet-proof glass
Trying to get past
He was torturing her
And much much worst
NO!!!!!!!! I shout
But he just laughs at the sound
I kick and grunt from frustration
This wall won't give in
He touches her in bad places
Laughing at the look on her face
I have never felt so helpless
I can't end this
He then does the forbidden
She screams as he goes in
My heart breaks
I can't take him away
You scream
I cry out of agony
I smash at the wall
trying to answer your call
I drop to my knees
Passing out in defeat

"Daddy, no, please!"
"Oh, quit being such a little tease!"
Hearing sounds of breaking bones,
Seems to really set the tone.
"Being Daddy's little girl,
Makes the world want to hurl.
No one able to hear your scream,
is Daddy's little dream.
No one will ever believe it to be true,
I've lost one too many screws!"
"Daddy, please, stop!"
"Shut up before I give your arm a little chop!
Scream a little louder!
Make Daddy even prouder!"

"I won't kill you this time, my little baby.
But next time, just maybe."

Screamworks

from the theory
i thought she was fine
it wouldn't matter
as she's not mine

But in practice
it is a way
the screams become normal
as it happens every day

Worthless..useless piece of shit
Dad yelled stumbling drunk
Into our trailer home dump
Running past to my room
My stomach became friends with his boot
I couldn’t get up
Mumbled fuck you with a cough of blood

Awaiting the fist to my cheek
I opened my eyes only to see
My mother tossed in front of me
Shaking coming to her knees
She asked him to leave

He pushed her up against the door
Ripping off her clothes she struggled
Screaming not in front of October
As he let go she fell to her knees
Exposed in lingerie she started to weep
He kicked me again my face to his feet
Look son he began to speak
Your heroes a stupid whore

Grabbing her by her hair
He threw her across the table
Throwing glass plates
And slapping her in the face
I wanted to move try and call the police
The pain was to immense
Loosing consciousness
All I could do was throw up blood and dinner

He stuffed her face into to a pillow
Told her to suffocate
And maybe he’ll forgive her
I thought to myself
Worthless..Useless piece of shit
My eyes filled with tears
Made the spinning world blurry
As my mind gave out
And black became my house

You make your run
But still you turn
And throw the urn
Then you mourn

   NIGHTMARE ON ALM STREET

"As the pariah dog of unknown pedigree
limps down at the end of the road
and the half eaten moon emerges from
it's hiding of sailing clouds under god?'s abode
the cardboard city materializes like a photograph
slow the edges sharpen-the squalor silenced to a stupor
the heaps of waste stare at you like an open sore
the stench assaults you like a sub-urban folklore
a skeletal baby wails, his head mocking at his body
malnourished, worm-infested and diseased
with a protruding ribcage-like an intricate tapestry
of dark brown skin over hollowed bones
and the mother stares in darkness and soft grudge
her eyes averting your gaze of pity
as a warm drop of tear runs down the cheeks
getting up she pulls the rug cover down with alacrity
unmindful you walk along.. elated at your day's success
your next "street art exhibition" on your mind
'accolades come with a price...often an excess!' (in italics)
a lady screams in the distance as you rev your car
blaring rock music fills in as rubber screeches along tar( full stop.)"

I sat there and took it
I took the fists thrown.
I took the punches to the face.
I took the insults.
I took you and let you do this to me.
I stuck it out.
I let it fly, fly like a boomerang that comes back to bite me in the ass. I let it go and it just comes back.
When I go to leave, you simply threaten me; and I, being the safe self I am, come back.
I come back like a trained dog who answers to one person and one person only. The one who owns him.
Well, guess what; you don't 'own me.' Not anymore.
You slit your wrists and blame it all on me. You say it's all my fault you've done this to yourself.
You tried to break me, but I'm someone who can't be broken. I hold myself firm.
A new mindset.
No, not simply a new mindset, a mind of my own
Something I've known nothing about for such a long time.
My mind was dead, I had to rebuild myself.
Now honey, it's your time to shine.
You're a lazy alcoholic who doesn't do anything.
You've turned into nothing but a stereotypical bum.
I'm going to be the grown up here and just walk away.
I'm done.
I'm stronger than ever you sad sadistic fuck.
You won't ever get me to back down.
I will stand UP.

He did it! He did!
I saw with these eyes,
swirling mud of dirty ground,
to swirling mud of dirty ground.
He did it! I know.
Seen in those eyes.
Swirling dust,
swirling dust,
watching over us.
Eyes on eyes,
they look alike.
I saw with a replicate sight.
He did it! I know.
left her there to rot.
In the open world.
I saw with his eyes.
Buried in my skin.
Buried in his face.
I know.
He betrayed her so.
Uniquely, strategically,
leaving her is silence.
He did that, I know.
Ever girl needs her daddy.
My eyes see that.
Caught his back,
familiar skin,
familiar eyes,
upon a replicate me.
She not us, she's not him.
He left her there to rot
-instead took me.
cannot protect,
her different set,
She has words so strong-
cannot defend,
what's throned already.
I know.
She must be stronger,
far by more than me.
Never did I protest,
when he took me.

Sorry I'm naive.

Should have stuck,
to sister blood.
