Poetry Contest

New Member of the Month Feature

Welcome to "New Member of the Month"!

You have 3 weeks to nominate  Your favorite poems from a NEW DUP poet - someone who has been a member for no more than six months.

To locate New Members simply click on 'Poems' > *Latest Poems > Sort Poems > New Members!

Please note the following guidelines when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. Until this comp is established, there is no limit to nominations; however, you can't nominate more than one poem per individual new member.  *****

3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

6. One win per member per calendar year ( 12 months ).

7. All nominators should notify their nominees of nominations.

8.  PLEASE DON’T NOMINATE RECENT WINNERS ( see list below )

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me. I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.

Nomination Duration is 3 weeks followed by a week of site voting!

I’ve been bad

I didn’t mean to do it, surely you can see, the blood stains on my hands are a terrifying mystery

I don’t know how they got there, the knife is on the floor, no, no, no, I wouldn’t leave if I were you, besides there’s a lock on every door

Please excuse my manners, I’m trying to improve my skills, I want you to be comfortable, are you interested in sleeping pills

You know what, don’t worry about that, let’s just get to know each other and sit and relax, let me move this bloody knife, I’ll place it with my axe

I may have been bad, I’m just not really sure, would you like some tea, please, I’d be very happy if you’d let me pour

I’ll tell you this, I made him so satisfied, I gave him everything he desired, quenched his every thirst before ultimately he retired

It’s not the first time, you know, I revived him three times in all, but the last time he was much too weak, I wish there was a doctor I could call

Oh yes my darling, you’re sleepy now, I’m sorry but I poisoned your tea, trust me when I say, these next few hours for you will be pure ecstasy

I’m removing your pants first and you can help me with your shoes, I can handle the rest, ooh you’re turned on already, this is wonderful news

Baby, lay down now it’s only a mild narcotic, don’t worry, you will remain awake but my instructions to you will soon become hypnotic

You’ll have enough energy to pleasure me, it’s what I dreamed it would be, and trust me you won’t have any desire to fight this, you’ll never think to flee

Oh no, don’t panic he’s not actually dead, I’m not a bad person, but I may have lied,
I had to practice incase there was anything you might have wanted me to provide

You’re the one I want and I did this all for you, hey, maybe you would want me for your bride, okay okay, calm down, possibly not, at least with this Halloween costume, I can’t be identified

I am also new here.

Looking On

I'm laying in bed and it's daylight now.
Thanksgiving, a week away.
Always hopeful slumber will eventually fade to dreams,
I get up. I'm tired but wide awake.

The window is slightly cracked open.
I feel the humidity in the air.
I deeply inhale the moisture smelling of decay.
The cold makes me cough.

A morning caffeine induced mania has my attention.
I'm wired, tightly held in it's seduction but loving the effect.
Later I will crash in the depths of my medical marijuana edibles.
Happy to be and happy to share.

Distracted from my thoughts, I sense no pain.
I go about my day, sitting at my keyboard typing senseless lines.
It's poetry.
I remind myself it's art, even if it makes no sense.

Music plays softly in the background.
I receive inspiration from the singers who came before me.
I love music.
I love the lyrics.

So listen when I tell you I find solace in the words I write.
They are filled with spunk, love and life.
Dare to read them if you will, maybe you will find some solace as well.
Perhaps they will calm you and keep you still, set you free.

Come walk with me through a forest of timber.
Let’s watch chipmunks gather acorns and chatter at us.
We’ll just sit and be quiet under the dark canopy.
When the time is right we’ll move along.

See how easy it is?
Look to your imagination.
Read some more words and see where they take you.
There are no borders.

On the Water

I will find you on the water
first thing in the morning
with the sky streaked red

I will find you on the water
because I could never find you on land

I will find you on the water
with all of the memories I wished I had

I will find you on the water
that’s where I will teach my daughter to look for you too

I will find you on the water
between the waves
and in the smell of salt in the air

I will find you on the water
tomorrow
today I will imagine your feet are still on land

aubrey plaza was really hot in “The Happiest Season”

and that makes me so sad. because that film
destroyed me in a way i will never recover from.
something died in me the third act of that film.
the first act was so good! everyone was so hot!! I thought
I knew what was going to happen and I was looking forward it and aubrey
plaza was gonna be Kstews christmas miracle and goddamnit you know I love
a fucking christmas miracle
but cLeA dU vAlL just had
to do a queer subversion where the lesbians
die at the end. (so much for “sub” in "subversion"). my scarce
dreams were fucking crushed i thought
“well maybe we could just watch the first half” but that’s not
how christmas movies work, is it,
because the first two acts of the film are just
the main character in abject misery
so if you skip the end theres no pay off but if
you watch to the end you wish you just stopped
stopped stopped.

Felis

You were there across the room
Standing plainly without a sound
Looking for something too
That never would be found

And suddenly you shifted
So clearly, without remorse
Into a lovely feline
Dappled coat, fur coarse

Your eyes, they glimmered before the screen
My heart began to seize
And when you turned toward me
I saw something I'd never believe

Your pointed face turned gently
Deep within those crystalline orbs
Inside your amber scleras
Tumbled minerals galore

A soft and shimmering citrine
Perhaps a tiger's eye?
A heated amethyst, amber and gold
A burnt sienna sky

It wasn't just the color
I could see the stones in your eyes
And the rocks behind your pupils
Would spell out my demise
