Have you lived inside your head
for more than a minute or an hour?
Like gold, can you sift your own ideas
about your life from the junk of public opinion;
those who judge you and tell you how to be?
Does the wall across from your pillow
sometimes feel more like a friend
than the people you call friends
and then dissolve behind your blotted tears.
When your search for your public you
requires more than a morning cup of tea
when your mojo creeps away and hides
refuses to yield the words, like rubies in a mountain
On these days you are one of the special ones,
Your isolation a conundrum to the people
who seek comfort in a crowd.
Threatened by your honesty,
afraid of your touch, your contagion,
They raise a rabble to scare away your strangeness,
To rub out the spirit in you,
because it does not imitate them,
is not made in the image of man

But you. You are free to explore your own dark sea
dwell in its fathoms until it dissipates
out of reach where you cannot touch it
Explore those ebony threads to weave your own story,
compose your own anthem
Sink into it while you can, find yourself in your sorrow
learn to love your isolation, for the chances are few.
