Poetry Contest

New Member of the Month Feature!

Welcome to "New Member of the Month"!

You have 3 weeks to nominate  Your favorite poems from a NEW DUP poet - someone who has been a member for no more than six months.

To locate New Members simply click on 'Poems' > *Latest Poems > Sort Poems > New Members!

Please note the following guidelines when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. Until this comp is established, there is no limit to nominations; however, you can't nominate more than one poem per individual new member.  *****

3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

6. One win per member per calendar year ( 12 months ).

7. All nominators should notify their nominees of nominations.

8.  PLEASE DON’T NOMINATE RECENT WINNERS ( see list below )

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me. I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.

Nomination Duration is 3 weeks followed by a week of site voting!

Take all you can.

Grab all you can.
Take it.
Such plunder!
Going, going cheap
Celebrate wildly......oh yeah
Wave your bows.
Cheer your cheers.
As lunatics take control.
With just one fatal kiss.
Such as this.
A life tripping on its past achievements.
Preoccupied or just simply pre programmed...
No democracy.
Just wings from the same bird..
A population set up.
Only to consume.
Never questioning.
Like turkeys voting for thanks giving.
We sign our own death sentence.
Grab all you can.

Rhyming Frenzy

Everything that will be
I can see
A mystery
You and me
An affigy
Currently
You will be
Endlessly
Hopelessly
In love with me
.... take a breath....

Now and then
We'll begin
Be a friend
Till the end
Lost in sin
On my skin
A chagrin
Remember when
I took a spin
In Berlin
.... another breath....

I don't know
Where to go
Down below
Let it grow
An undertow
To bestow
It's so nouveau
Don't you know
I'll forgo
Get it bro?
.... stop....

Cinderous Ghosts

I still try to see through these burnt pages
A fairytale we once read
Of how charming lies mar a virgin face
Inside this room, there is nothing
But cinders all around me

Hear the weepy knell
As the sun falls in the deepest well
The blue heaven has been laid to rest

Wish the deep could turn your blind eyes
And drown them once more in my tale
All your love is but a lie
Like a snake devouring a butterfly

Do you recall when love wrote our tale with a kiss?
Another poem of how the stars burned
But there's only one magnum opus
Created by two shared worlds
It was a masterpiece 'til you burned it all

Hear the weeping knell
While the world hides in the deepest well
The blue heaven has been laid to rest

Wish the deep could turn your blind eyes
And drown them once more in my tale
All you love is but a lie
Like a snake devouring a butterfly
If only I could change the stars
By pulling your puppet strings
And chase away cinderous ghosts
Of memories nevermore a part of you

The night's dark stare tells me what I'll always be
Nothing but forgotten relics lost in time
This eternal moment shatters my voice
As the clouds shroud my tower without beacon

If only I could change the stars
By pulling your puppet strings
And chase away cinderous ghosts
Memories forever torn apart in me

Lasting Flight

'Til trumpets in the meadows call me a song
With a sound of a muted sparrow
On a dollies web, I will promise
When the winds howl I will sing
Sweet wishes on a rainbow's mandolin
And when ice, frost on the pane
I will play poetic strings
0f the eternal side of forever
With everlasting breath
As our love blossoms into life's petals
And pollen lay dew on the golden spire
On a dollies web, I will promise
Sweet wishes on a rainbow's mandolin
With kisses dripping from a honeycomb
Like a kite with lasting flight

Hi Chords! Thank you for nominating this fantastic piece by adagio! Unfortunately, this particular comp thread is for the nomination of new members. Please delete your submission and feel free to carry it over to the Poem of the Month comp, which is also a really fantastic way to nominate any DU members poetry that you are moved by!! Thanks!

I guess I'm just dumb.lol. I clicked on edit, deleted it, then all it says is modify. I clicked that and it bounces back. Is there anyway you can remove it for me?

Lucifer's Marionette

How can I possibly find the way
that leads me back
to love
to life,
when I can't even find
a trail that takes me off this road
of utter darkness?
Despair
is so thick, it suffocates all hope.
Not one sliver of light
pierces
the canopy of my desolate forest.

I still hear your voice.
It calls to me like siren song.
Unquestioned,
my heart obeys it's seductive command,
Blindly,
I'm running headlong into
the Abyss.

I trip over
the skeletons of my past,
I fall into
pits that were dug by my own hands.
The demons I've collected
over the years like gemstones,
assail me with
claw
and tooth
and tail.
Dragons crawl fourth from the recesses of
my fractured soul.
Their firery breath leaves me
scorched
to the bone by grief.

I find myself alone,
scaling jagged canyon walls
and descending on hands and knees
the steep muddy banks
of raging rivers,
finding with my groping desperate hands,
the still smoldering piles of ash
of the bridges
I once enthusiastically
used my only torch to burn.

Hysterically laughing now,
I curse the irony of
my self imposed fate.
I turn aimlessly around
and continue on into the black wasteland.

I'm bruised and bleeding
Broken
in both body and mind.
But like a marionette
with Lucifer pulling the strings,
I  gleefully dance
and skip and twirl,
down the path of
total destruction.
