Refuge For Me

fear hiding behind my smile
for at least half a century
it reveals no sadness or sorrow

self image taunted by humiliating
words exhausting anything positive
mentally weak fighting to luv life

making useless wishes blowing out
birthday candles secretly wishing
to not celebrate another year

soft warm rain drops from above
cleansing dark secrets within me
a refuge for my tears and soul

Aftershave Kind of Day

First of May
Cleaned up
Actually shaved
Put on the sunny day charm scent
Who can resist
Renewal
A little splash of aura
Walking down the avenue
Smiling

The Sum of All

There is in you an understanding
I alone have discovered
And this not withstanding
What distances have colored

For I am not close to you
I mean, as close as I long to be
That your breathing be the breath I drew
Tinged with memories of ethreal sea

For you are neither sun nor stars
But faint moonlight luminosity
Casting frailest shadow of this love ours
That it is real and not mere curiosity

Clouds pass, shadowing the earth
Fresh plowed and longing for the rain
The wind dancing between in mirth
And all, like love, touched in its train

I need not heaven's showers
Just a silvered drop of you
A sea, a world, the sum of all, its power
That the seed of love in my heart grew

There are flowers within your eyes
The world has never seen
Deep shadowed in your heart of hearts they rise
More beautiful than all colors have ever been

I would touch them as the breeze
Caressing every one, your sun
Lost, enchanted, among the fragrant, these
The bloom of love and we as one

.......

My Father is in the rain
And bends the legitimate lines of my face into curve and artful thought
Stands behind both pragmatism
and delusion
With nudge or gentle hold

I pray I allow my hips his compass
My footfall to align with his

My insecurities
My fears
My wavering doubts
Plucked and given freely to open palm

The artistry in those lines
The enormity in that hand that spreads eternity into the un fathomable

I breathe there

I smile
And I breathe there

The Color of Someday

It is the color of clothes aghast,
of veiled mothers with frozen mouths
thumping chests with eyes to deaf sky.

A mile away, the angry jew waves
his hand with the flourish of humph,
and children on a beach vanish

Here bullets shred, a father carries
the body of his child in a bag
normally for frozen tenderloin

How many springs of this color still
lie quiet? It blooms, from fathers to sons
to many, the color of reckoning.

Between Love and Apathy

you came as you were
then left as you are,
between here nor there
both nearby and far

the in’s and the out’s
of just and unfair,
between you and I
both covered and bare

time and last chances
from cage-locked to flown,
between truth and lies
both stunted and grown

held and rejected
released while yet bound,
between lack and want
both misplaced and found

I came as I was
I’m here as I am
between starved and fed
both lion and lamb
