Poetry Contest

Tell tale me your name

Names, given names, birth names, calling names.
The ones that we have been given or the one that we choose ourselves.
To give you an example, I have birth names which are my official names and a calling name.  which is Rianne, coming from Rhiannon. and MercRianna and old name for Mercury. This name is not part of my official name but its the name people closest to me know me by and this name I have cherished all my life and go by. Amongst others it means sea, witch, great queen and is connected to Ra sungod.
I see this name as mine and feel dedicated to it as I happen to be a person who feels great connection to all the above so my parents could not have given me a better name than Rianne.

So, write me a poem, a text, poetry, prose or short story.
Fiction, non fiction, whatever style except for no extreme content
no  explicit erotica, only mild or sensual erotica is allowed

Tell me about your name, its origin
perhaps there are divinities, gods, goddesses, days, planets, traditions attached to the name. You do not have to give me a real name you go by, might be a nickname, writers name, a name you have adapted, adopted or what so ever. Your poem or text however does have to qualify as one with a certain amount of depth, wit, humor, irony are all welcomed.
So what Im looking for is a personification of your name or one you have chosen, use, or go by

ONE poem per poet
maximum 300 lines
please title your work
one month

happy writing

greetings
R

On gifting names

There is
something
powerful
about gifting
names

whether
they're silly,
have hidden
meanings or
change an
identity.

I've been
gifted many
by people held
close to my
soul

but—

as I hear
ethan being
echoed out
loud

sliding warm
off tongues
in their silken
pronunciation,

my mind
rolls towards
the entire
center

without
feeling a
venemous
injection

stutters
crumbling at
the corners
of mouths,

no death
permanently
heaving from
a throat.

My Unusual Name

My name is Pittinix
I have the most unusual name
The meaning of my name is unorthodox

It's really not a popular name
My name originated with me
I'm not looking for recognition or fame

Others may not accept the meaning of my name,
But it doesn't matter what people say
The important thing is what my name means to me

Beloved (david)

Born
from lowly stock
tend ewe's and lambs.
To lead
forge ahead
a country formed
from living seeds.
Come Philistines
Hebrews all,
biblical, seal
scribed
on Sanskrit
scrolls.
Head the coin,
great statues
to admire,
the care to rule
before great Popes.
Raised a nations
hopes,
Cast the die to frame
David, trumpets herald
and proclaim,
Chosen  line
 the given name.
To shepherd
goodness,
gird up its loins
and stride forth.
Chance destiny
to form my ark.
Was I
just one
of a kind?
what etching
I will leave behind?
With fame to skirt.
A nomenclature
commoner than dirt.
leave death's shroud to reveal my work,
my worth,

Keith of the Willows

The dreaming hand
that fate comes to shake
is the moment when Keith
should wake, but today
his name naps beneath
warm dappled sunlight,
softly his mind opens,

High above the trees,
birds circle in a figure of eight,
he feels the forest shifting
his weight, he watches as his
fingers start to grow into branches
reaching out to connect, to war
with the darkness of ancient woods,
he wants to scream
as his flesh crack open into bark.

Then a sudden calm;

Beneath the battlefield
he feels the sunlight
converting into food,
the rush of nutrients
from the forest floor
He stands tall, rising
high above the canopy
a new creature being born
and beyond compare,
breathing oxygen into the air,
at one with his true self.

"I am Keith" he bellows
to the listening sky
and the forest carries
him in every echo.
If you listen closely,
the leaves will still tell you
his name.

THE NEEDS I HAVE

THE NEEDS I HAVE…
I HAVE A NEED TO BE TOUCHED…
BY HANDS THAT WANT ME AND LIPS THAT YEARN TO TASTE EVERY BREATH I RELEASE…
I HAVE A NEED TO BE SEEN…
MY MIND MY BODY MY SOUL … PASSION NEVER DECREASED!
I HAVE A NEED FOR YOUR FLESH…
ONE THRUST AND MY INSIDES ARE BLESSED…
I HAVE A NEED TO HEAR YOUR VOICE…
WHEN YOU MOAN AND GROAN AND NOT BY CHOICE…
BUT BY THE WONDER OF MY INSIDES PULLING, YOU DEEPER AND DEEPER…
GRASPING TIGHTER AND TIGHTER…
I HAVE A NEED TO FEEL YOUR WARMTH AS YOU RELEASE ALL YOUR GOLD…
DEEP WITHIN MY TINY FOLD!
I HAVE A NEED
I HAVE A NEED
PLEASE ME PLEASE!

SLYMBEKQUEEN (KAJILLIANAIRE), I did not see any relevance to the given topic in your entry. Somehow I feel this entry only serves itself as in it being a kind of  exposure. I will therefore have to ask you to write another poem for this competition thread

What’s In A Name? Glad You Asked.

Had I the option of selection,
This four syllable monstrosity-
would’ve been a single
diphthong!

Having no choice in the matter,
there is no point in lamentation.

Astonishingly only my family
poked fun at rhyming my
name with a venereal disease.

Fear not!
For I am not damaged
by the unmerciful teasing at the
hands of my wretched siblings.

When they weren’t looking I took
gleeful delight in hiding their toys,
or tossing them out.

Growing into my name I felt it
my duty and obligation to atone
for my impulsive thoughtlessness.

Taking on the responsibility of this
moniker with so much meaning-
I felt it necessary to come clean.

My name,
as a girl’s name-
of Latin derivation,
had
swathed
and
defined
me
a

Elisha

No, I'm not a prophet, and no,
it isn't pronounced that way.

I wasn't named after him, but my
hippy (non-religious) parents wanted to give me
a Biblical name...
What?

(Why not Ruth, or Sarah, or Esther?)

No one pronounces it correctly, and forget
about the spelling. Whenever my irritation
at the mispronunciation is discovered, people
take hold and run with it, mostly because
they get some kick out of my dire facial expression.
(Apparently they think it's funny.)

The Urban Dictionary declares that Elisha's
“are sensitive girls, rare to find”.
Whatever that means. I mean, I am sensitive,
but I am no rarity.

“God is salvation”...that's the real meaning.
I didn't know that until this very moment.

Perhaps I need that reminder from time to time.
