Queens Donít Swing
Gotta say, it saddens me,
How we walk by one another,
But wonít speak,
Will give a body scan though,
Pause & look each other from head to toe,
Assuming the position of some kind of enemy,
Treating each other like a foe.
All of that, I try not to feed,
Because honestly, thereís really no need,
Iím never here to compete...
Thatís not possible because weíre all unique:
Ainít no one like you...
& ainít no one like me.
Like Ms. Scott tried to tell us,
Queens Donít Swing,
So you can fix your face,
Ainít no need to frown at me.
Ainít no need to try and be big,
Knowing damn well we all going through our own shit...
Knowing how hard it already is?
And weíre giving each other our asses to kiss.
Why donít we share this energy with these men?
Why they always get a pass?
Why we always so quick to dismiss each other?
But will fight for a toxic relationship to last?
Why canít we give each other a compliment?
Be sincere ...
Really mean it
Why does there always have to be shade hiding somewhere underneath it?
Knowing all the shit we face,
Iíd rather not make everything a race,
Iíd rather be at my own steady pace,
And watch you make it too, at the very end of the day.
Queens Donít Swing...
We need to shelve all the hostility,
All the jealously...
None of us really need.
Ainít it just tiring?
Ainít it easier to do your own thing?
Rather than watching another woman,
With a heart full of hate?
Rather than step on each otherís toes,
And fuck each other over,
Rather than pass by one another,
Giving off the cold shoulder.
Iím here to say... I wanna see you win,
Not here to shit in your parade,
Woman to woman,
Iím rooting for you & pray you keep finding your way.
