Bedtime Stories

He’d curl her close and hold her tight
and let the words dance in the air.
The dragons soared and knights did fight,
he’d curl her close and hold her tight.
She’d gasp and laugh, her mind take flight,
he’d breathe new worlds for his lady fair.
He’d curl her close and hold her tight
and let the words dance in the air.

His whiskered face would brush her cheek
as steadfast hands tucked her in snug,
his warm brown eyes her blues would seek,
his whiskered face would brush her cheek.
Before those words of love did speak
he’d ask for one more final hug.
His whiskered face would brush her cheek
as steadfast hands tucked her in snug.

“Guess what!” He’d smile and whisper near
and then she’d grin and close her eyes
“I love you!” on the air appeared.
(Guess what he’d smile and whisper near.)
The two would say the words with cheer
like each had won a special prize.
“Guess what!” He’d smile and whisper near
and then she’d grin and close her eyes.

I wasn't happy with my entry, so I edited it a little and tightened up the syllable count, as I found it a bit bumpy when reading. I hope it's okay to alter it after entered.

The Pause

Heaven paused and held its breath,
the Warrior stood to draw his bow
and sighted on the certain death ;
Heaven paused and held its breath.
The arrow sails, the foe's bereft--
for what they've reaped, is what they've sown.
Heaven paused and held its breath,
the Warrior stood to draw his bow.

O' hearken now, these words of woe,
the prophets' words upon the land;
the Red Sea swallowed Pharoah, whole,
O' hearken now , these words of woe.
The passage 'twixt the waves did show
a narrow road upon dry sand--
O' hearken now, these words of woe,
the prophets' words upon the land .

Heaven paused, the time is nigh,
the Warrior felled the Prince of Air.
Glory to the God most high,
the passage 'twixt the waves was dry,
the Promised Land, beholden, fair.
Heaven paused, the time is nigh,
the Warrior felled the Prince of Air.

White Noise

He fed my bones with humble bread
and brought me back to life once more
don’t howl about a thing, he said
he fed my bones with humble bread
then dressed the wounds that I had bled
in scarlet threads across the floor
he fed my bones with humble bread
and brought me back to life once more.

For sorrow’s child lived in my eyes
he recognised my shaking palms
just raise those blues t’ward the skies
for sorrow’s child lived in my eyes
and through the murder of his sighs
I rested in his gentle arms
for sorrow’s child lived in my eyes
he recognised my shaking palms.

An absent plot is where you lay
the stars are ghostly dim tonight
as all around me fades to grey
an absent plot is where you lay
and as your breath, it fades away
the darkness crushes out the light
an absent plot is where you lay
the stars are ghostly dim tonight.

Deep Underground

I've insane rage inside it kills
O comfort me my Mother dear
Its wills will me to do self ills
I've insane rage inside it kills

O mother mine please hold me still
gently gentle me free from fear
I've insane rage inside it kills
O comfort me my Mother dear.

This rage will will me underground
Dear gentle me with Mother love
down on Earth I am so hell bound
this rage will will me underground,

I might reach peace deep underground
I'm teetering, just one shove,
this rage will will me underground
Dear gentle me with mother love.

I called you came you comfort me
tho' rage still wills me underground
you gentled me to let it be
I called you came you comfort me,

those future years I feared you see
I wasn't shoved I just jumped down
you called I came you comfort me
together now, deep underground.

Poetic agony

Her poetic voice must be heard
fallen tears now stain her pages
concerned with not that which she slurs
her poetic voice must be heard
she does not care she takes her turn
she tries to hide her written rages
her poetic voice must be heard
fallen tears now stain her pages

And so she must defend her name
for many came to hear her rhyme
she took her place an claimed her fame
and so she must defend her name
she will not fail tis’ not a game
her hand is steady just this time
and so she must defend her name
for many came to hear her rhyme

The curtain calls come to an end
they will remember why she came
her need to write she wont pretend
the curtain calls come to an end
penned poetry has been her friend
her victory she must reclaim
the curtain calls come to and end
they will remember why she came

One's Love Is Another's Lie

Can I capture her essence in a phrase?
When words are a poor substitute for love
In her arms is how I spend my days
Can I capture her essence in a phrase?
Surely romance is more than just a phase
Every moment is a gift descending from above
Can I capture her essence in a phrase?
When words are a poor substitute for love

I've yet to master the art of sustaining the fire
Meaning lost for methods of a fabricated verse
My heart beats in broken utterances of desire
I've yet to master the art of sustaining the fire
She is a dream come true, I am a dream made liar
Strange harmonies sung when love and death purse
I've yet to master the art of sustaining the fire
Meaning lost for methods of a fabricated verse

My heart is a developing photograph taken and exposed
She is the light through a split second aperture bleeding through
I am ruined for the one I wed beside my intentions proposed
My heart is a developing photograph taken and exposed
Investigate, interrogate me, case open and undisclosed
I exist as a mystery of divided wills natures opposed in view
My heart is a developing photograph taken and exposed
She is the light through a split second aperture bleeding through

Between thoughts, memories, interrupted by another reason to regret
What began a serenade ends with a war inside of me
There are things I've seen that I wish I could forget
Between thoughts, memories, interrupted by another reason to regret
Is it self-afflicted trauma or her love that reminds me I am not dead yet?
Whether pain or joy proves heaven or hell, what fate is my bride to be
Between thoughts, memories, interrupted by another reason to regret
What began a serenade ends with a war inside of me

She's been caught in the crossfire since we got involved
Forgiveness is my only hope to dignify my vow and plea
Dilute my sins in the blood as they dissolve
She's been caught in the crossfire since we got involved
Formulate the means to write the equation for resolve
Redemption drafts the blueprints for the hope of a better me
She's been caught in the crossfire since we got involved
Forgiveness is my only hope to dignify my vow and plea

Commitment is not a flawless endeavor but a lesson in the words "I love you"
Ever learning we are for a lifetime entwined unto the end
Integrity my recourse to begin again and every day renew
Commitment is not a flawless endeavor but a lesson in the words "I love you"
When love is not a matter of what we say but what we do
I pray my ways preserve the beauty of my Godsend
Commitment is not a flawless endeavor but a lesson in the words "I love you"
Ever learning we are for a lifetime entwined unto the end...

Red, Blue and White

When red symbolizes passion, anger, danger and fire
Blue signifies cool, wisdom, stability and serenity
One glows hot like war and desire
When red symbolizes passion, anger, danger and fire
It can cause chaos to confuse and conspire
Losing the purpose of identity and integrity
When red symbolizes passion, anger, danger and fire
Blue signifies cool, wisdom, stability and serenity

In the struggle to maintain a true and fair democracy
Some secretly connive to achieve more power
They spread lies to establish an autocracy
In the struggle to maintain a true and fair democracy
They spread a venom throughout the bureaucracy
Hoping that the masses will grovel and cower
In the struggle to maintain a true and fair democracy
Some secretly connive to get more power

In the search for healing, decency, unity and peace
The truth will come out and shine a light
Though some will not quit or won’t cease
In the search for healing, decency, unity and peace
For some their hatred becomes a disease
They’ll fight and not see the flag also has white
In the search for healing, decency, unity and peace
The truth will come out and shine a light

This was a tough one to judge and really the winner and two runners-up were as good as each other, so I went with javalini just because his entry gave me a chuckle. And I could relate to it as someone who hates deadlines

Thanks for all your entries tho, it's been a pleasure reading through them.
