Poetry Contest

Hello.. I’ve been asked by Layla to take over and host the monthly P.O.M competition where we nominate outstanding poems found on DU. I encourage you to encourage and show support to other writers here who show outstanding work, by nominating and voting
It's time for our "Poem of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Poem of the Month Hall of Fame' and on the official Facebook page.
You have THREE weeks to nominate no more than THREE of your favorite poems from another DUP poet!

Please note the following when making nominations:

NOTE: The Spoken Word of the Month comp is here:
https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/forum/competitions/read/11384/
Because the vote for this com is anonymous, and spoken word pieces cannot be anonymous due to avatars and voices, we would prefer you nominate those pieces in the appropriate comp above so that voting remains fair.

NOTE: New Member ( six ( 6 ) months of less ) of the Month comp is here:

https://deepundergroundpoetry.com/forum/competitions/read/11511/

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. You may nominate only THREE poems from THREE different DU members.

3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

6. One win per member within a Calendar Year.

7. You must personally notify the member that they have been nominated.

Nomination Duration is three weeks followed by a week of site voting!

“If in letter form she had left…”

if in letter  form she had left,
in silken warp and mullberry weft,
in mint julep's ink of fenugreek,
in glass ring stains on the table's teak.

still my  fur would bristle, would heavily seek
her catholic lungs opening  in hinged dyptych
and perhaps her milky finger would write the best
in an April nest and its whitethorn twigged desk

picking, weaving pollen into a vellum vest
a psalter in script so over dressed,
so my eye and ley should they ever wrest,
the robin's rubric red from her yearning breast.

Examination At The Womb Door (That Little Death)

Death scratches at my door,
yet I can not fathom it,
so I am better than it.
I can see it with my crow-eyes
and it is not me, but another
worming in the grass, half-blind,
but not deaf.
It hears me as I call to it:       That Death.

I scry a branch in the dim light of
outer space which damply revolves
around me and I grant it no mercy,
that little thing which stalks itself,
and cannot reach me,
cannot tell me what it is
or tries to become
but red spills and a silenced tongue.
It wills itself away,
pities itself in many ways:       That Death.

I am not stronger than it, or love,
but I can outfly its reach, its trials.
I can eat and peck at its great successes;
I am fueled by its spoils,
awakened by its cries.
I hear it stalking me in my mind
but I shall win by staying of it behind
watching the little one die.
The weak sparrow with its meager song
is nothing to me, nothing to it,
but to everything:       That little Death.

True Vulgarity

po' lonesome humans, each
on they own deserted street,
canno see each other for  nothing
nowhere no'how.

yo, pilgrim, how ye doin'?
fine fine superfine hows'bout
yself? Couldn'be better!
(could'a been best!)
&

now, no one sees the diff
erence. Still every one knows
the score. Every One knows every
one, de'spite having never met /aboard
this empty vehicle /  ( as
to
whom is it
that wee speak?   )
                                Please. Don't step
                                 on me (any) more.

                                  Just give us a ride

Star Talk

When I am thrown back to
Shades of dying
Through walking breathe Universe
In search of resurrection
To lighten the tongue softly
With Star talk
Offering scores of Gods
The ability
To shine their ego
In a constant crown
Of constellation
With extravagant names
Of ancient Kings
Fierce hunters brandishing weapons pulled and ready to pierce
And women with the intuitive smoke
Of oracles

When I am in this space
Of mist and vague illusion
And the ambient effects
Of wine
Or others that might bend my sky enough
To see beyond it
And into others

I come before a Father
God with sheepish grin
And barely covered
His arm outstretched
And finger pointed before it
To pinpoints, brightnesses
Scattered carefully
And covering the great map of the infinite

And I would wander through
The rest of my days
Thinking on his smile
And wondering why it would look that way

My Demons Won

I’ve been asking for help since spring
No one seems to hear a damn thing
Pain even in the words that I sing
Tired of the rain, getting hard to maintain
Feeling restrain can’t seem to break the chain
Look sane but in my brain... I’m insane
Fuck, maybe it’s the cocaine
Should I pour it down the drain?
Maybe shoot it in my vein? It’s all the same
Nothing to lose, nothing to gain
Took a scroll down lovers lane
A mistake I won’t make again.
Starting to think everyone around me is fake
Never give always take. Whatever...
Can’t stress the snakes, could careless
Gotta stay focused on success
Right now my life’s a fucking mess
Walk around angry and depressed
I’m stressed, pain in my chest, cardiac arrest
I’m doing my best but keep failing this test
My time I invest, screw it, I blew it, the truth
Can’t redo it, can’t say I didn’t try to pursue
Never was one to follow through
Fuck it, pop a pill, swallow it
Sit back, chill...
I’ll admit, I can’t quit, tried but couldn’t commit
So you know what... I’ll cut another up
In my nose, it goes, mixed with some blow
Pills and snow...kills the pain that flows
Feelings I tried to show, said I felt low
Asked for help, got told “No”
So I let my addiction grow...
I know, my actions cause friction
I need direction, failed at finding a connection
No affection, only found rejection
To many imperfections, wasn’t your selection
Can’t stand my own reflection
Needed some protection
I found not one to come...
So I keep getting high until I’m numb
Won’t lie, be dumb to deny
I look to the sky, close my eyes...I’m done
Inside I die, to weak to try, let out a sigh
My demons reply “we won”

Ode to everyone’s Fuckboi

I know....
It’s a dead cat
In the middle of the room.

You never lied
Never tried
To poison my heart with
Useless emotion

You told me once
“.....I do not reciprocate
............your feelings, dear”

My inconsolable love for you.

Your words were
Stone
Heavy and hard
And I took them in
And I made myself
Understand

But how...
Did you
Still smolder
With feeling?
I saw it in your eyes
Once or twice
And in
The way you
Gripped my body,

Look-
I see it. I do.
It’s in the middle of the room....
The dead cat
Who’s eyes won’t open
And who’s mouth is forever
Sealed.

SPARED

my disease was loneliness
bubbling up from
a chasm tucked under the ribs

a skeletal soul

repugnant

draped across the wire
as though waiting for redemption

still, the angels
did their best for me

   circling my boat

keeping me anchored

praying the gods to blow their storms
           to distant places
where harder faces bore their wrath,
fought the good fight
and took their losses

mike and phillip
luke and lisa
all broken by circumstance
ruined or dead
and me left here
to wonder

Craving

I crave you
Like i would my next breath
A breath i give
In our deepest kiss

In the fury of your love
Lies a mischievous soul
Behind those eyes of fire
The most beautiful heart

Into sins forbidden
Already taken
But desire burns bolder
You enthral my senses

Agonising need
Torrents me
This flaming lust
Is out of my control

Your beauty is more than meets the eye
Its much deeper
Like this burning
The want of you dominates

Whatever i see
Or imagine
Is you exposed
Curves that whisper, hold me

I claim those lips
Each breath
Gazing deeply into blue eyes
Taking every kiss
