Slayer - Seasons In the Abyss

War Ensemble

countries embrace killing
body count matters
ignorance rampant
everything that divides
feeding eternal hypocrisy

Blood Red

ignorant oppression
we subject ourselves
to substandard lies
wanting a level
beyond reach

Spirt In Black

lusting reality afar
not meant to be
picking the scar
unable to see
the serpents bite

Expendable Youth

drafted to war
wanting to contribute
fighting for government
chosen pawns
victims of circumstance

Dead Skin Mask

dressing human dolls
in natural poses
longing for love
i had to create
my own family

Hallowed Point

sniper rifle pointed
at peaceful men
silence their dreams
hatred of skin
ignorance forever reigns

Skeletons Of Society

children feel condemned
darkness shrouds
absolute existence
eternal the silence
forever reluctant

Temptation

question everything
play the game
knowing it’s rigged
walking towards
being kicked

Born Of Fire

tyrant of fear
wanting hope
but it’s death
to have sympathy
i want my grave

Seasons In The Abyss

insanity leads violence
nothing left
when love is lost
lusting death
becoming a virus

Hemispheres

I. Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres
Once through the black hole we’ll get lost in space
We’ll come to a place where eternal gods dwell
We witness the battle between heart and mind
And until the immortals hear our silent cry
We can converse with them to find balance

II. Circumstances
Disillusioned with what life has been so far?
Find the strength to go out experience it all
Find the confidence within yourself
Take chances regardless of circumstances
Otherwise, time and life will laugh at you

III. The Trees
Be careful what you wish for
Regardless of what our point of view may be
Because although we may not all be equal
Sometimes consequences can turn unexpectedly
May be then all our beliefs may change…

IV. La Villa Strangiato
Each movement, a ride, a bizarre dream
A stream of consciousness like you’ve never heard
But the scene is strange enough to be enticed
Entranced by the sheer musical virtuosity
And most likely this will never be seen ever again

Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere

Go-Go Gadget Gospel

Take me to the Church of Funk
Rap in Rhapsody
Bless with Style
Extol virtue with vim
Make that Soul sing and dance.

Crazy

We all could be crazy
Living in this crazy world
The complexity is maddening
Where only the mad succeed
Maybe we should all be mad.

St. Elsewhere

This Man is an island
named St. Elsewhere
and maybe it is paradise
destined for a deserted desert island
but a little company would be nice.

Gone Daddy Gone

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
but that is all behind
as the love is gone
looks aren't everything
only time tells true beauty.

Smiley Faces

What put that wonderful smile on your face?
Can you tell me
as it can all be hard,
yet I find it easy when you smile
and the world smiles with you.

The Boogie Monster

Something horrible is here
a dreadful creature of the night
what could this monster be,
why the monster: is me
and beauty will soothe the savage beast in the sheets.

Feng Shui

Short and simple
Auspices of Architecture
Attention to detail
Structured Style
Flowing format
to conform within Feng Shui.

Just a Thought

Thinking too much
enough to want to blow my brains out
while having to justify my existence
Trying anything and everything,
and suicide is just a thought....

Transformer

I can change form in a blink
There is more than meets the eye
What you see is not just what you get
might as well be a machine mate
Watch me do it!

Who Cares?

Basically I'm Complicated
And I could expand on that more
spouting cunning contradictions
Rambling rhetoric about reality
but at the end of the day: who cares?

On Line

I'm close to the edge
though I make it look easy
yet the smile is only skin deep
and I'm more than friendly enough
but nobody crosses that line.

Necromancer

I bet you're dying to meet me,
that's good because life sucks
and death lasts longer
enough for some fun,
Even so, maybe living is not that bad now that I'm sad.

Storm Coming

No art can herald it
and you will feel the force,
you can try to weather me
yet I am the inevitability of nature
For I am the Storm Coming.

The Last Time

Dance however you want to be
as dance will set you free
And it takes two to Tango
so take my hand and my lead
For I am Lord of the Dance.

Strangeways Here We Come

A RUSH AND A PUSH AND THE LAND IS OURS

Wandering off earth disguised as blind beggar
On bicycle of pumpkin and bone my ghost reclines
In séance wheels a voice mute and punctured.
One day poetry will die my love.
eBay will sell souls to the lowest bidder.

I STARTED SOMETHING I COULDN’T FINISH

Hapless rogue at end of rope
The boy hung traditional rights, still unable
Uncorked forbidden fruit astride oak.
Mind garrotted in the Gulag, found
The meaning of the universe to be

DEATH OF A DISCO DANCER

Murdered dancing to Abba
Oh Voulez-Vouz, DJ pointed who?
Bolt locks doors
Turn television volume to supersonic.
They don’t hear discordant rhythm of my life.

GIRLFRIEND IN A COMA

The coffin of her personality
Wreathed a madman around her neck, ambulance
Footsteps trod on her de rigueur dress, rigour fortis silence
Death Nurse hokey-cokey to life-support gramophone.
Finally, I kiss the lipstick from her mouth.

STOP ME IF YOU THINK YOU’VE HEARD THIS ONE BEFORE

Chopped my legs at the knees
To squeeze into empty bed, shrilled
Alarm cock only woke the anaesthetised gulls.
Tear the hair shirt from my breast
Let’s rehearse the arrival of the hearse…once again.

LAST NIGHT I DREAMT THAT SOMEBODY LOVED ME

Far from
Close enough
To love.
Close enough
To feel.

UNHAPPY BIRTHDAY

You place the late in valentine
Poor and lonely exist only in your rhyme,
I like your poetry but hate your poems.
Roar into your thirties like Eva Braun to Hitler
Always going back drunk to heil him.

PAINT A VULGAR PICTURE

Let mine eyes the parting take
i-player burnt an effigy of
Million grave soaked sales.
More than a town on music map;
The city delirium growing inside of me.

DEATH AT ONE’S ELBOW

If you go down to the house today
You better take care
‘cos spurned Teddy Boys
Are having a razor picnic.
Please come down to the basement later.

I WONT SHARE YOU

Meebrug bridge lights bruised our hips
Belgian ships braid harbours into anchor,
Painted Magritte memoirs on channel tunnel clocks.
I envied the birds who fed
On the crumbs of your brioche.

The Doors- Strange Days

1. Strange Days

They follow us with their
Pulsating, acid blotched pupils
Through the haziest days
Into the dreamiest nights
Seeking strange days

2. You're Lost Little Girl

She awoke to a stripped bed
Box fan whirring
Cooling afternoon sweat against her
Last night's memories a fuzzed blur
That wouldn't return to those lost

3. Love Me Two Times

I loved you yesterday and today
I'll love you more tomorrow
I can't get enough
Of your blushing brilliance
Brightening  my beleaguered soul

4. Unhappy Girl

You danced the waltz
With the devil
And now you're paying your dues
All alone
An unhappy girl

5. Horse latitudes

When the storm struck
The sailors were in panic
They were taking on water
And had to abandon their cargo
Sadly, the horses had to go

6. Moonlight Drive

We jumped into the convertible
Driving down the beach highway
The breeze blew warmly off the sea
And the moonlight lit our way
With it's shimmering reflection

7. People Are Strange

I watched the mime dance
Pretend he was in a box
Lift invisible weights
Play tug of war with himself
And thought people are strange

8. My Eyes Have Seen You

I walked the streets
With hollow, useless eyes
Then you walked by and time stopped
My vacant eyes came alive
Because they saw you

9. I Can't See Your Face In My Mind

You disappeared to the east coast
And though we were one soul
We are no more
Now I'm lost
I can't see your face in my mind

10. When The Music's Over

Life goes on each and every day
Melodies passing the time
With each and every rhyme
But when the music's over
We've burnt out our lives

Scissor Sisters (Self Titled)

I. Laura

Two women taught me to love, just to be swept away by another man.
One too many trips to your salon has left me yearning for something bigger.
You will always be in my heart, the both of you.
Do not welcome me into yours for I have evolved into something greater.
The age of me has come to the city, I'm right where I belong.

2. Take Your Mama

I came home with some painful news, Mama.
Before I tell you, let's go for a night on the town.
Don't ask why, just keep drinking.
I didn't mean to make you cry, Mama, but this is who I am.
I'm still the boy you raised just a bit gayer.

3. Comfortably Numb

The same tune you've always known just a little different.
Don't be run away from the disco, let the disco take over your body.
Dance to the trip of the Sisters, sing to the words of Glimour and Waters.
Give yourself to your guilty pleasures.
You know you want to.

4. Mary

To my sad little peach, I will always be there for you.
No matter the continuous tears I must swim through to get to you, I will be your friend.
When I'm rich, we can have everything you've ever wanted.
Hell, I'd sell all my money to your cause if it would make you smile.
With love, your best friend.

5. Lovers in the Backseat

What a lovely day for a drive.
The sun is shining, the sky is clear, and Ms. Matrontic playing on the radio.
How frequently I check my mirror for the people behind me.
I try not to look, but they've got me in a stir.
One hand on the wheel.

6. Tits On The Radio

You can listen but you can't see in this blind night club.
Here, you can touch and be touched by anything that enters.
A hole is a hole, a nipple's a nipple, and hand is a hand.
Good times are better when you let go.
So close your eyes and open wide.

7. Filthy/Gorgeous

Welcome, young saints, to our church of filth where our God tonight is you.
We accept donations from those who answer our prayers.
Go on, beat the devil out of me, Daddy.
Fill me with your holiness.
Don't stop until your pockets are empty.

8. Music is the Victim

The morning after, a place in time to evaluate the bright ideas of the night prior.
One too many good times left me in the need of a break.
The anonymous lovers and the various types of glitter...
The rush is hard to let go, but I know I can start over.
I've faith in forgotten savior.

9. Better Luck Next Time

You're so much better than drugs.
That would be if we ever got together.
Without that glitter, I don't know how to approach you.
We're just robots programmed to fuck each other.
I release you... For now.

10. It Can't Come Quickly Enough

Spirituality, discovery, enlightenment.
I have found myself again above the clouds.
Theorizing, prophetizing, mesmerizing.
My eyes are set on the horizon.
Why can't I feel like this all the time?

11. Return To Oz

What happened to my home?
It's not as beautiful as I remember.
It's as cold and desolate as the bar stool.
Dorothy came back to find the witch came back from the dead.
Can she save the Tin Man from losing his heart?

This was sooooo hard to judge because all the entries were excellent.

TCLily takes first place. That album of Kate Bush’s is a personal favourite and I loved how all of the stanzas effortlessly flowed into each other as one continuous piece.

DiamondDave75 from one Slayer fan to another, not only is the album a masterpiece but I just love how each stanza was a particular focal point from each track. I just really appreciated this entry.

Eerie, your piece focussed on the lyrical quality of the album and this transcribed into your entry. I felt it was one of the entries that touched me the most, so happy to award the runner up here.

Thank you for all the entries. They were all worthy and magnificent! Thank you so much for them all.

Until next time 😎

-M

Having only joined Dup in July, this was the first whopper of a competition that I decided to participate in. Not only was I intimidated, I was certain that I'd never be able to finish. The thought of only (shhheeesh , yeah only)
5 lines per song didn't seem undoable, at first. Then I got started... lol.
I was chastising myself everyday at how hard it was apparently becoming for me to finish. Well, chastising meaning the creative use of self-deprecating humor...
When I finally finished, I already felt like a winner 🥇... so, that's the reason for this waaaaay to long note.
I had such an unexpected terrific time with this competition, it made me push myself to do what I thought I couldn't and I had fun at my own expense doing so.

Well Done you
&
Thank youuuuuuu!
I'll wear my emoji 'medal' for participating with super duper pride... lmao
xoxo

🏅 🏅 <——— honorary medals for kicking ass like a goodun

Honestly, never fear entering competitions on here. Everybody is equal. The trophy is just a bonus.

Plus it’s really great practice to take you out of your comfort zone. That’s my excuse after nearly ten years and I’m sticking to it 🙂
